Super fun little Sportster project! With limited time and a tight budget I wanted to see how cool we could make a little sportster... I think it came out great! Let me know what you think in the comments and as always thanks for watching

A little tip is to peel the tape when the paint is not fully dried. Itll leave a more crisp line and you risk peeling the paint when you take the tape off when its fully dried
This is exactly what I need! I have a '94 Sportster and not much money.
I am very impressed with the rims, 2 thumbs up!
Those wheels turned out waaaay better than I expected!

Black is back! I can't wait to see how the wheels turn out, will look pretty good I am sure.
Love that Ford pickup. Bike turned out great, reminds me of my 1st sporty. Especially liked the decals and the wheels.
Tinfoil is a lot easier than tape. Looks good
This is going to be more of a fun bike to ride! Those rimz !
This is my first video I’ve seen of yours, loved it man. You helped more people than you know. Love the multiple days of work slammed into one video. Hope that good news made good process.

Damn I wish I could get my hands on something like that. Bike looks amazing!
I have a '84' XLH that I did things to like new fenders and split tank then I painted. Swaped wheels to spoke. Had the barrels borded to 20 over. Replaced everything in the motor including barrings except the cams. Those are the only thing thats te same. I've got new generator-regulator, starter, LED headlight and sidelights. Its like a new bike but didn't cost thousands but still it only has a 4 speed. It's funny I keep going for that fifth gear when I ride with my friends LOL. My goal was to make it not look like a sporter and I think I did just that. Don't care what anybody says the sportsters are a good bike.
Damn good job👍 I love what you did. Nice🤘
She looks absolutely great! 👍
Dude nice job. That came out great.
I enjoyed this a lot what a difference a few mods do AWESOME stuff Roll on the next project.
Looks great man, well done!
Looks good! Well done
Great job brother. Keep the vids coming. You got me as a subscriber
Damn good job. Beautiful Ford in the background also
I polished the alloy crank cases in the frame with drum emery and a air die grinder
When I did mine, I use the bedsheet and a long skinny screwdriver, just tuck it in everywhere. You don’t want paint to go.
Thank u so much, you really helped me with this video! Greets from the Netherlands 👍🏻
Cool, just picked up a 93 sportster for 500 with 16000 on it, was sitting for awhile, put 200 in it to get it started, now I am ready to update few items, thanks for the info
Wow the bike came out awesome. Love it. Only dislike is the decal but it's just a matter of preference
Old video but new to me. I REALLY like the looks. Great job! 👍🏼 💯🫵🏼👍🏼🫡👊🏼✌🏼🇳🇱
Great job on that Sportster.. I wish I was mechanically inclined like you guys man🤣 I'm worthless.. ch9es from the Central Valley
At first I thought it was going to just be another case of "putting lipstick on a pig" makeover.. I was wrong.. You and Damon put extra effort into it and did a fantastic job.. all your ideas worked out very well.. Thanks for the video.. good luck..

Perfect go kart engine!
Awesome budget build! Nice touches to bring an already good looking Sportster into current trend styling. Not a fan of the all black Nighster so imo this is a better looking version. Should sell rather quickly. Hell, have your buddy's shop sell it for a big profit.
Great stache. Got bars too
Nice job. I like it
Great outcome! Got a small Sportster as well and I think I´ll paint my engine black too.

Beautiful..
I bought alot of stuff at long beach swap meet and did all the wrenching myself and had fun. Cost less to LOL.
Clean sporty nice budget build
Great job
Best thing about a Sportster is it isn’t a luggage cart!
Hello Mason George, I have to say it again! GR8 job on the Sporty paint job. 883 or 1200? I have a 91 XL with the Xover under an S&S teardrop filter with a Super E shorty carb I never had a problem with. It is a freaking fun bike to ride, good wt/hp ratio. I am sure someone will be VERY glad to get that Sporty.
I put the same fairing on my sporty brat bob to help clean up the front end

@Rick Simpson I'm running 1 in risers and a single speedo, it sits tucked way inside, also I'm still using the stock headlight mount under it to reduce headlight vibration. I think with your risers and the side by side tack/speedo that it should fit with maybe the top edge of the tack and speedo peeking out the top, only one way to find out
"Itsa me, Luigi. Letsa go!"
Looks great
Yup 91 XL1200, Think I need a new tail lite tho. . .socket seems just a bit big for the 1157 light bulb.. rear dir sigs were just that. So I changed 'em to tail lites and dir. sigs, safer at nite if the regular tail lite goes out.
I love videos like this since I really want a cool cruiser but have no money
Good job.
it looks fantastic

