Budget Non-CO2 Aquascape - BBA DEFEATED!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
My budget planted tank nature aquarium aquascape. This is an update of how I defeated BBA black beard / brush algae in my low budget planted aquarium aquascape.
Let me know in the comments what aquascape you want to see next in here!
Keep on scaping!

George, what you have done here is very good for people getting into planted tanks and then becoming disillusioned when an algae outbreak happens. It shows that persistence and you can get a nice tank and not to give up. It also shows that even an expert like yourself is not immune. Thanks.

Great vid George! Congratulations on your victory! 🐠👍
Please keep this tank going! I love watching the updates!!!
Lowtech iwagumi with a carpet is probably what all new aquascapers are looking for.
You've done really well there George to get that under control in that short space of time. I'd like to see this carry on over the long term rather than something new but I'm biased. I've set up a nigh on identical tank but using air driven sponge filters so comparing them. The endlers are also a great idea.
Congrats on the 29k man! 👍🏻💪🏻
Really enjoyed this! I would love to see you do more low tech /low budget tanks. Thank you 😊

Thanks. I’ll be doing one soon 👍
Hi George once again beautiful tank. I’ve got a 60 litre planted tank with CRS and endler guppies all males that I bred. Looks stunning those endlers are always on the go, and my shrimp are still breeding keep the videos coming.
30k! Congrats bro! hope the great giveaways reach me all the way in Cali.
Really great to see how it came back from the BBA. I’d love to see how this tank develops, longer term. Ember tetras for me!
Well done george! patience is most definitely a virtue when it comes to doing a natural style tank without a big bottle of co2.

congratulations on curing the BBA!! so happy to hear that the budget tank is back to superb state BBA is really worse that can happen to any planted tank, and i used to struggle with it too
Love the tank! The different colors of shrimp are really cool to look at and watch. Great tank!

Wow! The tank is looking beautiful :) I’d love some advice on my tanks from you. Also you’re almost at 30k. Keep it up!
Man George! I didn’t think it was going to be possible!! You are a master aqua scaper hands down. Love you bro can’t wait to see this giveaway! ❤️
Looks great 👍 will be setting mine up soon. Kelp the videos coming

Visited Aqua Gardens today for the first time. What a shop! 👌🏻 Dave was very helpful setting up some hard scape for me. Skint now 😔
HEY! You beat it! That is awesome! Thank you for sticking with it and sharing your process. This will definitely help me and others in the future. I wonder if the tank was just more susceptible to BBA in the beginning while things are trying to get stabilized and plants getting used to not growing in carbon-rich waters... and now that its beat and the tank is stabilizing, if it will stay away. I know you said in the first video that you neglected this tank a bit due to being busy. It would also be cool to see if adding more plants would help the plants fend off algae as it would out-compete them. It would be cool to see an update in a month or two. Thanks George and keep on scaping! ;)
Hope you decide to keep this scape! The progress of this tank is inspirational as a budget, non-co2 tank!
This tank is a hit! Keep this baby for a year please! I'd really like to see how this grows over time. I second ur endler idea 🍻
love these updates
Looking great george 👍
I think this video series has been very popular since not everybody has the means or the interest to use CO2 and other high tech equipment. It would be interesting and helpful to see you do more "low-budget" setups. If you decide to re-scape this tank I'd be interested in seeing a scape using more branching driftwood or roots, to get that underwater root effect. Maybe make it a blackwater tank with botanicals from Tannin Aquatics.

Absolutely. I switched over to low tech starting about 4 years ago and haven't looked back. I have time for more tanks, giving me a greater variety of fish & environments and with glutaraldehyde and correct lighting I can keep most plants, lush and healthy. I love seeing low tech 'pro' set-ups.

I’ve done the high tech thing and although it produces fast results it’s a pain the ass to maintain. Low tech all the way for me these days.
Good balance of ambient light too wow
Please continue with the budget aquascape. this helps my limited funds yet enjoy the hobby.
celestial pearl danios would be awesome, the scape looks great, can't wait to see it fully grown
Great work!
Hi George. Thanks for the videos. I saw there is still a tetra hiding on the back. I guess is not easy to catch fish with so many places to hide.
Awesome! Looks great!!

