Building dugout survival shelter - Bushcraft log roof, sandbags | ww2 style
Ойын-сауық
I build a small dugout house in the woods with dead wood roof and sand bags filled with sand and stone, raised bushcraft bed and cooking firepit. I spend the night alone in ww2 clothing and cook rations that would have been similar to those used in ww2.

This style of shelter was often used in WW2. Soldiers needed to make cover fast with limited tools. Many didn’t even have a roof to them because there wouldn’t have been enough time. If it rained, they got wet, that was just the way it was. I added a small roof to mine. Halfway through the video you will see I am wearing real WW2 trench coat, helmet and belt. I wanted to experience what it would have been like for soldiers to make these, and it was not easy. My aim isn't to be "historically accurate". But more to experience what it may have been like to build one of these, whilst wearing and using some of the items that would have been worn back then. Hope you enjoy the video and you can watch more videos like this here: kzread.info/head/PLxnadpeGdTxCjzM8ijvkW02wly3O7YUl4

The way I see it, ignore any complaints of “historical accuracy “ that overlook the clarity and lack of sepia tone of your Digital video camera. I have an idea for a future project if you are interested. When I was very young our scout group was camping and met a veteran of the First World War whose entire cooking and eating equipment was three large soup ladles and simple Jack knife

Your helmet looks more WW1 to me. Or was that what the Brit's wore in WW2? Great job - that's a lot of quick digging!

one time me and a couple friends dug a hole over the course of two weeks and slept in it, it was probably 4 feet deep 6 feet long and 4 feet wide, the most fun I've ever had. we were 13-14 at the time.
My Father was in WW11 GERMANY. He was born in 1922. 17 years old when he had to go to war. He lived in dugouts. E was the only one to come HOME from his town. My mom lived a lot in subways in Berlin, GERMANY. They were married 60 year's and 2 months divert happy and peaceful together. My mom lived 96 years. Dad 85 years. Ich lieb dish. InLove you mm and dad. DANKE. THANK YOU. Your only daughter.

My father was also in WWII, only he served in one of the Pacific Theaters, Japanese Prisoner for 1 year and 11 months. He was born in 1913;and passed away in 2004. Still miss him every day.
My Uncle (one of the band of brothers) fought in WWII, during the Siege of Bastogne in December 1944 between American and German forces at the Belgian town of Bastogne, as part of the larger Battle of the Bulge. He tells (told) the stories of this battle, having to build this type of shelter, where he fought from. The weather was brutal. This shelter, along with excellent marksman skills and true grit, saved his life and the life of others. Thank you for this great video. Thankfully you didn't dig into large boulders and tree roots. 🌳
Great work. Nice to see period bushcraft like that, which is basically was after all. Just with the massive added threat of death from the enemy.

Thanks! It's just experimental mixed with some re-enactment to be honest. It was hard work and trying to constantly film and change angles sucked. But couldn't imagine doing this whilst living in a constant state of fear from the enemy.

Now, that looked exceptionally cold and lonely. But thanks for the demonstration of these valuable survival tactics.
Great video. My dad was in the Army Air Corps in WWll. My Uncle Johnny was prisoner in a German POW camp. Loved the bit of history in this video. Love you and your dad. Glad I came across y'all on fb.

10 out of 10 for using the trenching tool, must have been hard work. But the old school rucksack and spam cooked in a set of mess tins, that is a piece of scout camping nostalgia.
Now that was awesome, great video dude. All you where missing was a fighting buddy and a bottle of scotch. LoL. Keep your head down and your gear up brother. Seaya in the next one.

This was an amazing supercut. Thanks for putting it together. A great way to look back on this being built
I normally am enthralled by your videos. This one is oddly.... Spooky. I think because we all have family that either went through WWI or WWII or some other campaigns, and know full well this is probably all the protection these men had. Then had to abandon them, hurry up to the next position, and start all over again. At this time of year, it makes you truly appreciate what those men fought, suffered and sacrificed for. Great video!
Full props for this one history can be learned from. You know how much hard work it took you to do.Imagine this in sheets of freezing rain, artillery fire and bullets whining everywhere those poor brave souls.Very well done iv just subbed awesome content.Syay safe and well.Tony
I'd never want to see another sandbag in my life if I had to do that...Great video

So many ghosts. RIP all who did this when it mattered so much to us all. Wonderful work.
My friends and I are about to build our own and a trench using this video thanks!
Love your videos man! You have inspired me to make a lot of my own bush craft shelters! I have also lured many survival skills from your videos.
The difference between an observation post or a listening post or a fighting hole. Remember the grenade sump. I still have an entrenching tool my grandfather replaced the handle in the 1970s. I did a lot of digging in clay back then and joined the army in the meantime. A hell of a lot of work for just one night, but you learn to dig as your life may depend on it. Laziness can kill you.
Nice fade to B&W at the end, great touch...!
I love the salute to the veterans. Always an inspiration in the videos you come up with. If we don't pass on the knowledge of our history in many ways we're doomed to repeat. But, in this case you never know when this knowledge may just help someone. Great video keep up the good work. 👍
Not to detract from the enjoyment and authenticity of the video but while watching it, I had this comical vision of somebody meandering through the woodlands, seeing you dressed like that, sitting at your shelter, and them, rather than realising that you are in the flesh, here and now, mistaking you for a ghost then running off screaming in terror. 😂🤣😂🤣
Now you realize just how crappy it was to be a soldier. Cold, wet, crappy food and my favorite, no sleep to be had during those battles yet men still survived and came home. War really is Hell.

Thanks for sharing my friend 🇮🇩
If you want to make it more period correct no open fire and dig a small alcove inside the shelter to cook on and boil water Great effort great videos
Immediate random ww1 trench flashbacks have filled my mind. Not that it should even be possible.
I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must have been for both sides to live in dugouts during both wars...
Thanks for the BoB vibes! Happy new year :D
I wanna do this but I'm 6-05, 400lbs so mine would have to be a little bigger lol. Great video and you brought out the SPAM, Heck Yeah!!
Super interesting..thank you for that video
Such a brilliant build and interesting watching. ❤
Shelters like this we have in the Kosovo war 1998-1999. Best regards from Serbia.
Great video, you and your dad are really good and honest people.
mesmerizing
Another excellent video
Nice shelter. You can't beat being underground for insulation in the winter and the coolness during the summer. It would not be fun in it if rainwater pooled inside, but your bedding should be high enough to keep you out of the puddle. And the roof would keep a lot of the water from getting in.
Wow, very nice. I would love to build one of those to survive but with deer, bear, mountain lion, raccoon, possum and other creatures with a little good weight to them, I would have to do it a bit differently. Deer will walk on and jump atop everything. They are extremely heavy and would literally cause a cave-in or breakage. Still, it was fun to see WWII in action. Thanks much.
Was watching the original series of videos about this project the other day. It’s quite good.

Have spent many a time digging living spaces. An added concept while digging any trench is the ground must look as though undisturbed in the direction of the enemy. Overall goods job!
