Build your own planishing hammer from scratch!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I need a planishing hammer to shape metal. In this video I build one from scratch. With the exception of some pipe fittings, I used material and off cuts that I already had in the shop.

What a beautiful machine! I like it when utubers show their mistakes, rather than trying to make it look like their perfect.

Nobody is perfect, so it's just fakery 😅
I've seen those built from pipe in all shapes and sizes but your foot pedal is on a whole new level of badass, that's pure genius, I love it,, awesome job on that whole thing and now I've gotta have one

😎👍🇺🇲 Truer words never spoken. "No matter how big your shop is. It's never big enough." I try to keep stuff mobile so I can shove it outside when I'm working on something. Cheers brother 👊🍺
I appreciate how you occasionally pretend to make mistakes so those of us who do mess up occasionally ourselves don't feel too bad about it and just fix whatever we did. Very nice looking tool, now I need one.😉

Oh it's not pretend brother! No fakery here, it's for real. Everybody makes mistakes occasionally. 🙂

@ratrodsafrica I realize that, like it because you don't edit out things we all do from time to time. It's more enjoyable that way, to me anyway, because it's more real.👍
Second time I have watched it completely.
I love your sense of humor and that you show us your mistakes.

At 5 minutes 19 seconds, my old buddy patrick must of been fabricating for you😅😅😅😅😅😅
They crazy thing about the current world is that i could buy an entire planishing hammer with all the trimmings for LESS money than i’d have to pay for a local machinist to make JUST one or two of those dies you got made. What a beautiful thing you built. But that is just par for your course! Thanks as always for letting us hang out and watch. Can’t waIt to watch you using it!! 😊👍👍

No man, can't be! A cheap planishing hammer goes for around $250 -300, the better ones $1000 upwards. What kind of rates are they charging? I'm sure you'd be able to buy a set of dies online in your part of the world
@aceadman
9 ай бұрын
@@ratrodsafrica cheap hammer with three dies is about $220. To get three dies made from scratch could easily be more in NY USA. A machine shop here would likely charge a rate that would make your head explode. Mine head explodes here all the time! 😊😆. Unless it comes from China, nobody here can afford ANYTHING! 🤮
@ratrodsafrica
9 ай бұрын
@aceadman wow! Excluding the cost of the material, I paid ZAR 450, about $25 for the machining of 5 dies

been watching you for a while and love the content, I owned a bodyshop restoring classic british cars for 30 years. I got my dad back in the U.K with a 1964 2600 Alfa Romeo spider that he wants me to fix up, most of the rear end is missing and been looking at bead rollers etc and when i saw the price of these hammers i thought of using an air chisel, you just made a great tool my friend!..... and chance of showing the angles and lengths of the steel frame work so i could copy your amazing creation 🍻👍💪

Dif, I was eagerly following on with your latest adventure as you are funny to listen to, as you abuse yourself when you make mistakes and admit when you stuff up in real time instead of editing out. That homemade foot pedal was a whole new level of genius and bush ingenuity brother, I hope KZread is paying enough to keep building more Rods. Hope you have many, many more healthy years creating in the Forest. Have a Lakka day and a very Lakka life my brother. Best wishes from Oztrailia. 👍👍👍

Freaking cool.
Nice, how about a clevis pin for the top bolt of the turnbuckle, forming a quick release for opening the throat larger if needed. Example, something has 6 inch edge around the thin material that needs planishing.
Must have been looking in my window , looks alot like the one I built