Very nice! Love it.... You could add some dwarf rasbora, some danio fish or ember tetra ... all very small and would look nice in there with the cherry shrimp :)
I’d love to see you do more budget scapes with a bigger range of fish / live stock.
Low budget tanks are fun for me because I am a beginner. I just use liquid fertilizers right now in a 40Gal tank with some Gourami. There are only 4 plants in the tank right now but I'm working my way up. Just started watching your videos and I love them. Literally re watch videos for more info. Thanks George.

I'd love to see a low-tech dutch style scape!
Hi George.. I really love ur aquascaping designs.. would love to see non co2 setup in a larger tank... Say a 55g or a 75g... Since I have recently ventured into planted tanks with a 75g low tech.. hence I need some guidance.. Thank you 😊
Really good to see scapes like this with little tech, just goes to show what you can be achieved. Maybe it would be cool to see what would happen if you kept the scape but added CO2 and better lights to show just how much of a difference that would make? For fish keepers like me whove never used CO2 before, would be nice to see what adding it could achieve...
Endler's would be cool in this tank. I would love to see another low tech scape, if you are so inclined! I wouldn't have wanted to try catching the tetras in that tank. I bet that was fun!
Looks impeccable after the bleach cleaning that you did on the hardscape.
Love to see Endlers in there. I have the red bars but can't find any new stock to refresh the genes. Would love to know where you get yours from if you go that route. Brilliant how you've got that tank back in balance - looking great now.
Looks great!
Great video as always George, it would have to be celestial pearl danios for me.....
Congrats on 29k! I enjoy watching your videos, they’re so inspirational to where I’m redoing my 29gal tanks scape. Going to make it more “professional”. what happened to the green neons? It would be nice to see the scape grow in and mature a bit more.
@GeorgeFarmerStudios
6 жыл бұрын
Green neons were given to a client. There’s still one left!
Please, don't tear it! It is beautiful and I still like to follow it maturing. Endlers would be nice or some type of wild guppy. But I think they will be hard on your baby-shrimps, so that is if you can live with that. Happy for you that you beat the BBA! Thanks for your videos!
Keep it low tech George it’s a nice contrast to the usual high tech scenario. I have a little algae in my set up I’ve reduced the lighting time and upped the water changes. The fish are doing great and my shrimp are starting to bread nicely... Keep on scaping brother!

Thanks for your awesome videos, I'd love to see more low-tech tanks, maybe nano tanks under 20 litres please!
Endlers are a must perfect for that tank and a break from the norm
I love the Low Tech aspect, not the budget aspect. Being able to grow a planted, stocked tank without all of the bells and whistles seems like a bigger challenge. Thank you!!

Champion...BBA gone, well done George! It would be nice to see this grow out further and the scape mature... You missed one green neon! Did you give up the Dwarf chain loaches as well? Tiger endlers would be nice or CPDs?
Great job George. Keep it low tech and let it grow. I'm in a quandary to go low tech or high tech for a new tank, seeing your results will more than likely to go low tech.

Thanks Nik. I’ll try to get a high quality production update soon. I’m away from home for a week soon so it may have to wait until then. 👍
You could do a standard starter tank to add a bit more challenge! Most folks are not using aquasoils from the get go so how about doing a blasting sand/playsand tank with appropriate plants? You know plants that survive on liquid ferts alone. I'm currently experimenting with a 50 cm deep terraced low-light epiphyte tank with very few water changes and could use some tips myself! :) You could also teach how to make a dirted or mineralized soil tank. Soil for potted plants is pretty cheap after all.
Brilliant as always! Endlers definitely - such endearing 'busy' fish! Also please could you do another low-ish tech (perhaps liquid carbon) easy care but high impact design (not asking for much am I)!!!!!

I always wonder about substrate cleaning in heavy planted tanks. Apparently not necessary? I Like the non CO2 approach, btw. Celestial Pearl danios in this tank would be beautiful. Endlers are great tank mates with them.

