It doesn't look like a typical self-built DIY project, this looks like it came straight out of a shipyard, built by veteran yacht builders. Insane detail and quality!

When the world seems to lose hope, these kind of people gave me hope that humanity somehow will survive. What a sheer determination it was to execute such huge task and kept the same passion for 5 years. Stay safe!

Having undertaken some vast projects of my own, it's REALLY asking a lot to add detailed artwork into the design when just getting it DONE is such a long arduous process. It's a piece of art work in my view, along with the fact it seems like a very functional design and end result. REALLY nice work.

I can’t even fathom the amount of research needed, the number of setbacks to overcome, the mental and physical exhaustion involved… Very impressive. As someone else said, there are countless disciplines involved in a project of this scale. Shows what human resolve and determination can accomplish.

tbh like any project ... start with the idea ... then a drawing ... then make plans ... the usual process for anything ...

@@0623kaboom But those are the plans. Making it is a different story when you are doing it for the first time. You have to figure it out as you go, and try not to mess up (something done out of sequence, or scrapped something.), so you don't have rework or have to back track the process. As a life long non-union machinist, manufacturing engineer and now a small business owner I can tell you tat after I get the idea, draw the prints and make the plans,------If it is your first time making it, you will find yourself "winging it", intelligently as you figure out how to make it. Just drawing the prints and sending it to china, (which was the "USA busting" decision, to mix free enterprise with communism.), is what you speak of. The reason why their neighbors laughed, (for those who did), is because they never thought of what it takes to make something. Now they are amazed, at what we sound be doing.

Apperently start by building a covered area to build it in, then pick a design and find the plans. Then just start picking away.

There's nothing much else you can say about this, but it's simply amazing.

I've been a carpenter/woodworker for over 40 years and I'd never attempt anything of that scale. Some people have a gift and you are definitely gifted. Great job, absolutely beautiful. The satisfaction of enjoying something you've created with your own hands cannot be described. Again my hat's off to the both of you.

One of my neighbors did this a few years back. Him and his brother worked on a boat for about 2 years every evening, and when they were done, they ended up selling it. Someone saw it and bought it cash for 140k, so the brother took off for a year and built two more, and now they build 4 yatchs a year and make a living off them. Went from welders/ carpenters to boat builders. Lol

My uncle was a carpenter. He used to come up to our cabin where my did was doing some woodwork. Weekends and vacation, he wouldn't touch a hammer with a ten foot pole. I've done some woodwork, and what these people did is not even possible in my mind. Wonder if the true story involved a boat builder they could consult with? I can't imagine how many times they effed up and had to throw it out and start over. Just look at that table in the cabin. And the patience...5 years...

I used to work at a boat shop. 32 foot fiberglass cabin cruisers. This guy built everything on this WOOD boat by himself. Hats off to him!

Most people probably won´t believe you build it, until given proof. Amazing work. Be proud, very proud. This is a skill and a mindset fewest people have. Congrats and good wind.

My neighbour started building a house. Only with salary (a low one) he started with one little truck with bricks. It took him 11 years. Now he got the biggest house in the neighbourhood. I swear its not only big but also looks gorgeues. Last summer he also finished the backyard which is also big. We are all so happy for him.

Man builds yacht in backyard for five years while wife pregnant and helps with construction. Incredible! Great to see your five year old on the yacht. Inspirational.

That had to be a a great feeling to finally launch and then eventually take the first sail What an accomplishment to have created such a beautiful vessel

I doubt anybody laughed at any stage of this project. Even the shelter was build very well and any other piece was just professionally constructed. There was clearly a professional background present at all times. Very tastefully done. Nice shapes.

honestly... this yacht is built better than most relationships, will probably last longer than most too!!

I can't even imagine how one decides to get into such a massive undertaking as building A FUCKING YACHT by hand! And not only that, but also have it turn out as incredible as it did. I love this! My grandfather built a friendship sloop in his backyard in the 1940s. We have photos of the whole neighborhood helping him tow it, using massive log rollers, through the streets of Brooklyn to the water. What a spectacle! Nice to see that same spirit alive today. 😊

@@tanelviil9149 I hope this comment wasn't aimed at my grandpa, who built his boat from scrapyard lumber in the 1940s, after he and his 4 siblings, all immigrants, who had to work as children in factories bc their father died at age 35 of pneumonia, left my great grandmother alone to raise them all during the great depression.

I look at a lot of sail boats on the internet. This is a beautiful boat. I love the design and the looks, especially the interior. And she's fast and man can she turn on a dime. I don't know how you did it but this is a brilliant work. The dedication and work you put into this is just overwhelming to me. You have my highest admiration and respect.

Great video. Loved how their daughter that was in the womb during the building is now dancing on deck

Love this video. My dad and I built a 12' "wing dingy" from scratch, started with the wood and in the end fiberglassed it. I haven't thought of those memories in 20 years - so thank you for more than just a cool video, thanks for bringing back the memories I had with my dad

This video nearly made me cry. As an artist and fabricator I know very well what it takes to build something this huge. Beautiful work, beautiful family, beautiful inspiration. Don’t ever lose your drive…we all need to see more people who never give up on dreams.

