Aquascaping MASTERCLASS - Why details matter
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Aquascaping masterclass with German professional aquascaper Jurijs explaining why details are so important when preparing your planted tank nature aquarium aquascape for any competition.
The International Aquatic Plant Layout Contest (IAPLC) is organised by Aqua Design Amano (ADA) and is the biggest aquascaping contest in the world.
Jurijs is entering his beautiful 120cm Nature Aquarium this year and this video shows how we add some extra details to get ready for the photo shoot.
Keep on scaping
George

Stefanie Blundell I also tried carpeting a few sections of my tank with marimo moss balls, but my method was slightly different from theirs. I just recently got back into the hobby and am thinking about making more videos of my fish tank too. Come check it out and let me know what you think ☺

Looks beautiful! And love Juriji's moss balls on stones; they look great.
Love the look of this tank! It’s like a beautiful tropical island :) I wasn’t to be a fish/shrimp in that tank!!
If I have learned something today it is making the moss balls look natural in the scape. Thank you.

Nice work with the Cladophora, I'm not quite sure about the gravel but it certainly comes in handy to collect something like this here and there! Good Look in the Contest! I hope the Rescape is fully done on Sunday ;-)
Good luck for the contest. That is a great looking tank.
This is one of the best videos of high end aquascaping i have ever seen, truly inspiring. Thank you George and Jurijs. Also, the tank was pretty nice ;)

Stunning To me a beautiful aquascape like this is a living picture and rivals a beautiful painting by a top artist.George and his colleague are like two master painters of the aquascaping world, such a treat to see their work and be inspired to try on my own tanks (even though I know ill never get anywhere near to this standard) Wonderful guys and thankyou.
Lovely, as always! Best of luck with the competition 👍
Taking this scape apart sounds terrifying. But it kind of confirms my suspicion that many of the show tanks are not actually 'grown in'.
Have a great time at the show and best of luck!
Amazing work.....btw both great aquascapers in a single vid......amazing.👍👍🙋♂️
Another stunning scape and some very handy tips too Good luck for tomorrow guy's.

Very nice tip on gluing the moss balls to stones to soften the transition between areas. I've often over looked these in the LFS but it's gave me some great ideas now for their usage. Good luck with the competition.

My brother got rid of his tank recently and gave me a few of his moss balls. They don't really fit in to my planted tank layout as 'balls' but I didn't want to waste them, as my shrimp' love them. I never thought of breaking them open and wrapping them around stones.. this is a great idea! I will do that today and it should fit in to my 'scape much better. Thank you for sharing!

How does it keep long term that way? A few months?
@Mapantz1
6 жыл бұрын
I can't answer that myself. But, I should think it'll last as long as it would being in a ball shape.. as long as you keep your tank healthy with water changes and adding in your ferts/co2.

Hey George, Thanks for the video, very nice. I have a question regarding the Cladophora moss, is it a good option to use and maintain in the aquarium without spreading everywhere and covering everything? do you recommend using it? I saw a video in a another chanel and they said it covers everything, which will be fine if you want a specific aquarium for that, but not if you want it to be a controlled part of the display. Thanks

I'm in the planning stages of aquascaping my two 10 gallon Betta tanks. I have some larger stones, a nice piece of Fluval bogwood, (8" x 14"), and for the other tank I have a large green feller stone and a large flat piece of cholla wood, (7" x 13"). As well as a large amount of anubias congensis, anubias barteri, crypt lutea, red dwarf waterlilly, anacharis, hornwort, and some java moss. It will be my first go at so wish me luck! :)

Beautiful aquascape! Can anyone let me know what bucephlandra are those? I love those
Good luck to u gentlemen 👍but im not sure about the moss balls. It doesnt add a very natural tone. Perhaps some dwarf hair grass dispersed out in patches would give it a more natural gradual merge into the substrate? The rocks he added at the end gave it a fast flowing river like look which go well with moss balls. The foreground crypts go well too with that. But in that case the driftwood doesnt go well. I dunno I kinda like it but i kinda feel its missing something. Buy still rooting for u guys 😀
Awesome! Best of luck in the show! How do you get it all back together at the show? I never knew the moss balls could be used like that. Again, have a great show!

How do you clean the sand that nice? It looks replaced with new sand haha. ADA sand is beautiful but such a shame when it turns brown in no time...
What kind of rocks were you using?
George and Jurijs you both need to go to Rachel O'Leary and scape a tank for her and she could stock it. That be an awesome combo of expertise and I think we would all learn a lot

Hrm. I think the gaps between moss balls are still too obvious. It doesn't look like it has naturally grown in. I love the crypt jungle but I'm sort of neutral towards the cyperus helferi addition. It will be interesting to see how they show up in the competition tank. Still a beautiful planted tank. Certainly better than anything I can create. :)

Thanks! I'm always a bit hesitant to critique stuff like this since it's pretty much always a matter of preference. Especially in the net where you can easily get slammed for doing that! Besides I really don't want to sound like a jerk and sometimes it's hard to get the feel through text alone. Hell, I admit I'm pretty sore when it comes to people critiquing my stuff which is probably the reason why none of my tanks are up anywhere - which is also probably the reason why I'm not a great aquascaper. :)

I’m very happy to listen to everyone’s perspective and taste. It’s all in the delivery. If it’s done in a constructive manner with mutual respect then it’s all good! I’m still learning every day and the comments section is a great place to get wonderful feedback, even when it’s a matter of differing taste. 👍

I can see Northies point, although what catched my eye was the small gravel. It DID look like someone had thrown small handfuls here and there. It was a bit artificial. I tried something similar once and it was hard to get it somewhat natural looking (and ended up using WAY more pebbles than intended). The Cyperus I found worked well with the balansae; great contrast. That aside, beautiful scape and plants, you guys are pros :D Good luck!
Looks like we'll all be off to the LFS To get some moss balls and try this technique 🤣🤣
