Spring Day is a beautiful song with a beautiful message that can really reach million of people for different reasons. The song was written by RM and Suga as they thought back on memories they had of lost friends. RM said that writing this song is what inspired him to reach back out to friends that he had been missing and gave him the confidence to go for it. Suga wrote this song about someone who was his dearest friend. Their relationship ended on rough terms and he tells about missing him and thinking about those complex feelings of nostalgia, grief, sorrow, and anger that comes with a broken relationship. He wrote another song "Dear My Friend", which is on his second mixtape, about the same friend. The music video for the song was separately inspired by and giving memorial to the victims of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. This is what really lead the song to take off and become pretty famous in South Korea. It still stays on the charts today, some six years later. They have also since dedicated the song to high school seniors of 2020 when they sang it at the KZread graduation and to their fans for this Tiny Desk Concert. I love this song because of how powerful it is and how it can be relatable to so many people. I know many people who are reminded of lost ones, some who think of old friends, some who think of the ferry tragedy, and many other reasons to love this song.

@@Michelen7 I'm assuming you're referring to the one by Bulletproof Vibes? If so then I totally disagree. That one makes a lot of lose assumptions based on individual bits of the MV but doesn't take the overall context into account. I mean, it starts out with a claim that V is a guilt-stricken survivor with suicidal thoughts which makes no sense when you think about the overall message of the MV and the entire album for that matter. That's why I never recommend that one because I think it's completely wrong. Italian ARMY even travelled to South Korea and talked to people to ensure that she understood things correctly. So even though I agree that it's quite heavy I still think it would be wrong to recommend anything else. 💜

This was during the pandemic so they had to the tiny desk concert in South Korea as they couldn't travel, RM also did a solo tiny desk concert too after his album Indigo came out last year. The Queen Spring Day was just ranked by Rolling Stone as the 4th greatest kpop song of all time and it's still on Korean charts 6 years after its release.

BTS has never confirmed that this is about the Ferry incident. Spring Day was released 3 years AFTER the incident so why'd they wait so long if it was about the incident? Knowing the guys, if they wanted a tribute song, they would've released it IMMEDIATELY. BTS just said Spring Day is about a sad incident but never confirmed anything. Just because the MV is about the incident doesn't necessarily mean that's what the song is about. This song can be interpreted SO MANY different ways.

In the book that just recently came out, they go even more in depth about the inspiration. Suga directly confirms the theory that fans have had a long time about him writing Spring Day about the same friend he wrote Dear My Friend about. RM also has talked many times about the inspiration of the song and how it inspired him to reach back out to old friends and reconnect with them.

71 year old BTS Army here. "Spring Day" has been on the S. Korean charts since 2017 and is known as The Queen. It is about loss and and some Armys have tied it to the Ewol Ferry disaster in S. Korea where hundreds of school children were lost. The families use this song to memorialize their terrible loss. (I made a correction because I was told I was incorrect. See Army comment below.) There is more to the Ewol story and you can find a video about it on youtube. You can also find an explanation video about the references/symbolism in the "Spring Day" music video. Jin's pink microphone lost some of its sparkly beads during their rehearsal for their last concert when he took it out of the mic stand.. he's pretty sad about it, I think his favorite mic.. they now have different and new colored mics but the ones they're using here, they used them for a long time so they held sentimental value

the most amazing and different thing about BTS is that all memebers are loved by the army. sure we each have out favorite but we love them all equally. there is a few solo stans only but it´s so minor compared to other groups. a group normally have 1 or 2 memebers who are good and the rest is nothing special. but with BTS they ALL are so talented that you can´t say who is the best. and if just one of them is missing it´s like a family memeber is missing. it would never be the same.

You should do a 2 for 1 special and watch the SAVE ME video and tag on the SAVE ME SHOOTING SKETCH. It looks a simple video but it definitely wasn't! It is a genuine one take video and let's just say ponchos were involved! 💜

The BTS mics are indeed personalized by each member, they each chose how their mics and earpieces would look, they often match them, and sometimes the earpiece will have a cool “symbol” on it, like Jin’s used to be a Super Mario star (the one that makes Mario invincible) bc he loves playing games and on stage he wants to feel like he’s invincible, later on he switched to one with ARMY written on it bc army gives him strength. They each have their own and they also gifted Halsey her own personalized mic too.