Congratulations to all involved in it construction, it's a beauty. You have to be very experienced in ship building to take this adventure on, especially on your own property, and I know a lot of hard work goes into building your own boat, I've seen enough videos to make that assertion. You have to have all the right tools and knowledge to design and build a boat like this.

That is some beautiful craftsmanship, would definitely fit in with any high dollar yacht crowd. With that being said, my best wishes and prayers for you and your family through this ridiculous war. I hope someday soon you can go back to smooth sailing

The "our own design" is sketchy. Expert carpentry cannot cure a flawed design. So I really hope it sailed very well. I can't imagine the time and effort needed. And keeping spirits up as well as relationships ? WOW

Since all yachts are made to order I can't say "better", but I guarantee those materials are better.

Just seeing the steps of making it makes me happy. But when I saw his success The happiness I saw was beyond words 😍

At the end when his wife is on the bow an his daughter is dancing an hes steering his boat the whole family built .....that dude was ready to explode from pure happiness an sense of accomplishment i bet . how f'en cool was this vid . some people never do shit with there life an others do .

Oh no, my dad got that award and this cant out do it, nice boat its a boat. My dad started building a boat but it turned into a plane. Edwards air-force base said it was a plane when it passed a wind tunnel test, the same test they do for new jet designs.He built the only true hydroplane that ever ran, broke world record in 1969, 208 mph in quater mile. restoration videos are one thing but you built the whole damn thing from scratch! MAD props (no pun intended lol)

My Father's best friend built his own Yacht and sailed it from Toronto Canada to Poland and back. His name was Marian Karchut. I think he made it in Guiness world records. The yacht was named Adam.

This is easily one of the coolest things ive seen on YT. The amount of effort and perseverance and know how is incredible. Great job. That little girl at the end of the video dancing on the edge of the boat without a life vest was making me nervous though lol.

I'm blown away! The number of things to consider and the number of skills required to pull this off boggles the mind. And you not only built a working yacht, it is also a piece of art with so many customized details and decals. Absolutely breathtaking and an example of what can be achieved with competence, perseverance and the knowlege shared by people before us.

And a fair bit of money, You can't be poor and build a fine yacht like that even when you do most of the work yourself. Selling it must have hurt though!

I would of laughed at the idea but would of wished you luck. This was a huge project but you and your family had the determination to make it happen. Great job

You don't have to be crazy to start a project like this. But it helps immensely

Can't believe this was built in a backyard. What an accomplishment! It sails beautifully.

Dosnt matter where you do the work as long as the tooling and knowledge is available. You can tell the guy is a master wood worker or boat builder. The guys no amateur.

@@wilsonrawlin8547 I think that's because it appears to have a shallow draft for a monohull of that size. I'm guessing they designed it with lakes/calm waters in mind.

@@mattgraham4340 Agree, really not a bluewater boat, look closely at standing rigging, plus mast seems a little small. But the craftmanship is OUTSTANDING !!!

Family friends of ours built a 60ft concrete yacht in their back yard, it took them probably 10 years. Finished it just in time for retirement, sold everything they owned and took off in their yacht to travel the world. Absolute legends. It’s awesome seeing people achieve their dream no matter how long or how much hard work it takes. Fantastic work you should be super proud!

I don't know anything about sailing but what I do know is that I am seriously happy for these people and their accomplishment... Congrats on the yacht and the Baby may they both have a great life

I lost count on how many different skill sets this couple would need to have to pull this off. (Woodworking, Solid modeling, metal working, electrical, boat design, sailing, etc..) That's crazy, and job well done!

Congratulations! In the 70's My father built a Samson ferro cement 48 foot schooner. These project are a lifetime if work. Intense! Wow god job guys!❤

This is incredible. I think too often some take for granted the amount of work, time, and talent that goes into making things, almost like they magically appear out of the end of a machine. My grandfather and father did the same thing in our yard in Banff when I was young. The boat was named Galatea, which is now the name of my business. Great memories, awesome work guys!

Fun fact : "Galatea" is a mythological character whose name means "she who is milk-white". It is based on the Greek root γᾰ́λᾰ (gála, “milk”), which also gave the word "galaxy", which is... the name of the boat built on the video. Fun fact n°2 : the word "galaxy" actually comes from γαλαξίας (galaxías, “milky”). In Greek mythology, the trickster god Hermes suckled the infant Heracles at the breast of Hera, the queen of the gods, while she was asleep. When Hera awoke, she tore Heracles away from her breast and splattered her breast milk across the heavens, forming the white strip of stars that was called the "Milky Way" during thousands of years. Later we discovered that all the stars visible with bare eyes were within the same group of stars, and that there were countless of such groups of stars very far from our. We then used the term "Milky way" to name our own group of stars and we used the root "galaxias" to name these groups of billions of stars.

The woodwork is amazing. The interior details on the table, counter and all is fantastic. Excellent work. Probably was heartbreaking to sell but no doubt the new owner is happy. And you probably made a decent return on it 😁

The Farewell in the American Navy is "Fair Winds and Following Seas" it denotes a goodbye, to the garage where it was built. You should be so so proud of what you have accomplished. Absolutely be proud of what you have built, amazing and beautiful workmanship. Stunned and in awe of your skill!
