Buffalo National River | 75 Mile Canoe Trip | Woolum to Buffalo City

This past June we spent 6 days canoe camping on the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. We put-in at Woolum and our take-out was at Buffalo City. By the end the trip we had paddled 75 miles.
We used the Buffalo River Outfitters to shuttle our vehicles from the put-in to the take-out.
Filmed in June 2021 with a Panasonic G85, GoPro 7 Black, GoPro 9 Black and iPhone 11 Pro.

    Fantastic video, friend! We just finished Ponca to Buffalo City. It was incredible! I live in N. Alabama. I haven't paddled in GA yet, but looking forward to checking out some more of your videos. Dan 👍🛶

    Thank you Dan! I am sure it was incredible to paddle from Ponca to Buffalo City in one go, that sounds awesome. I can't wait to go back and paddle the first half, I only wish it was closer to GA.

    The Buffalo did not disappoint. You always have a spot on the roster when you are ready to (temporarily) trade in the golf clubs for a paddle.

    over the years living in AR I'm pretty sure I have floated every section of the buffalo, except Rush to Buffalo city. Hopefully I can put together a crew to make it happen this year.

    It's a beautiful river but if this trip as last summer you spent as much time out o the water walking your canoes over the low water shallows as you did riding in the canoes.

    Excellent video! We’re looking to do this type of trail soon on the Buffalo. What days were you on the River? I’ve heard a lot about it being busy during the summer, did you experience that at all or were your camps not near any of the weekender areas? Any other tips you can provide are greatly appreciated. We’re in the Atlanta area too 🛶

    Thank you. We paddled the lower section which tends to see fewer paddlers than the upper. We also paddled Sun-Friday which I am sure helped. We saw very few people and never had trouble finding a campsite. This may seem insignificant but the only thing I would have changed is to have enclosed water shoes instead of a sandal type shoe like a Teva. So many little rocks got stuck between the soles of our feet and sandals walking along the river. Have a great trip!

    I am new here to AR, and this is awesome. How did you know the spots to stop and those places to swim and rock jump?

  • @subproject43

    @subproject43

    Thank you Robert. Going into the trip we knew all of the basics, including our planned daily mileage goals, but we didn't know exactly where we would be camping each night. Once we hit our mileage goal for the day we would simply start looking for a great place to camp. We used the GaiaGPS app on our phones to determine mileage. There are tons of great spots along the river! All of the rock jumps were discovered as we paddled and were then carefully scouted before anyone made the leap.
