Buffalo River Canoe Trip | Ponca to Pruitt Landing

Музыка

The Buffalo National River in Arkansas flows freely for 135 miles and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Our group put in at Ponca and completed our journey at Pruitt Landing, which is a little more than a 20-mile float downriver. This is a compilation of videos I took during our time on this beautiful river in May 2022.

Great determination to continue after running into that strainer...I saw the dump coming and wondered why the canoes were seemingly aiming to pull up along side it...that is such a dangerous place...stay totally away from fallen trees where the water is "straining" through them. The video had peaceful music added later so I trust all turned out well, but some folks will never forget the force of that water pinning them against that tree. I recommend getting another experience for them in a safer setting, if their trauma will allow them to get back in a canoe...maybe try a kayak on a lake to reintroduce the joys of paddling. Blessings

Yes, that strainer quickly turned a blissful float into an eye-opening moment. Other than a dented canoe and a lost shoe, everyone walked away in good shape. It gave me a new respect for the powerful force of water, as that was my first float experience. The group I was with has canoed many times, so they weren't phased too much by that whole incident. It was a great adventure.

I was using the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera in 4K. In some of the shots on the water, I had the phone in a waterproof case. So you'll see some blurring on the edges of the frame of some clips.

Thanks! Great question. A couple people from our group dropped off the truck and trailer at our exit point (Pruitt) before we all put in at Ponca.

How long does it take to go from Ponca to Pruitt while on the river?

We spread out the trip over multiples days and made several stops along the way, so I'm not completely sure. According to the map, there are 23.8 miles between Ponca and Pruitt, so my guess would be that we floated around 8-10 hours in total.
