I don't sleep! Insomnia is my top tip for productive painting.
The colour scheme on this is very reminiscent of the Clear Sky faction from the STALKER games, with the blue fatigues and green webbing.

So it is! Must have been my subconscious kicking in. Love the STALKER games
That color scheeme is just great. Im gonna make a squad of my cadian in those colors
Thank you Henry, I appreciate the time you put into making these videos. They have really helped me grow as a hobbyist and painter.

This is great! I've got about 300 of the (now) older style Cadians painted in the classic tan/green style. I really wanted to use the new models as an opportunity to incorporate a new regiment into my army, but I've struggled with coming up with a scheme for them. This looks like exactly what I was looking for.
What took Ben a weekend would take me the best part of 12 months :)

Thank you for leaving it in the video on how your model disloged from the cork and the blue tack had to be pushed once more, because I always believed I was the only one that this happens to. Still annoying but I can rest better now. Great video!

This is incredible. Great video and the army is amazing! A weekend for that standard for that volume is outstanding work and skill. Inspirational stuff 👌

Cheers! Don't think I could do that every weekend but when the stars aline, and the teabags gather it can be done!
Great scheme, makes me wish I’d done something different with mine, I went with the traditional cadian colours

Nothing wrong with that at all! Why not add a squad in a slightly different scheme as veterans, or even add in a small amount of camo like we did with these?

If we all keep asking Henry he'll have to paint Krieg and my mission to get him an Imperila guard army will be none step closer to being realised!
In hindsight, would you change anything on the scheme now? Which of these and your Krieg scheme is quicker for you?
@cultcommissions4722
9 ай бұрын
Great questions! I think I'd try to airbrush all the fatigues to highlight and not use a brush on them at all. I chose not to for these as it as the death korps drab is the base for all the areas it made sense to use that. The Krieg are quicker for that reason and the oil wash on those is a speedy way to add definition and a bit of grime to the whole model, rather than brush highlighting to create definition
Loved Ben’s army showcase so have been looking forwards to this one. Its a painting process that just screams “I love painting” and the result really shows. Its a process that I think would be speedy as long as you really focus on painting instead of getting intermittently distracted as I imagine many of us do.

Thanks! I do love painting, and I've had a lot of time to dial in on a style and process that works for me.
this reminds me of the military fatigues in children of men. granted they have digital dpm but reminiscent of the blue and olive colour
Awesome! 👍🏻
Lovely discussion at the end there! To me, speed painting is any time you make a conscious choice to do something because of its time *efficiency* rather than doing the best work you can in the time available. Lots of things qualify, from sketching based techniques like slapchop to gimmick effects like blood splatter to even pretty advanced stuff like loaded brush blending! To me it's about the decision making process, not the technique itself, especially since as you said, everyone has different familiarity with different things; for Ben Komets, loaded brush is more speed painting than stippling is, but for me it's the opposite. I'm still too busy to properly take advantage of your patreon, but I'm nearing the point where that should change and I'm excited to see what all there is and to support you all more directly!
@cultcommissions4722

Absolutely. Speed painting is all relative to the painter and takes many forms. The patreon is packed with content and thats growing week on week, you'll have plenty to catch up on!
The blueish hue of the clothing isn't how I think I would have gone, but damn good job otherwise. this model looks fantastic! The mass of units mutes the blue a bit and also looks fantastic.
Id love to see you guys attempt Auscam

I'd love to try a few different cam patterns out. As we said though they can sometimes work too well and then the model looks crap 😂
Bricky approves this painting guide!!
I'm always impressed when such a simple, relatively quick paint scheme produces such great results. Well done!
Cracking results the blue is absolutely beautiful, worth the fiddly mix of paints imo (just about), it reminds me of the French Soldiers from Battlefield 1 (aka WW1 i guess). A high level of ahem.. 'Verisimilitude' on the soldiers that really suits the Guard. I still think the newer cadians are a bit busy and Heroic looking for cannon fodder but that's just my (Middlehammer diehard) tastes.

Agreed 3 paints as a "speed paint recipe" is a bit of a stretch but if you mix a large batch then it's the same as working with a single colour pot. We are all of a certain ...er..."vintage" here so we too appreciate the older Guard models.
Thanks so much! Really good
What a great looking model. They all look wicked. Love the vids, they inspire me to do more, try more and paint more. Cheers
stunning work! gives me ideas about starting IG again... this time without using orange and white as a colour scheme

Would Ben's approach work with the classic green armor and khaki fatigues of the Cadian 8th? If so, what colors wold you use for the first couple of steps? (Basecoat, armor layers, fatigue highlights)

@@cultcommissions4722 Yes, you are right for both versions you would need the Cadian/ Stormtrooper bodies. Cut back on the iconography and turn the lasguns into las-carbines?
They look very good! In my opinion, this isn't speedpainting though: if you are creating mixes of 2 parts of this, 1 part of this, 1 part of this other paint, then highlighting, etc, that can be "fast" vs detailing heroes, but still not fast enough for "speed" painting and not for armies. I know I wouldn't be able to go through hundreds of troopers like this. Possibly faster would be either blocking base paints, then wash; or alternatively slapchop + speedpaints/contrast. Your end result looks great, don't get me wrong -- I just wouldn't consider this speed painting.
Those new figures are so detailed that it takes me at least 3 hours to paint one of them..and its not looking aa good as your figures..how can you do it so fast☠️
There’s gotta be VMC paints that replace these colors, I’m thinking a luftwaffe color for the fatigues
@cultofpaint

almost certainly a "ready mixed" version out there.
