building a UAV with PU FOAM moulding \ engineering a UAV week 8

in this week we are going to try to mould PU foam to build out UAV out of. this UAV will be used in a UAV swarm. the PU foam could be a lightweight and strong material to make the drone out of. we are going to find out: is PU foam strong? can PU foam be used for a drone? Can PU foam be mould? can a 3d printer make a mould for PU foam? can we use PLA as a PU foam mould? and much more questions!

If you have issues molding the foam an alternative could be using a CNC hot wire cutter to cut blocks of solid foam

PU is basically a glue, the mould release is absolutely required. You will also need to add a draft angle in order to get a part out of a solid mould. Alternative is to first make a silicone mould which is easier to remove. For your printer that looks like under extension caused by a cooked PTFE tube in the hotend. Chances are the end of the tube inside the general where it contacts the nozzle has been over heated and now it's pinching the filament preventing smooth and consistent under extrusion because the extruder can't push it through the blockage... that's what the clicking is.

Why don't you use an off the shelf flight controller to start with? A Speedybee F405 Wing would do the job along with iNav or Ardupilot.

You could just 3d print the whole plane. Check out eclipson.

Wouldn't it be heavy tho? if it'd indeed be built with only a single electric motor, The motor would need to be ridiculously powerful. Also, it'd probably take more time and be more expensive. Edit: Don't want to hate tho.

@@duckindustries526 surprisingly no! Especially if you use light weight PLA it will be pretty light but still very strong if built correctly. And much easier to make than casting foam even if it needs a bit more power

Hey, have you heard about the story of TGV? Basically, france wanted fast trains, but they realized that many similar trains failed just because of the public. So when they were making the TGV, they hired a guy who made the entire sleek, modern (for its time) design, colours, interior and stuff. Would you like somebody like that? Because I know a lot about paint, colours, contrast and stuff. I also get good technical ideas (sometimes) And I'd love to be a part of your team.

I was thinking, and also, I could clarify sketches from ur team for the vid, focus on paints, coating that doesn't break in air, in water, upon landing on a branch. I have lots of free time. I know I'm not even close to a NASA intern.
