How I Built Robby the Robot (Part 1)

Part 1 in a story that documents my experience building a full-size Robby the Robot replica and suit. Check out the other videos on my channel for more information about making specific parts like the Dome, Chest Box, and Radar "Ears"

Keep up the great work. It's going to be well worth all of the time and hard work you are putting into this and wait until people see you wearing it will make the whole project worth it.

This video was GREAT. I really appreciated all the information, especially discussion comparing your creation to how the original Robby worked. You put this video together really well. Looking forward to part two!

PS - your discussion at the end about the leg spheres and how one angles back was interesting. There is a brief scene in the Lost In Space episode War of the Robots where it looks to me as if the leg spheres are not lined up correctly on one side. It takes place when Robby (a guest in this episode) is standing in front of the Jupiter II with the Robinson family confronting him. One of the lower leg spheres is sticking WAY out toward the back in an unnatural manner. This is fixed moments later.

Thanks! Hopefully it will not be 10 years before Part 2. I am working on the head mechanisms now

@@legiontheatregroup There are a few different scenes in movies and shows where parts of Robby "slip off" or "out" of their intended positions and you can actually get a hint about how he fits together. A common place is around the ankles

My files are all on my open OneDrive link. I believe you are referring to Ian's files at ScifiProps (since he uses Patreon). I am not sure if it's the same access through all 3 levels (or will always stay that way), but I think it might be (?)

Awesome work! I'd love to build one someday, but too many other projects... I don't mean to wax negative but your volume level is very low compared to other videos.

To bad it's originally made for someone very short, so you probably can fit inside to operate it, judging by it's size and you standing beside the replica, it doesn't look like you could actually fit inside, i could be wrong but going by the comparison it doesn't seem possible. 4:50

I definitely won’t be looking out from behind the neon (like the original actor) but I do think I’ll be able to squeeze in. Time will tell…

I am not sure if that is just a Forbidden Planet reference or if you are also looking for files :) If you do want "the stuff" the links are in the video description (my own designs are on my onedrive and Ian Hugh's patreon hosts his Robby files ). You will have to source your own Rocket Bourbon.
