I came here just to fast forward to a point to check out the mountain view and then move on, but I actually watched the entire 2 hour long video from start to finish and I don't regret a minute of it. You guys are not only great at building houses, your in front of and behind-of camera skills are also amazing. Very entertaining to watch. I'm doing some building (sheds and barns) on my own property in my free time, but I'm not a craftsman...which I really regret. I love working wtih wood and also with concrete and the physical labor outside, especially when the weather is nice. In my next life, I'll be a craftsman and build some nice houses, with a nice crew. =)

Awesome Chemistry on this crew! Was in the field for about 10yrs outta high school as my chosen career field (Love working with my hands and the pride in work). I had the misfortune of working on some crews that were just bad attitude's all around. Thankfully I landed on a great crew like this for the majority of my career. Outstanding work boys!!

What I was not expecting like many others here is -not watching the whole two hours of this documentary second by second. I loved the way you form the teams for each job. Each one of you put something of your experiences into it and it really does standout for your work. Jamie is real sport here to have brains with tons of courage to never-say-no attitude. Real team -work (err, play) for people out here who do want to but can’t afford to. Thanks for this documentation of events. 🎉

I’ve been framing for 10 years in a completely different area in the US and it’s absolutely mind blowing how everything I just watched was identical to a day of work for me. The process, the mistakes and struggles, the visitors, the jokes, the rain and indecisiveness (which varies from employee to boss), except for the brands, materials and some strategies used this mirrored a typical work day. I also want to give the boss(es) some props for things like the scaffolding, you’d boys would shit your pants seeing the way we sometimes do things haha

This is so interesting! I live in Germany, in a wooden house as well. Not a traditional one, but a modern, timber frame construction one. However, the walls are easily three times as thick, and the floor joists are not 1x12 like in this house, but something along the lines of 4x12 (although the spacing isn't as tight), just to give one example. Seems like we like to overbuild over here, or you like saving money a little too much.

After helping design and build buildings and houses for 52 years, I am amazed you guys put raw wood supports surrounded by dirt. Even con crete is a bad idea. My suggestion is to pour a base such as a minimum 12" diameter concrete with a Simpson base plate adapter and bolt in the concrete. The Simpson base plate has an internal galvanized U-shaped plate that raises the bottom of the wood post up about 1/2 inch above the base, and helps prevent rotting. Based on your work I'm sure you know this.

My grandparents had a house like this. The BIG problem, is that the hillside slides out over the years and eventually undermines the foundations. You get these big cracks that grow wider and wider, it's quite scary to see. You really want to spend the extra money to stabilize the build site, including deep downhill pilings and terracing, if you aren't planning on just burning the place down when you are too old to live there anymore.

@@derschmeske3618 LOL Sounds like I bruised your little ego. You are really VERY insecure aren't you? It is not 100% at all that the building will move even a little bit. In fact, I think the building will be just fine for hundreds of years. Forest fires, however, are a common and even frequent natural occurrence brought on by a simple lightening strike; burning millions of acres in forests EVERY YEAR. Once they start, almost nothing can stop them. That forest will burn several times in years to come. You have the right to your opinion, just as you have a right to be a rude ass hole that you so obviously are. That is the only thing that is 100%.