Any idea what seat was used? Having trouble finding a dyna looking seat for my 94 sporty 1200
Looks waaay better. You need a hand masker. And there's nothing wrong with aerosol primers and paints. As long as it's the good stuff. $12 a can is the good stuff.
Those wheels turned out sick! Love the vid, new subscriber :-)

I have a question for you bro i wanna build my first motorcycle ever (as well as my first one to own) im picky and i want it to be a harley any good tips on what year to look for and model ?
Very cool result! I had that same fairing on my 2000 Dyna FXDX when I bough it, but it was mounted up (with that flimsy bracket) over the top of the stock headlight mount, which made it very solid. You couldn't really see the original headlight mount under the fairing. So, maybe you didn't need the custom mount? The wheels and fork lowers look excellent!
Good job on the build.

Sweet setup...I'm also into the blackout engine look, and have contemplated doing that to my '96. Question - what mirrors are those? I'd like to get me some of those low profile mirrors too.

U did an amazing job 👍 very good taste. From what you did with the wheels to the horn & painting the engine black just an amazing job. You said you'd found that sporty for a $700? I'm looking for budget sporty due to being a poor man living in North Philly. Any tips on where to look? Or is it just a luck kinda find?? My little sister is a junkie and she sold my 80 Ironhead behind my back for $300 the bike that was in my family since 93' that my dad put $20,000 into. I still got the title in my name but no bike. 😢 I miss riding so much. Well good luck with her she's a beautiful 94'
Love that Ford

How many cans of paint did it take to do the engine/crankcase area? I'm looking to do the same. Also where did you get the self etching primer, link?
@MasonGeorgeMotorcycles
4 жыл бұрын
Gregory Herrera I got the self etching primer at my local auto parts store and I think I bought three cans of primer three cans of paint and a couple cans of clear. Remember painting is 95% prep work, good luck!!!
Apparently black is in. I punched up this video thinking it was to address functional issues with a 29 year old bike. Instead it was all about not liking chrome and making it black. I am an older rider about to inherit a 95 xl1200 Sportster, stock, with lots of chrome, which I really prefer. I find the conversion to black a bit sacrilege. The bike, stock, represents the taste of the riders of the time. Me!
What was your process on painting the motor,?
do you have the link for the fairing? tried searching the comments but couldn't find.
Mason, you seem like a nice guy so I want to pass on a little tip. I remain anonymous on here, but I have a small well respected Dyna performance shop. You can change the look of the front end for the better by redrilling the fender mounting bolts. It gets rid of the dirt bike look and when you see the difference, it's worth the effort. I have a dozen bikes done this way with probably a hundred thousand miles combined, so yes it holds up. And yes on the COMMANDER II tires, my " shop " Dyna has over 160 pounds feet of torque at the wheel, and the MICHELIN is the only tire for me. All the very best, SARGE.
@MasonGeorgeMotorcycles
4 жыл бұрын
SARGE BULLDOG awesome thanks for the tip I appreciate it big time! On my personal bike (FXDX) I made a fender mount out of a Roland Sands fork brace and it worked out great!!! I’ll definitely give it a try on the next sportster I get in. Thanks again!
Nice bike... So, how long does the paint on the engine last? Does the heat make it flake off after a while?
@MasonGeorgeMotorcycles

Charles Belville as long as you don’t clean it with a screw driver and wire brush it should be fine 😂🤣

I have a 1995 XLH 1200 in showroom condition & I love mine too & I ride it pretty hard & it has never let me down, great bike! The vibrations in the bars & pegs sometimes irritate me but I just deal with it, does yours vibrate bad? Do you have any tricks to dampen the vibes in the bars?
@stretchman490
4 жыл бұрын
@@jimmansi1187 Back in the days they used to use fishing weights or washers and make some weights that would get rtv'ed into the bar ends and curb the vibrations. You could also use sport bike type weights if you don't mind having sliders on the bar ends. Limits what kind of grips you can use though. Gotta experiment.

I own & ride HD's for over 40 yrs now but im no expert wrench or expert painter so excuse me if im talking out of school,id think painting over that front end & rims may end up bad,im curious as to the durability of your paint ideas,id think the paint will chip easily.
