You made a tiny saxon house. Some day, people will realize that big houses and lil houses are the same. Great job woth this though. Would continuing the trench out of the shelter with a downgrade help keep it drained?

Normally I abhor these in ads, but I have to admit this was the best, most fun reveal I've seen done. Really clever.
I was SO HAPPY to see that someone this season is finally making a pit house! I love those things, they're so neat!

Thats so amazing that you got a sponsor from the history channel.
Mike have you ever considered doing like a full sized underground bushcraft shelter build I mean it would probably be a heck of a lot of work but would probably be interesting.
That was really awesome seeing History Channel sponsor the video! Maybe YOU should be on Alone, Mike...
1st I got excited that you've been invited to be on "Alone". Then I thought about it and thought, "no I don't want him to suffer like that!" (I know you would make a great shelter though!)
I dont know why but your video's are so soothing to watch, I can't describe it its really calming. Keep up the good work!
Love watching Alone… great match up for sponsorship! ❤️
"The tentative phase". I've never heard someone describe fire making more succulently.
I watch KZread every night and this video keeps appearing in my recommendations, so tonight I am finally watching it.
Thanks once again for the inspiration. 🙂
Watched all the way Mike. 👍👍 Greetings from across the pond- North Carolina, USA
from my time in the norwegian army that tarp looks like a 4 man tent, with the height of a villa :P
Sweet, you essentially built an MG nest, definitely giving this a go when I’m next out on the area
Congrats on the sponsorship! I have been watching Alone since it began, great show. Now, on with the video...lol.

Absolutely love that show. Binge watch every season. Good on them for sponsoring you that's great man. Gratz
Thank you , Mike
Nice setup Andy. Thanks for teaching us your skills. 👍
This is one of my favorite shelters especially if I'm going to be camped out in one spot more than a couple of days
but when are YOU gonna be on Alone? Ive honestly been waiting.
I’m amazed of his great knowledge🤗
Liked the shelter. Enjoyed the video.
Excellent informercial, thanks.

Hello Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷😄
Mike, I've been watching your channel for years now, and in that time I have added several pieces of gear to my kit after seeing you use them here: the Pocket Bellows, a Mora Companion knife, the Husqvarna Hatchet, and the Fivejoy Shovel, among others I may not be remembering. It looks like your shovel comes out about as often as mine does, as I rarely carry it due to its weight or the nature of the trip. It's nice to see this piece of old gear make a comeback for you.

For something that has so many different components it actually impresses me every time I do use it!
I watched some of your bushcraft shelter compilation, and in comparison to your dexterity today and in the recent short knife skills, you are so much more confident and forceful in your movements, to see how your skills have developed is really cool
Great video! 💕
the first camping we did when i was little(late 1950s) we had a surplus army tent. you know. the ones that smell of the waterproofing. stinky. we had to help our mama dig a trench all the way around it. it wasnt deep enough. those tents didnt have a waterproof bottom in them. we came away the next morning SOAKED!! those poor sleeping bags were never the same! we camped at a place called zion national park, and then the grand canyon. i loved camping w/ my mom and 2 sisters. we camped for several years, every summer.

@Evelyn 21 y.o - check my vidéó aaaaaaaaaahahahaha. im glad YOU have that confidence. i am 71 almost 72. i cant lie on the ground anymore to sleep. i was proud of my mom for taking us camping like that all alone w/ 3 little kids. i mean, when i grew up and realized how it was in the 1950s and '60s, that is.
Love itttt! Gotta try this on a dry day!
Haven't went camping for a decade since my father passed away. Think it's time again.
Wow awesome💗💗
Great and inspiring as always!

Enjoyed the video. I especially enjoyed seeing you make real coffee at the end.

Congratulations!
Great shelter. And very good tips on how to stay dry in the clay ground we have in Canada. I really like how you dug trenches all the way around and had a trench for drainage inside as well. Also good explanation of the shovel for that job and all its little hidden tools. Looking forward to the next video!
Very nice! That forest floor would be a great resource for my garden! Congrat's on getting the History sponsorship. Alone is a good show and you do share the same audience so a nobrainer on History channels behalf. Hope all is well and your enjoying this wonderful life!

Top video mate new to youre channel only just found u but you are what bushcraft is all about see u on the next one
Nice video, great shelter idea!!
Speaking of thunderstorms we got run over by three bands in one day when I was training on Fort Benning, Georgia. We were relaxing when the first band came through and I was only half dressed. I ripped out my old tarp and some random lengths of 550 cord and through up a tarp for me and my gear in the nick of time. Took it down after the sun came back out. About thay time a second band rolled through and I had to do it all again.
Love that tarp Mike 👍. Great job with the shelter as usual . Nice one fella
Soil 😆 always enjoy watching even if I couldn't do it myself
I think with those shovels, with all the odds and sodds. The company that makes them is probably focusing more on the shovel itself. The blade, saw and fire steel are probably just token extras. You, as you have proven, can make them work if you have to. Great video, mate. Look forward to the next. Cheers.
A refreshing set of videos that you just can’t stop watching, ps What’s the name of the shovel
Good to see you doing a new shelter type in the woods. I am a multi-season fan of ALONE, generally speaking. The storyline is a bit skewed toward stress, strain, and starvation but the cast generally is skillful and resourceful.

You should totally do next seasons alone....you would be great!!
Great Video Mike. I am enjoying the 24 hr series. Just curious why a pit? doesn't that just invite a pool of water?
Shelter idea : a raised bed on two tripods and trash bags , like cut the bottom of trash bags and pass two logs and put it on the exterior of side of the tripods , with a tarp on top of you with a line tied on the tripods MRE : try Croatian MRE I heard they're good PS : sorry for the messed up English , its not my first language ✌
just a tip on the fire steel I find if I run my blade against the steel quickly before giving it a hard strike the previous friction will heat the steel up just enough to make the strike super effective
Looks like a great adventure. Clever idea, fun to consider but better you than me, a bit yucky for me but still impressed by the ingenuity!
They should put you onto ALONE

Crazy sunset times over there, its 5:00pm currently for winter and 9:00pm in January for summer in New Zealand!
If you pass away, you already have a grave set up👍
Great video as always Mike. Just bought one of your sit pads they look great. Hope all your family are well. How old is your daughter now? Miss seeing jacs running around. Looking forward to you next video fella
Can you Make a Video about Drawknives, what makes a good one, and how to pick one for your tool set?
the can opener works nice with the fire steel try that next time
I love sleeping outdoors but this would just feel weird for me... literally lying in a shallow grave. Cool video though!
You have crazy sunset times, in New Zealand currently winter it's 5:00pm and 9:00pm in our January summer.
This is the most elaborate grave I've ever seen.

I come from Germany and in your videos I always notice how similar German and English forests are.
The strategy is so very like other things. Like Time Team. Always looking to put in another trench. From The Dark. Peaty. The Hallow. Laid low. Your Saxon house. This one is like a Saxon mini-home.
damn i wish there were woods like that near where i am, where i am the woods are so dense and there really is no floor to the woods as every inch of it is covered in plants
