Building Bandai's Death Star Attack Set

Фильм және анимация

This video follows the building and completion of the Bandai's Death Star Attack model kit. Demos in weathering and in creating simulated explosion effects are demonstrated. Note at 5:50 in the video it goes silent for a little bit because some of the background music had to be removed due to a copyright issue. Here's a link for a video that I found helpful regarding simulated scale model explosions. • Building the 1/35 Tami...

    WOW!! I love lights! It looks so realistic with these explosions. I am glad that there is some talent still left in this world. Thank you for sharing this with us. I bought the Rogue Squadron not knowing what to expect but when I saw this tiny X-wing I was thinking that I would simply resell it on evilbay, but I built it and painted it and now it is one of my favourite builds and I love the look of it! Of course I have references so that it will be a lot more accurate than most peoples' models. I took my time with it and I have to make some decals for the laser canons then I can call it done. Thank you for sharing your vision and your talent with us. It is truly inspiring.

    Turned out very well. I like your X-wing fire effect as you went with a different method and effect than I did. These are really great little kits for building dioramas with as I have a few more planned with the small AT-M6, the 1/144th AT-ST, and the small 350th scale Millennium Falcon that I have lit as well as one that I posted a while back with the tiny Imperial Star Destroyer that I lit. You can also pick up the Death Star Attack set at Hobbylinc for around $30.00, around $40.00 with shipping included. Again fantastic work on your diorama. Thanks for the shout out.

    Beautiful job! About the only thing I can fault the basic kit on is the Exhaust Port tile being from the 1/72 X-Wing originally is too big for a 1/144 set, although the turret which was originally provided with the 1/72 A-Wing is about right. So the target area is a bit bigger than two meters wide. Love what you have done with it though!

    Try adding fiber optic tubing slightly around the explosion in a "flower shape" with the cotton explosion in the center. The led will light the explosion but also the fiber optics to look like an explosion with sparks also. Try a couple samples and see which is best. Good luck

    Beautiful work there! Splendidly well done! I don't really get to assemble model kits anymore...I lack shelf space, which is largely taken up by pre-built, pre-crafted miniatures like Fantasy Flight Games ships for Star Wars X-Wing, Star Wars Armada, and Star Wars Rebellion. However, I do find that the model pieces, and sometimes the usually nicely detailed instruction sheets that come with the Bandai kits make for excellent texture sources because I like to make 3D CG models in Blender.

    @11:05 -- Artistic license! (It's fine -- it's your project/toy, enjoy your own customization. I'm not that anal and Lucasfilm wasn't either. No two models of the SAME ship were exactly alike!.) There were no Blue Squadron X-wings in the Battle of Yavin. Most of the Blue Squadron was wiped out at the Battle of Scarif. Of course, if you've read the novelization of Star Wars, the Marvel Comics adaptation, or the original script, Luke's squadron was originally called Blue Squadron before the issue of the blue screen process for the special effects reared its ugly head. Some of the surviving X-wing models from the original Star Wars showed signs of blue striping on them, too.

I agree though, it would be a good addition. Appreciate the comment, thanks.

  • @InterstellarModeler

    @InterstellarModeler

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi...it all depends on how much detail you want to add to these models. You can build them without paint, glues/adhesives. In that case I would just get a sprue cutter and nail files. If you want to do more detailing the sky's the limit but you would need something to apply paints such as spray cans....I would recommend Tamyia sprays because they emit finer mists. My recommendation, start simple, get a sprue cutter and nail files (nothing fancy). Piece it together from the box. The Snow Speeder, A Wing, X Wings or a Tie Fighter are a good start. See how it goes. If you want to start adding battle damage, scorching and such, let me know and I can advise further. Hope that helps.

    the Bandai kits are a great way to spend time with your 7yo. They're easy to build and don't require adhesives or paint for that matter. Many of us modelers will paint them up because we want more details but they are able to constructed without doing so. The often come with colored pieces and options for decals. If you can build Legos, you can build Bandai. Give it a shot, I highly recommend it. Thank you for watching

    After the paint did you apply clear coat before doing the wash?? If so which clear coat?

  • @InterstellarModeler

    @InterstellarModeler

    2 жыл бұрын

    I did. In this case I used Testors Acrylic clear coat which unfortunately isn't made any longer. A good alternative is the clear coat from Vallejo. Another option, especially if you're using enamel washes, is Premium Gloss coat from ACE Hardware. Rustoluem's is also good. The ACE product however sprays a nicer mist and does a great job. Has worked out great when using MIG AMMO washes or Tamyia Panel Accent colors. Once you're done, you can use Vallejo Matte Varnish to take away the shine. Thanks for watching.

    I've heard different stories about the tolerance of the plastics of Bandai kits to enamel. I've heard they can weaken the plastic. Does it HAVE to be an enamel?

  • @InterstellarModeler

    @InterstellarModeler

    4 жыл бұрын

    That is true. I have encountered this issue especially with the soft plastic joints they use with their figure models. I've not had any issues with their styrene so far. Doesn't have to be enamel though, there are a number of acrylic washes that can work. I just prefer the Mig Ammo products at this point. The plastic in this kit had no issues with the Mr Hobby gloss finish either which used prior to the application of the Mig Ammo products. Thanks for watching

    @@cartercook79 Each kit runs about $30+ which is another reason why I chose not to extend the set. When you combine that with the cost of buying more fighters as been suggested (i.e. tie fighters, Falcon etc), it can start to add up. I just didn't have the room nor the desire to add in more $ to this project.
