Building BIG BALL Cabin (It's finally DONE!)

I use re-claimed metal from a giant spool, cut and weld it into a mega big spool which is suspended from the forest canopy to create an extremely unique off grid forest house. In this episode, I work on completing the outside of the ball structure including the cabin door, coverings, hatch, and work through possibilities for inside finishes and waterproofing.
In this episode we work hard on completing the inside of the big ball cabin including the window, door, fireplace, bed and more!

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things kzread.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

You might want to consider keeping a container of Damp Rid inside the sphere when it isn't occupied. Condensation will build up inside because it is waterproof. I lived aboard a fiberglass sailboat for a few years and this was often a problem. Great build! Check out the use of gimbals, attachment points used for oil lamps and such. They're something like small "gyroscopes" that keep horizontal surfaces on an even keel when a boat is rocking. I always love how you include those extra little touches that take your cabins in the woods to the next level.

This was a really outside the box build. Being a ball is a great start, but the challenges involved, an overcome, were fun to watch. As far as the circular window is concerned, and the flashing thereof, I'm not sure why you didn't weld a ring on the outside. Being curved, and matching it exactly would be difficult, but a short ring on which to attach another material, or under the ring gasket when installed would probably sealed it up the first time. My 2 cents. Otherwise, this, like all your other wacky projects was outstanding entertainment. Good luck on the tiny boat build! I doubt anyone would really challenge you on this one, especially for the small amount of $ you invested.

Cup holders. Even gyroscopic ones, perhaps. I had thought of suggesting smoothing out the bottom and building a platform with wheels on the bottom that was curved to meet the base, but then the floor would shift relative to everything you had on the walls, and I thought that would get complicated. It might've also been hard to get the wheels to move smoothly so it could have just created a worse experience. A whole second sphere with wheels around the entire thing inside the first might have solved it, but then what about the windows and doors? Good job picking out the bedding, it definitely looks nice, and I like the rust colour of the beams. Personally, I'd gladly have my bedroom be in one of these (Attached to my house with a flexible bridge? Fully indoors?) if I was allowed. I think the rocking would be very soothing.

If it falls to the ground you may want to install a brake system of some sort. Otherwise you will be in another dimension regardless of a portal.

I was going to ask about the space under the floor and if it would be useful as storage but then you mentioned ballast. How about a water tank/bladder then you have the water and whatever is left of it can be the ballast?

For your outriggers you could use rubber (bungees) so it still swung but not as much… would also keep the door and window (or chimney) oriented in the proper direction…
