Building a Survival Cabin with Chimney-Fireplace & Wooden Roof in the Wilderness
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The building took about 30 days to complete. The design of the cabin was based on visual observations. Such survival shelters were considered amateurish and improvised, built in a hurry from scrap materials.
Some of my tools:
Axe: Vintage handmade carpenter's axe
Knife: HK2 Bushcraft BPS Knives
Hand saw: DniproM 400mm
Shovel: Vintage MPL-50

Fabulous little cabin, but the way you did the chimney is amazing! Blends so well into the entire build and the the sand as a ‘heatsink’ isn’t something that many would think of. My respect to you for that.

Kudos to you, sir! You not only made a cabin that is true to its predecessors, but is also aesthetically pleasing. You made sure to keep the mud smooth, and kept the logs of a similar size, but you did all of that using hand tools like our forefathers did. Thank you for a very pleasing build and video.

Mostly made with hand tools... notice how all the perfect to length and really difficult notches just happened off screen and then 'poofed' into frame... if you really want too appreciate things done the old school way, watch Primitive Survival, the only real non hack

@@astonmoore6126he made a Lincoln log cabin, it's a square. No "complex" notches were ever made once in this video. But yeah they guys who pour concrete in the forest with excavator tracks around their completely legit builds are totally the real deal.

@sethhall9614 you clearly haven't watched primitive survival nor did you pay attention in this video.... but yeah, share that 2cent brain fart please
Where in the crap do you find logs straighter than milled lumber? There is no way you could build that in Georgia or Arkansas. It would look like a pretzel.

Historically, most of these winter quarters used the issued canvas shelter halves for a roof, simply tacked overtop the simple framework shown here in the beginning. :) great work!!! Love to see winter quarters being represented

Best example of a bushcraft chimney I've seen excellent 👍
This was incredible, loved watching it from start to finish.
Hello my friend, you flashed me again with this wonderful construction! The way the chimney you built here I have never seen before. It is so massive with all the stones and sand inside, it should store and save the heat for a long time. also the sealing between all the logs and the following clay-cover will keep it cosy inside. From my point of view you should rename your channel. This is not bushcraft "improvisation" any more. This is PERFECTION! Again I learned a lot. Thank you for this, stay healty and keep going!

Great Cabin!! Excellent Work!!
What more does a man need than a dry place to rest his head and have a meal. I loved this. Best fireplace. Love the simplicity of the build, well shown. Does the fireplace/chimney store and radiate heat? Did you get any leaks from the roof and window?
@Bushcraftimprovisation

Thank you for the great feedback! The cabin roof is waterproof, but there was a lot of warmth loss. An additional layer of plastic could have corrected this, as the stone chimney really accumulates heat.

A very beautiful and cozy wooden house..
You sir are an excellent craftsman. I’ve always said if I was in a survival type situation, I would have a chance making it with a hatchet. I’ve read accounts of pioneers having this type of chimney. Sometimes everyone would have to run outside and push the chimney over due to it being on fire. Some families would design release mechanisms or build in hooks to hook to a horse to pull it away. I do think it if I had been constructing this I would have harvested more moss and covered the bunk. Very interesting, thanks for publishing your great work. Cheers!

Great video and great concept for a small short term stay shelter that didnt require a lot of nailing. Downside is it makes it a short lived shelter over time. The two things that stand out to me if it were actually meant for medium to long term sheltering would be the wall support and the flooring not being nailed into place to make a stable shelter base. The walls are pretty much kept in place by roping twine and eight pieces of small diameter timber pounded into the ground. That instantly begins the rotting process on the timbers used for wall and frame support because they are going to be exposed to constant moisture from rain and snow fall. That over time will rot them to the point they loose structural stability and the walls will just collapse. For a short term stay while hunting and fishing locally its actually a great build that required a lot less labor to create. And it was well insulated. The chimney was a nice addition and a great combination of timber use with rock and mud mortar.

❤❤❤ love the way you built the chimney ❤❤❤
It was fascinating watching you form the knotches and fit the cabin together. No doubt there was a lot more work in cutting the trees and delimbing and debarking them but anyone could do that part. The fireplace was especially interesting. I don't know that fireplaces were done that way historically but it makes good sense. My grandfather was born in a somewhat larger version of your cabin and he talked about "leaving the latch string out" which meant although the door was closed and latched people could come in from the outside if they wanted to by pulling the string that was threaded out through a small hole in the door. Rather than a sliding latch, the latch lifted to open and the string was threaded through a small hole outside so that you could lift the latch by pulling the string. If you were turning in for the night, you pulled the latch string in and then no one outside could open the door.

Drizzling rain and a crackling fire would put me straight to sleep!😊 Very nice and cozy and well made. I suppose back in the day, wild grapevine would be used as rope for tying?
Man, I love ASMR videos like this, but yours is truly exceptional! Video editing was superb, and length was not too long but not annoyingly short. Love the use of bank line and nails. The attention spent on the fire place/chimney was excellent. The cabin itself is quaint in the best way possible. I especially enjoyed the mix of both moss and dry grass/hay plus the clay usage for insulation and sealing. And the door locking system? **Chef's Kiss** You my friend are a true artist, and I take much inspiration from you. Please...keep being amazing!
