I use re-claimed metal from a giant spool, cut and weld it into a mega big spool which is suspended from the forest canopy to create an extremely unique off grid forest house. In this episode, I work on completing the outside of the ball structure including the cabin door, coverings, hatch, and work through possibilities for inside finishes and waterproofing.
In this episode we work hard on completing the inside of the big ball cabin by sealing it up from weather penetration -rain, snow, and even work on putting heating into the tiny suspended sphere cabin.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

Maybe he could start a recreational site for people to come and see homes of every size and shape and he can make a hay ride for them to get to each one by hooking up a big wagon to his tractor and fill the wagon with hay bales. He can charge so much for each person and at the end cook them hot dogs and hamburgers back on his new grill he made. Then have a fire going to make s’mores afterwards. I would come for that. Don would definitely have to be a part of it as well.

I really appreciate the ecological asides you include in your videos, especially as of the last couple episodes. Sometimes when I watch other construction or bushcraft-adjacent channels, and I see dudes cutting trees and clearing forest with reckless abandon (or even sometimes cutting native live trees on public land!), I wince a little bit. I am certainly a treehugger, but I do believe in actively-managed working forests. So it puts me at ease to hear your explanation for why and how you cut timbers and clear land for your structures-the fact you prioritize standing dead, you try to select to increase diversity, etc. I actually hadn't realized that your property was mostly a planted white pine monoculture. No doubt cutting and replacing trees with other species will be a net positive. And I am also aware that healthy forest density looks very different where you live than where I am in the Mid-Atlantic; dense forests are the norm here, with very low fire risk. Most of the thinning we need in my local hardwood forests is that of invasive shrubs, vines and groundcover, not so much trees. That might not be the case for every species here though, especially with coastal conifer forests. We don't have long leaf pine here, but I still wonder if there aren't at least a couple pyrophytic species in decline I just haven't read up on yet. So anyway, yeah, I just wanted to say that someone cares that you care. Thanks for all the construction know-how; I think I've learned a lot in the last couple years since the Forest Cube when I first subscribed.

I appreciate this. The planted pines need the most work. It's a very compartmentalized forest. Pines, Cedars, Hardwoods it's a job that is never gonna be done . It's just something you work at over time!

The circle dome window!!! Hooray! I was worried it may not be in the plans after the stucco layer was installed, but clearly it was in the plan! Too bad it’s your last one, but I have a feeling you’ll come across more (or something similar at least) in the future. Is it just me, or is this going to be more durable than half the other dwellings on the property… just the sheer amount of protective layers inside the sphere seemed to border overkill… but what am I thinking?!? it’s you! Of course it will be treated like a livable dwelling meant to be used for many years! Nice to see Frankie a lot more lately, it seemed like Bean was solo for a while on the vids. Can’t wait to see it all finished!

Of course you still want an extinguisher around jus in case. Just a tip for future endeavors. LOOKS AMAZING!!! I really wanna build a wood ball on my land now.

The next building he should build is a geo-dome. The geo-dome will show off your Trigonometry skills, construction skills, and patience. Really if he wanted a sphere that is one way to go about it, but make it like a 12v and it will be like more of a sphere than a soccer ball.
