You could slip a pair of thick socks over that arm brace. Double them back when there's too much to put them on all the way and the extra should be long enough to double the padding on the weight-bearing portion again.

You can get a rifle rated shield from hardcore defense for around that price, and it doesn't have a shelf life because it's steel, so you don't have to replace it every 5 years.

It would be easy to mount some lights on the front using the mounting hardware that holds the handles on.

One of the science channels had a guy build one that was a replica of one from a comic book or from some game. It has like 8 of the brightest led lights on front. The Hacksmith or one of those shows. They tested it with a lumens meter and it was brighter than the sun. Lol. Cool. Video. Yt search led riot shield

And mount it on a dolly so you don't have to lug it around. How heavy is that with those lights and batteries to power it? Or get like 6 shields or so and enclose a mobile wheel chair.

The arm brace is not designed to reverse for lefties ! Looks like it can be reversed ,but then the arm hoop is up-side down and is welded in place ??

Find a recycler that breaks down old trash trucks. Cut a shield size of steel from the body. Make sure it has the hardox in it though.
