BUILD A HOUSE IN WINTER: German Prefab homes - A Journey From Tree To House | WELT Documentary
Ойын-сауық
The modern prefabricated house construction makes it possible: foundation, walls, roof - and all that within 48 hours. Every fifth building owner nowadays opts for the simple "let's build" method. The industry is booming and produces its own four walls on an assembly line. In our documentary, reporters follow the path of the raw material from the log to the prefabricated house ready for occupancy and show the challenges that builders and planners can sometimes encounter.

The thing about this company, which you don't find here in the states, is how they consider quality as a basic rule for doing business. They take the same, or similar, wood as we use here, first remove all the knots, then laminate it together, BEFORE starting to frame. In a sense, the whole house is built with engineered wood. This is something I have tried to push for a while now. It is smart, and gives the best quality in the end. You can't straighten a crooked floor or wall after it is built, very well.
It’s amazing to see two machines do the work so handily and quickly. Basically, an entire days work by a team of men in less than one hour. Unbelievable.
When it is considered, it is a fast way to a new home, especially when it takes 6-12 months for a home to be built in Scotland. We have seen these homes built many times and people are moving in the next month. With all the wall installations pre-planned it is easy for electricians and plumbers to have their installations done very quickly. Normally these trades have first and second fixes that are weeks apart, with this method, it is days. I used to watch home design programs and one thing that was constant was budgets, they always went over. You can budget for a build but be prepared to go over by 25% max, any more and your budget was too low to start with, at least with this method you know what it will cost before you start to build. I worked on the Hackney project in the 90s which was a prefab design. Two large Portacabin units all fitted out with appliances that were transported to site and slid into a steel framework then connected with services and fitted together and it was ready to move into. Technically the exterior plaster is called Render, it is a waterproof coating that protects the interior elements from the elements.

@@jamesburke5709 remote vehicle would do you good thus an RV OR may be a trailer would work , but considering that the world population is growing something has to be done where houses can be manufactured like any other thing all you need is to have your architect and then send the plan to the manufacturer , then show them the location , in this way , without even having land you can start paying for the designs and the house all at once.

This Tree sawing machine is 😮 AWESOME
I am genuinely impressed with the science, design, engineering, technology and construction of the systems, equipment and processes that go into felling, processing and transfering the trees from forest to timber yard and through to the client prefabricated house builder. The expertise of each of the professionals involved is technically excellent. Likewise, the prefabricated house builders own systems, etc are remarkable to see. The production quality is of a huge order of magnitude over that of a traditional building site constructed home! However, I was disappointed to see the use of chipboard panels in the construction. I consider OSB, chipboard, particle board, plasterboard (sheetrock) and MDF to be garbage that has no place in quality construction. I of course recognise that manufacturers like these products for their cheapness, together with their ease and speed of use, so they incorporate them into their products.

Since the laws about fireproof building in Germany require a pretty high standard these prefab houses are very safe compared to standard US houses. As insulation, the wood itself and various other materials used, need to be very fire resistant and at the same time be as effective at their respective aim (like insulation, stability,...) as possible. For earthquakes there is a different standard for various regions depending on the risk and intensity of the earthquakes there, but making a house earthquake proof is as far as I know mostly done in the foundation of the house.
@johndewey6358
8 ай бұрын
@@panzerpack9208 Thanks. As for earthquake resistance construction factors I believe it depends on number of floors. For example I have seen pretty sophisticated systems in the foundation of high rises where in one or two story buildings they basically bolt the buildings to the foundations. I bet if we get our smartest engineers from across the globe together and ask them to come up with better building standards, processes, materials that are more affordable and sustainable, they will come up with smarter and cheaper ideas. Due to population pressures we will have to come up with better solutions if we want to lessen our negative impact on our planet and all living things that we share our world with.

How many trees are replanted annually?

Germany replants 1.5 trees per tree cut. They grow them until they are 2.5 years old then replant them in the forest. As of now they have more trees than they did 20 years ago. Also they do not take down whole sections to keep soil integrity.
This system would go well here in Aust>

Except the world is actually running out of the specific type of sand needed to make concrete/cement. Also, trees are a renewable resource as long as replanting keeps pace with the harvest. And the managed forests grow better trees and tend to not get consumed by wildfire because fuel isn’t allowed to accumulate at ground level.
