I use re-claimed metal from a giant spool, cut and weld it into a mega big spool which is suspended from the forest canopy to create an extremely unique off grid forest house. In this episode, I work on completing the outside of the ball structure including the cabin door, coverings, hatch, and work through possibilities for inside finishes and waterproofing.
In this episode we work hard on completing the inside of the big ball cabin by sealing it up from weather penetration -rain, snow, and even work on putting heating into the tiny suspended sphere cabin.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

I've been watching your channel for a long time. The whole off grid compound is freaking awesome. This is a very interesting build. The organic layout is really cool. Looking forward to see what comes next.
Kevin…..you remind me of Walt Disney. You are creating all of these cool outdoor places. Always thinking outsider the box. You will have people wanting to come help & be a part of it.

Maybe he could start a recreational site for people to come and see homes of every size and shape and he can make a hay ride for them to get to each one by hooking up a big wagon to his tractor and fill the wagon with hay bales. He can charge so much for each person and at the end cook them hot dogs and hamburgers back on his new grill he made. Then have a fire going to make s’mores afterwards. I would come for that. Don would definitely have to be a part of it as well.

Don is so supportive and cool. He is ready to help at all times. What a great person. He deserves so many good things!! Hope he gets things he likes for Christmas!!
Love it, love it, love it! Those walls look mighty strong indeed. Just make sure the ball doesn't get loose somehow while you're inside and you go sailing off downhill; that would be a mighty painful ride with a hot stove etc. whappin' you about the head. I look forward to the next episode.
Lord Don, a man of the people. Out there toiling like a commoner 😂
One of the coolest projects so far! Keep up the great work Kevin
The round piece of steel that you cut the piece out of looks like the death star! I absolutely love this build. Thanks for keeping Don near by with the fire extinguisher. I was worried you'd catch California on fire again 🤣🤣🤣
That was an extreme amount of labor. Very impressive 👏 👌 👍
Kevin, some of us here in the northern US use your channel as a weather channel! Whatever kind of weather you are having, we know what to expect a week or so later!
Your projects never cease to amaze me. This project must have taken forever to finish, but still you go about it with a smile and a nice dry sense of humor. The ball will be great, but what an idea and what a project :)
Don is just adorable…he’s on it. You’re a crazy man! I absolutely love what you do! And Frankie and Bean are the icing on the spherical cake!
I am fully impressed! It's just a complete kzread.infoUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
I really appreciate the ecological asides you include in your videos, especially as of the last couple episodes. Sometimes when I watch other construction or bushcraft-adjacent channels, and I see dudes cutting trees and clearing forest with reckless abandon (or even sometimes cutting native live trees on public land!), I wince a little bit. I am certainly a treehugger, but I do believe in actively-managed working forests. So it puts me at ease to hear your explanation for why and how you cut timbers and clear land for your structures-the fact you prioritize standing dead, you try to select to increase diversity, etc. I actually hadn't realized that your property was mostly a planted white pine monoculture. No doubt cutting and replacing trees with other species will be a net positive. And I am also aware that healthy forest density looks very different where you live than where I am in the Mid-Atlantic; dense forests are the norm here, with very low fire risk. Most of the thinning we need in my local hardwood forests is that of invasive shrubs, vines and groundcover, not so much trees. That might not be the case for every species here though, especially with coastal conifer forests. We don't have long leaf pine here, but I still wonder if there aren't at least a couple pyrophytic species in decline I just haven't read up on yet. So anyway, yeah, I just wanted to say that someone cares that you care. Thanks for all the construction know-how; I think I've learned a lot in the last couple years since the Forest Cube when I first subscribed.
@ModernSelfReliance

