Kalle, the work you have done looks magnificent! The lighter shade of the boards makes the space seem larger and warmer. I can't wait to see how you decorate it and arrange the furniture (couch at least, ja?). You and Christine will spend some lovely and cozy nights up there together watching films. Aren't there sanders that catch the dust? Or maybe hang up plastic? That dust was everywhere 😂

This is so lovely for you to this as a surprise! I'm looking at the floor space. I know you wanted to keep the stairs open but in time you could put more floor boards across those beams [not all the way] and make more space. This would also keep more heat below and upstairs. So very, very wonderful :) 💖💖

As soon as I saw you set to work with that cordless random orbital sander I thought "Oh no, no way dude, you will be there forever!". They're just not built for that and you can burn them out by doing it. Fantastic that you had a local (ish!) place that was happy to loan you the right tool for the job though, what a great guy he is. And the floor looks fantastic, a huge difference. We have a lot of floorboards in our house too and we used Danish Oil when we moved in, but if I can face the upheaval at some point I would strip them and use something nicer. Same goes for the 200 year old elm floorboards in one of the bedrooms, but I'm not long done decorating that room and can't face emptying it out again!

When we moved in the UK a few years ago we removed all the carpet from the original wooden floors and hired a floor sander to prepare the floors for varnish. It's noisy and dusty but it is fast. I'd recommend trying to find one to let you clean up the living room floor 👍👍

Excellent work! So much labor; and the floors looks fabulous. Perhaps a little railing in the loft to provide an illusion of safety to avoid falling to the hallway below? It does not have to be tall and can be designed to fold down in order to not interfere with a video screen. Of course you will not fall, but subliminally, it is always an issue of the mind. I would guess that Feng Shui rules discourage open, 3 meter cliffs along the edge of rooms made for relaxation (A-framed roofs are also imposing yet easily can be softened with shade painting, plants and/or apex tapestries). 💐Thank you for sharing your efforts.

I think that was a hard way to do it! His poor knees!!! Wouldn't knee pads and a belt ? Sander have worked a bit better?? He is very thoughtful and kind towards her, but MAN! :/ she only cared about her stuff/books! First response is who they are:/