Hi George, I would like to know more about Co2 and can I use one system on multiple tanks.
i would like to see you make auarium plant deficiency's in controlled tanks just small ones like one tank do fert that is missing nitrates and see whats happens another tank missing phosphate and anoth missing potassium and so on i would just like to see tthe different missing link in plant growth and what people should expect to see when they have problems
Good effort George. Do you turn lights down or reduce photo periods, and keep ferts up to compensate for no co2 on the lower plants for example?
Maybe some pencil fish, also. New ideas everytime I look at it :)
I love this tank. Both the scape and the equipment hidden in that compartment at one end. What about a nano-scape for a Betta? I think that would appeal to a lot of beginners as Betta's in a small tank are usually where a lot of people start out in the hobby. Maybe you could even make it one of those quick videos you wanted to do. 1-hour scape challenge? On the topic of shrimp. Last week I was over the moon to spot two baby cherry shrimp in my tank, as I only have two adults that survived the great Betta massacre of 2017. On Wednesday I decided to clean my canister filter, and what should have been a 20 minute job turned in to a two hour long shrimp rescue mission. I pulled 14 baby cherry shrimp out of the filter!

Aqua scaping master! New Scape please but keep it on a budget 👍put some guppies in there panda guppies
Also on the note of uv - have you considered using uv blocking films on the windows? I have a sig 600 in my kitchen which is lit from all sides in summer so I am thinking of this as a possible solution.
Let’s see it grow in a bit more! How about showing say two weeks of growth from now then adding a cheap CO2 kit to show the impact that has on the plants in the next two weeks?
Hi George....amazing work as always...😊 Could you be kind enough to share the following please: 1) the substrate level PAR of the tank? 2) temperature of the tank? As always highly appreciative of your videos....i must say i have learned a tonne...and enjoyed myself watching your lovely videos

Hi George. With all your open top tanks, do you have problems with fish jumping? ive recently lost 2 Rummnose Tetras from jumping :( but i love the open top look. Any advice? Cheers
George is it possible if you could use +TheGreenMachineLtd sound track? That would be so awesome!!
A school of around 20 - 25 boraras brigittae wud look awesome in this tank.
Do a low-tech iwagumi would be awesome!
Glass catfish....lots of !!!! 💙🐠💙
Well done! What about adding a few dwarf puffers? Or are they not compatible with the shrimps?
@GeorgeFarmerStudios

Probably will eat the shrimp !
quick question: your selfcollected rocks..does they change the waterperimeter in any way? gh ? ph?
Have you ever thought of keeping celestial pearl danios. I think they’re an amazing nano fish the males are very bright and vibrant with orange, the females are more of a grey and white spots with very little orange.
Add CO2 and go high tech to show how this scape to improves. Will be great to see the red Ludwigia grow tall.
Looks awesome man. Have you have any luck with your buce in a low tech tank changing over to a purple shade?

Nice work on the BBA George! Plants are looking lush, I'd be keen to see how they look in a months time, especially without carbon addition. What about some Serpaes or Red Phantom tetras to contrast with the darkness of the tank? For your next scape, how about a Ryuboku, wood only, with plenty buces and colourful rotala?? Looking forward to the giveaway! :D
Hi George, would like to see a scape with corbo wood. Have you used it on any of your tanks before?

Can you please use Phoenix moss in the next scape?
*Sings* Let it grow, let it grow, we want to see much more Endlers, some fresh water Bumblebee Gobies, and Habrosus Corys.
Hi George. I'm going to give this a try in my 60 liter tank that's about 38 cm tall. I'm using dual HO T5 (14w 6700k + 14w full spectrum.) do you have a recommendation on how many hours of light I should start with? I'll be doing as close to this same substrate, plants, etc as I can.
@GeorgeFarmerStudios
6 жыл бұрын
Try 8 hours 👍
I think keep it low tech and see how it grows without co2 to show how you can still grow plants at low cost

Lighting is another expensive 'scaping cost. You can ebay a 6500K LED floodlight in various wattages for less than $10 US. I'd like to see that. Great scapes. I watch Joey if I want entertainment...I come to you for serious advice. Have a great day!

LOL, I never meant that you weren't entertaining :). I loved the backstory episode. I go back even farther in the hobby...metal angle iron tanks, and incandescent bulbs. I also did a 26yr USN stint. I'm doing a 10-gallon rimless w/a floodlight. It's on hold a bit to wait on hardscape so I put some baby bristlenose in there to cycle the filter until they grow out a bit. Keep 'scaping. You're a great Ambassador for the 'scaping hobby! You made the right career move...Keith