I appreciate this. The planted pines need the most work. It's a very compartmentalized forest. Pines, Cedars, Hardwoods it's a job that is never gonna be done . It's just something you work at over time!
The circle dome window!!! Hooray! I was worried it may not be in the plans after the stucco layer was installed, but clearly it was in the plan! Too bad it’s your last one, but I have a feeling you’ll come across more (or something similar at least) in the future. Is it just me, or is this going to be more durable than half the other dwellings on the property… just the sheer amount of protective layers inside the sphere seemed to border overkill… but what am I thinking?!? it’s you! Of course it will be treated like a livable dwelling meant to be used for many years! Nice to see Frankie a lot more lately, it seemed like Bean was solo for a while on the vids. Can’t wait to see it all finished!
love the ball build and the different creative ways you use materials very inspiring
You and Don have done it once again……what a cool build my Canadian cousins!
I find myself checking how long I have left to watch on your vids as I’m watching cause I don’t want them to end 😅 Love it my friend, please upload more ❤✝️
I’m assuming you’ve considered the weight the interior finishes add to the structure - would you have to beef up the support? Also, I think you should do a ‘cone of silence’ next. Whatever you do next will be fun to watch. Thanks.
Hazel ☘️ … You didn’t think this through Kevin … Laird Don no longer is your helper and certainly should not be on fire duty ! I think Laird Don needs a Laird’s armchair, complete with highland deer decor … and the odd hot Scottish Whiskey served to him while he OVERSEES your further projects ! 😂 🙏☘️😘
First! 💥 👍 Needed one of your circle windows! Very cool project. Neat to see it waterproofed spray foamed! Love those little wood stoves
You found out fiberglass is not fun and smells really bad, working on a round surface has to be a challenge but you always find a way like always. I was wondering if you had any of those round windows left what better for a round house. Can’t wait to see it all done
I think this project is really cool! Keep up the good work!
This is a really cool build but it’s the strangest project and very challenging. I want to see it on Airbnb! 😁 I would sleep in that
Really taking shape
I think this is my favorite of your builds!!! Love your channel and always looking forward to joining you on the next one!!! 🙃🤗😊

“Shaving the ball down” makes me laugh every time I hear it. Can’t believe Kevin didn’t crack a smile.
U taught me that sometimes it's nvr a good time to do some projects but if u want it done u hav to just do it Thank u for ur motivation,it works
13:30 that lighting is awesome! Very spooky 👻
I think breath moisture will be the better issue inside the ball. How how will the air circulation work
Make it float water proof against Zack's boat house challenge. Made me think of James and the giant peach. That would take the win for sure!
It's coming along together. Keep up the great work Kevin and Don.
What a crazy endeavor! You are very resourceful and persevere in getting the job done. That hail was so random. I love that little stove, too bad I don't have any use for it. I love its miniature size and it still works. How on earth are you going to put a window in after putting up all those waterproofing layers? You definitely have your work cut out for you! (Pun intended 😂) All the best to you guys! Peace and Good Fortune and Good Health to you both and your families. Love your videos and great can-do attitude no matter what the obstacle.
Kevin, brother! Awesome video as always, thankyou, and this coming from a fellow Canadian down the 401 in London, those who know, know. Keep up the the great work, wish Chris well, as your family too. We got got ya eh!! Terry.
Glad your above ground. Yes I loved your hanging ball…😊
I have a freind who has done similar stuff. The safest way to weld or grind when you are on or next to wood is to soak the wood first. Just spray it with water, that prevents fire hazard. Of course you still want an extinguisher around jus in case. Just a tip for future endeavors. LOOKS AMAZING!!! I really wanna build a wood ball on my land now.
I can't wait to see this finished, it's such a cool design! I wonder what shape you'll do next since you've taken on the cube, circle, and triangle already. Maybe do a dodecahedron next!
Next time you want fibreglass resin, do a collab with Xyla Foxlin and “Botal Toat.”
Great video as always. Jeez you work hard.
Dang this build is a grind. I am excited to see it finished and how you furnish this one
Incredible! I don't know how you keep coming up with these ideas, please never stop!
Hey neighbor! That is the prettiest little stove I have ever seen! The brass really sets it off. I'm sorry your tools keep breaking but you are kinda rough on them. Maybe princess auto will be a sponsor in the future with how often you mention using them. I love this project. Not only is it literally outside of the box but it's organically beautiful. I imagine the inside being either crisp Scandinavian style with a hammock or something like a cabinet of curiosities where all of the work surfaces and storage areas fold down or pop out in weird ways for perfectly practical uses. I can't wait to see the next video! Say hi to everyone for me and hug those beautiful girls! ✌️💗🐖💨
You are an artist! ‘Wood chucker’ does not do you justice! More of a ‘wood sculpturer’!
Dang I just had a great idea. Would have been great to have a crane scale and weigh the ball at each step to see how much each product ads to it. Would be very interested to know the final total weight of the ball.
Great content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
just a thought is drill like a 1 inch hole in the very bottom of ball just in case it would happen to leak then put a screen over it to keep mice and other critters out
Really love this project spectacular 🇳🇿🇳🇿 cant wait to see it completed
Your dedication to this channel and these projects is amazing and highly respectable, you and Chris deserve to have 10 million subscribers by now
You said it was snow all over you on instagram! Now I see what it really was lol Jaggo! 😆
Hey Kevin I have a big challenge for you ...gather up all the fall leaves you can get n go to a boat building shop n buy a bunch of older resin n mix a gallon or so n dip the leaves in it n apply them to the outside of the ball ....
@SJC49

