This is so impressive. We look forward to seeing her in real life. Funny fact: Sirius was displayed during the 1984 Hiswa, as he was built by my uncle, who owned Kolibri Jachtbouw at the time. Sirius is hull number 1.

The epic result, Video, confirms this in what a quarter million words never could. Having owned an Aluminum sail-built boat for more than 3 decades, you may consider not painting the topsides. I have had to repaint mine every ten years or so. SV Skoiern IV

My dad was a precision machinist, and my brothers all showed mechanical aptitude, building houses and boats, etc. This is a step into my past that I always relished: the mechanics of the thing. In a past life or two, I was at least a boat fisherman. So imagine my head spinning at the build of an "aluminium" boat! Love it! Thanks, you guys!

I love your boat! It’s beautiful, and obvious that so much thought, and experience has gone into the design of it! I’m so excited to see her finished, and and looking forward to the many adventures that will come for you two! I will own a sailboat in a few years, I just got my fist “boat”, does a kayak count? 🤣🤭 I needed to get a taste, for the enjoyment, and see how much I enjoyed it before I invested the rest of my adult life living on the water… I really got intrigued with the cruising lifestyle, and the modern use of sailboats about 2019-2020 I used to want a trawler, then became an adult and started buying fuel for a truck, and now I’m all about wind powering my boat!🤣🧐 then watching a young couple here on KZread using solar, and wind generating electricity for their boat!💡batteries, and electric drive motor for propulsion. Made it even more attractive! Of course they have a “small” 39’ Pearson…not a large Aluminum boat, not sure on the length of your boat, I will have to look back at your previous videos to get more information about it, and enjoy those episodes! Thanks for sharing your experiences and your lives with all of us! If it wasn’t for channels like yours I would not have a dream to work to! Edit: I’m now watching your previous video about how you are using hybrid electric propulsion!

General Comment. Its been a while since I started watching the new boat design and negotiation process for your new boat. It looks to be an awesome project and something to be excited about. I heard one comment about the hours to build the hull being 3 to 4 thousand hours to that point. Just thinking about the cost for those “Hull” hours @ $100 an hour would be $400,000 just to weld up the hull, Yikes! This must truly be a Million dollar Yacht. Not you average Beneteau.

Paul and Sheryl, your videos on the build process are superb and it was great to see some of the interior aluminum work, in this video. Can’t wait to see the finished, painted hull! Only negative for you is that you’re in cold and damp Holland while we’re on the warm and humid sea of Abaco! Keep the videos coming! So beautiful! It looks to me like this unique vessel getting her keel it's like a gorgeous lady that just finished putting on her "stilettos". Stunningly, she put on her heels still under her nudity. ( Oh my, oh my, this Portuguese way of looking at boats is still affecting me. Even after 43 years leaving in Canada) LOL. I can't wait to see her in full makeup, all dressed in her sails, cavalcading the waves of the North Atlantic. She for sure will match the beauty of the portuguese Creola, and the grandeur of the Nova-Scotian Bluenose, our beloved Canadian icon. Muito obrigado, for sharing.

I'm very excited to see this boat launch this summer and the new adventures you guys are going to have with it. You absolutely must sail back to the Bahamas on this new boat! Your Bahama series is my favorite group of episodes! I've watched them over and over and over! I'm also hoping you make your way back to Annapolis again. I live in the Washington DC area and always at least try to make several boating events there when I can. I'd love to get a glimpse of this one in person when it's finished.

Wow. Well, that video kicked off some serious coveting on my part. Both the boat and the job of building it. Must be incredibly fulfilling to see it come together. I think I'd be forced to buy two. One, finished, to sail. And another unpainted, with no interior, to hang on the wall as a piece of art.

Hello guy's, I've seen your other boats, the first one y'all built I'm thinking the wood one and all the Distant Shores boats they were beautiful boast. I can't wait to see this amazing boat. Paul makes sailing look so so wonderful.

That’s a good episode, and a good look at all the aluminum is shaped and reinforced. Looks like you guys are going to be doing some high latitude Sailing. I live and sail in Juneau, Alaska so I’ve been doing that type of sailing for 30 years. I’ve also been on aluminum jet boats in pretty rough seas and have seen just how much that aluminum will handle. It’s amazing material.

If your Orion 49 will have any "isolated" DC systems, the article by Nigel Calder in Professional Boat Builder magazine (#201 Feb/Mar) may be of immediate interest. ABYC standards for such systems are being revised/upgraded.

Its a beautiful boat and excellent workmanship....cant wait to see the next chapter....

The hull is 10% of the build. from experience, integral tanks are good for fuel. For grey water & black water use composite tanks, electrolysis will eat the tank tops of aluminum tanks

I am almost excited as the owners then again . A great boat build.

Hi Paul, I understand that you lead will be poured directly in the aluminum of your keel embryo. On our Boréal 47.2, the lead is insulated from the aluminium of the hull to prevent any corrosion in the keel embryo in case the hull were to be breached (we have 10mm of alu plate in the keel embryo but despite that the lead is insulated). Is there any precautions taken by KB yacht builders to avoid galvanic corrosion there please? Salutations d’Ibiza, Yan

The aluminium work is fantastically nice. Other than for antifouling why even paint her. The paint will use peel off and need replaced...
