Budget Interior Transformation! 1992 Chevrolet Silverado! OBS Upgrades!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
After driving this regular cab shortbed for a few months I've identified some issues that need to be resolve. The main thing is the interior is absolutely disgusting! Also the doors rattle and the wind noise is annoying as all get out. I've also wanted to update the exterior mirrors, diagnose the HVAC and address some leaks. I really like this pickup so I hate to part with it but if someone were to fork out $9500 I'd let it go. As always, thanks for watching!

It's cool watching you work on a truck you clearly really like!
I upgraded the headlights in my 99 Tahoe and used the 3M buffing kit to bring the lenses back to clear. Living in Alaska, Moose collisions are common and these $70 headlight lamps make a tremendous difference.
Mortski repair: Saving the shop.
I like the videos where you revisit familiar projects. I like will it runs too, but seeing the improvements makes it extra cool.
I had a 90 GMc 2wd just like this when a whippr snapper. C notched it too. When I did my door pins I did the door main latch stud on back and it kept door from rattling. Keep it up, enjoyed the video.

The leftover headliner materiel looks to be a perfect match for covering for the cracked dash.
My son put the high dollar halogens in his 88 square body dually and I was surprised and impressed how much better they are at night. They are as good or better than some of the cheap LEDs I've used.
Perfect upgrade! I actually have used carpet dye in one of the cars I had. 1995 S10 Blazer 2 door. It had light grey carpet that was stained. The dye worked really well so I knew what you did would work!

Much improved!! Great job on the interior clean up. A time consuming and often tedious chore, but also very satisfying and worthwhile investment. I think I caught Duff giving you the sideways "stink eye" a few times. Must not have been happy about how long it took to get a ride this week. Or maybe because you took out the seat again, maybe both who knows. He is a handsome fella after his spa day!! Thanks for keeping us entertained again this week.
Im not a fan of lowering trucks but it sure is interesting to see how to do it. Love watching and learning. 62 yr old man! Lol!
A hundred thousand subscribers can't be wrong. Forgot how nice that generation of pickup was. You've turned this one into a sweet ride. I'm thinking, "More Mortske", for the name of a second channel and a third channel expansion could be Much More Mortske.

Reminds me so much of my 1500 when I got it. All the same things I had to do including the headliner. I used the extra material to sew up new sun visors.

I'm glad this truck turned out to be a nice ride, I saw the video where you brought it home and it was looking very promising even then. Looking forward to see it as it progresses. I've seen videos from auto detailers on KZread use a drill brush on carpeting and seats, not sure how they do on older vehicles though. Looking forward to the second channel when you get it launched!
Congrats on the (almost) 100k!! Still the best on KZread
That's an amazing interior and solid floor, not rotted out is definitely not normal for the states it was in.
glad to see mortske diving into vehicles of the 90s! Appreciate you working on the little details which make a huge difference
Personally, I would have repaired the passenger's side door hinges first for practice, and then the drivers side, because it gets used a lot more. Great instructional video. Maybe use the leftover headliner material to recover the visors? You could just throw those seat covers in the wash with the rest of your laundry, they'll be fine.
Love the truck rebirths! Keep 'em coming!

The problem with polishing up and or clearing the upper headlights is you can still see the yellow of the glue and the UV fading around the edges and on the inside. I just did this and the reflector bowl Chrome also was coming off. You can get away with sanding and clearing the lower lenses.
Nice job on the pickup Mortske. Got a hell of a lot done on that baby. Congrats on the 100k buddy, you definitely deserve it. Big Al.
Run your headlights through another relay/new heavy duty wiring. Helps a ton. Also you can do a 4-hi headlight mod. It’s all old obs mods that work

Awesome video!! I am reminded as to why I am a Ford guy. GM doesn't make their vehicles easy to work on. Oh and you can buy fabric and vinyl spray paint at a parts store or Amazon. It covers stains on carpet and upholstery. That way they both match. You could even paint the headliner and plastic.
Love this truck, some simple fixes/upgrades really work wonders. I put the larger "sport" mirrors on my 94 and I wished I did the little ones, they look so much cleaner!

I agree..the '94-'98 grill looks better than the '88-'93 in the Chevy..on the GMC, however, I think the opposite is true..the '88-'93 GMC grill looks better than the '94-'98 GMC grill..I have an '89 Chevy, a '90 Chevy, a '91 GMC, and a '98 Suburban, and to me the '91 GMC grill looks much better on the truck than the '89 and '90 Chevy..I also think the original('88-'93) Chevy grill was designed to be used with the quad sealed beam headlights..I think my '89 with the sealed beams looks better than the '90 with the plastic headlights..IMHO, the one-piece plastic headlights and the '88-'93 grill used together gives it to much of a "flat" appearance...the '98 Suburban has the newer style grill, and it looks better with the plastic headlights..I'm not going to swap any of the grills, though, as I don't like "mix and match" parts swapping between year models..rather leave them the way they were created... :)

Another option for that carpet that I do to all my vehicles is Tuff Stuff upholstery cleaner and a round brush attachment for your drill. Soak it with the Tuff stuff for 10 mins or so then use the drill brush and 9 out of 10 times any drink based and even some grease based stains go away. Then after the carpet is dry and stiff feeling run that drill brush one more time and the carpet softens up almost like when new. all in all it only takes an extra 15-20 mins over what you did. Just a different option I do. works for me for what it's worth. Like the channel keep up the good content.

+1 for the headlight replacement but if you’re bored sometime I’ve brought several sets back in the same shape. Scotch bright and some scuff stuff (I think it’s made by presta comes in a little white tub) then clear them. Look like new for 30 mins worth of work or so. Pretty budget friendly

Firstly ... sincere congrats on you and Duff hitting 100k subscribers !!! Enjoyed the video and your new Headliner ... just WOW, what a win. I would only remark that yes, even at 28F your AC needs to be operational. The AC doesn't just lower "Temp" ... it is also a "Dryer". Running the AC in Winter will "DeFog" your interior window in about 15 seconds AND add the benefit of drying out whatever is coming in under your carpet (and keep that moldy smell abated). Simply actuate the AC on a "Hot" setting (to prevent those in the cab that do not have a "fur coat" on) from freezing your arse off ;) Just sayin'
I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere else in the 2900+ existing comments, but the column shifter has a return spring in it that was used in just about every column-shifted GM vehicle made from about the mid 80s - mid 90s. They are mounted inside the column against the shifter and often break. I just had to put a replacement in my 1994 G20 van. Pop out the pin that holds in the shifter lever and it's right there. Can be removed with a pick. No column removal or disassembly needed. Like $10 on ebay for a new one, or pennies on the dollar at your local salvage yard. I took mine from an early 90s Buick something-or-other. Kind of annoying to put in, but not too bad and worth it.

Keeping The Shop With Duff & Mortske would be a good one. Did replace the interior lighting, tail/brake lights and brake cylops with LED on the Millennium Focus but kept with incandescent for headlights. Did upgrade a bit more brightness ( eyes aren't what the once were) but didn't go with the " is that another vehicle behind or did somebody touch off a nuke behind me" level brightness. As to the door panel grunge try using something called D'germ I've seen Junkyard Diggs descumify some hazmat suit level vehicles and personally have seen it descum some household messes that defied everything else I threw at it. You should be on the far western edges of Menards territory so check their cleaning supplies area and give it a go. Gonna be rolling cool in that Silverado.