Lots of work and messy but I think that would look beautiful!
Give it an air vent in the top that looks like a stem and call it your cherry lol!
U can use a grinding cut off wheel to cut a circular hole no problem, Instead of using a jigsaw. cheer ball's looking pretty good.
Not sure the working specs of your acrylic stucco but I think it would be highly susceptible to cracking (especially with the swinging and flexing motion of the steel cage.
Ohh iridescent tiles on one or two upper sections would look cool
I was really hoping to see 🙈 a heating element under the flooring but oh well I love ❤️😘 it !
Whoa, the last fisheye window. Thats kinda a big deal, they have been on the show since the beginning pretty much
Thats a lot of work, but it’s gonna be worth it.I’m really enjoying watching this build can’t wait for next week.😊☮️
Good job guys!!!
Absolutely awesome as always
Amazing work! Love this!
Awesome build guys.
I'm loving sphere. Try smoothing the outside wood to be like polished effect.
What an imagination you have. Kuddos to you and Lord Don. What a hoot!
So exciting, loving this build and new tech for you
Love the Ball Cabin!
That would make it rock solid outside
Now you need to Smoot out/sand down the out side to make it as round and smooth as you can and then treat the outside with some sealant and a clear varnish to protect the wood longterm and to also make it look better.
You make the best EcoFlowDelta Videos.
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks

Those eye ball glass come from a company called Tudor Glass in South Australia. Real cool stuff. Had these exact things made a few years ago
Hello from Minnesota USA !!! Great episode!
Its so cool !!!
I had a thought on outside decoration. The FIFA world cup is about to start, and Canada is returning to it for the first time since 1986. You could paint it up to look like a soccer ball.
Nice ball bro love it 😁
With your flooring the way that it is, it gives you a chance to put in some trap door storage underneath the flooring, just an idea
Use the spider hole as a reference, please.
I love your channel enough said
Self tappers will break easily with a hammer if his sideways. Reduce the smoke etc. Captain hindsight I know 🤣🤣 thanks for another upload. I’ve been watching both channels for years. Regards from Ireland 🇮🇪
14:56 spray foam / you do listen to me LOL
Why not waterproof the outside of the sphere rather than inside?
Kevin’s floating head 😂😂😂
The next building he should build is a geo-dome. The geo-dome will show off your Trigonometry skills, construction skills, and patience. Really if he wanted a sphere that is one way to go about it, but make it like a 12v and it will be like more of a sphere than a soccer ball.
Back to the time machine!
Now you and. Kirk. The Man Both have concrete ballz lol 😳👍 you gonna devise a pulley to raise it up when your inside. Dude. Coolest project & you have a lot of them .
Two to one, one durabond two sawdust and then we used acrylic sealer. Mix well and then you have the perfect wood filler
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love you guys, with a piece of foam you can smoot your stucko after it dried a little bit.
