Building & painting tutorial - Chimera transport | Astra Militarum | Warhammer 40k

I've assmbled and cussed over models by GW, Bandai, Tamiya, and Acadamy. One common thread I must stress is dry'fitting all of your parts and reading ahead in the instructions before gluing. So many times have I been frustrated by parts glued together right away that might have been better waiting a step or two. I really like the looks of this model, even though I know that they are not popular in competetive play. I would really love to try out one of the wheeled conversion kits on the aftermarket too. The problem there is that it makes an already expensive model prohibitively so for me, as a collector and players vs. player. Thanks again for the video.

Absolutely Bo, I probably didn't stress the dry fitting enough in the video so you are wise to call it out. Im building two of these and will load up with Bullgryns with the idea being that they could rush into table quarters and also onto objectives. Between the 10 wounds on the Chimera and 12 across 4 Bullgryns that should last atleast 3 turns.

I can't wait for the battle reports then. I do think that between the rebalancing and the new codex coming soon, if 40K remains an objective holding game, vs. rank and flank, I think your strategy will work well.

My secret for quickly amassing a mechanized force: buy pre-owned chimera tanks and repaint the in your colors. If they're damaged, fix them. If they have some weird quirk to them like warping or other damage that isn't easily fixed call it battle damage and come up with a cool story for it! All 12 of my chimera chassis are eBay rescues in various stages of repair and all have nicknames. For example, one is called "Cannibal" because I had to use parts from other tanks to get it table ready. It also tends to be the first tank destroyed in any get it participates in so the name suits the model since it's constantly I'm repair lol.

that's cool James and a good way to save cash. TBH I've never really explored 2nd hand minis aside from Custodians I've bought. Could be a good way to cheaply get units you simply want to test out on the tabletop.

I saw some interesting rescue chassis tonight on ebay. Best thing about the rescue chassis is that I wouldn't feel guilty about having to buy wheel conversions and a new turret.

the smoke discharger under the front hull looks like it was just stuck on there, straight out of the box, as an afterthought. It should have been modeled with some of the most drastic weathering details. Tanks and APCs in real life get a large amount of wear and tear in that area

Damn, I was kinda hoping you would comment on the absolute braindead idea from GW on the adition of the small hatch that gets covered by the roof of the Chimera, because Here I am with my **** in hand deciding if I attatch them or not even though its just going to be covered over anyway.

Lol, yeah I know the bit your talking about. The Chimera chassis is used across several other kits including the Badilisk. That's the only kit where you actually see that small hatch...

I am about to embark on building more IG stuff so this is great. Do we have to glue to lasGuns in or can it be free to rotate?

Hi Jack, good stuff. Now I think of it, no you dont, you could have them freely rotating as there is a backing piece which holds them in place.

What are your thoughts on the ID stripes that were traditionally on IG vehicles? Cool or no?

@@GuardsmanHanan No, the tri-color stripes on the front of the sides and sometimes the turret fronts. Usually white/red/white in the official GW photos. Painted on.

Ah okay, I remember those now. I've always thought I should try free hand painting them but my free hand painting sucks!