Spring Day is the purest expression of grief and longing I've ever seen. If you've lost anyone, it's so familiar - that desperate wish to see them again when they've gone too far to follow. Will I get to you more quickly if I'm a snowflake in the air? This is the video that hooked me. I had only heard Dynamite, which didn't really grab me, but then seeing them have fun with it really helped. And then Save Me had such deeper meaning, and then Spring Day made me cry. Love that you appreciated the mics. Last fall Jin's favorite pink mic was damaged before their concert and he was so sad. What's fun is that the colored sparkly mics aren't just for show - everyone's stuff is tuned to them and having them match their in-ears makes it less likely anyone will grab the wrong equipment 😂 but the crystals aren't entirely necessary 🤣

Spring Day has to be the most meaningful song; cuz not only they dedicate this to the family/friends of those who passed in sewol ferry tragedy, a soft power against the corrupt government; a comfort for survivor's guilt, they also referenced literatures like The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas, Snowpiercer, little match girl (?) they collectively mash those short stories to create a cohesive message about loss

You are talking about the music video. The song itself was written about specific people in the guys’ lives and their own experiences with the grief, regret, and sorrow of broken relationships and missing lost friends.

Yes, their energy on tiny desk was so infectious! They chose their setlist perfectly to give hope and comfort to people struggling in lockdown, with all 3 songs really. (Their sparkly microphones really are incredible! For a long time they each had their own specific colour, but then some of them switched/changed so now I don’t know anymore. There was a behind the scenes video of a concert once, where Jin was really sad that his had gotten damaged, but luckily they had a spare one in a different colour he could use 😅)

I see you get to know our Queen, Spring Day. This is a beloved song to ARMY, and I saw several ppl explained about this song to you below. 👍 This song has never left the chart and it will rise up every time there's a new release. It's awesome. You need to watch the MV, and look for the explanation of the MV (Yes, there is an explanation!). You'll be blown away by the deptth of the lyrics and the symbols in the MV. RM is truly a genius poet and thinker.

Its another intimate setting, they do a compilation of some of their b sides throughout the years (often their b sides are even better than the title tracks) To see them wildin out on stage live, with dancing & a whole lot of other stuff, check out mma 2019 (melon music awards, its an award show, & korean award shows put ours to shame) its amazing & they make western artists look lame in comparison during their live shows. I saw them in concert dec 2021 & it was the greatest concert ive ever been to, and im 50 lol ive been to all types and this was on my bucket list at #1 😊 💜 love your reactions eta: you dont have to go in order or react to them in a certain way. Most ARMYs didn't start at the beginning & we were fine. Its a fun journey no matter which way you go, just do what feels right, and dont feel pressured by me or anyone else to do it *our* way. I went with a 77 year old friend I met in the comment section of a BTS reaction video lol, as well as my 18 year old daughter. I agree that everyone's journey is magical and special. Save Me is one of my most favorite songs ever, but Spring Day has such a special place in my heart. My dad passed 3 years ago and I remember hearing this song for the first time and crying my heart out. That’s what made me army. It’s his birthday tomorrow and it’s making me cry all over again. Jin almost cried when his favorite sparkly pink microphone broke or was losing its crystals right before their latest all-7 concert in Busan Korea last year. 😱😭 Luckily he brought a backup- a sparkly light green one!! They have used them for years and the colors have changed. Most also have matching sparkly in-ear monitors. When they did a song with US singer Halsey, (now a good friend of the group) they gifted her one of her own in orange. 🧡💜🎤

Watching this reaction, I got emotional once again listening to spring day. You guys reminded me how beautiful it is. It's called the Queen of bts songs because of how south Koreans have adopted it as their anthem for certain events. The song is said to have the feeling of 'han'. Han is a korean term for deep sorrow, it could be the collective sorrow in people or a country and it usually is expressed through art and music. And anyone can relate to the feeling of longing. Which is I love spring day so much.

There are so many ways to interpret this song. One of my favorites is that, this song is sung from a perspective of someone who is grieving over the loss of a loved one. Especially since the MV was directed in some sense as a tribute to the tragedy of the sweol ferry incident. I love how they say “if you wait a little longer I’ll come to you.” I interpret it as saying “once I’ve lived my life here I’ll join you in the afterlife” anyway that one of many ways to interpret this song.

Out of all the performances of Dynamite (and there are quite a few), this Tiny Desk Concert one is my favorite. It’s just their clear beautiful vocals and their live band. No filters, or special effects, or even choreo. Just their beautiful voices…love it! 💜

To be honest, I’ve forgotten exactly how those microphones came into being, but…. As far as I remember there was a decision that each member should have a microphone in their favorite color. For example, V’s favorite color is green. Then the Swarovski diamond company offered to coat each of their microphones in the same color with Swarovski diamonds. Request video: BTS - Spring day MV and Explanation video. Spring day is about the sewol ferry tragedy that happened back 2014. The song was released in 2017 tribute song of the tragedy, many student die and suffer. Its all the captain fault it because he told to the kids to stay still instead of evacuate in ship. In korea kids often to listen in elders or in captain and kids just listen to captain but the captain and the crew is the one who the first to evacuate and left the kids But many rescue divers in there but they did'nt save even one person so some kids decide to jump and save their lives but many kids wait the announcement the captain but the captain was evacuate. The rescue divers just circling around the ship and wait the ship get sink.

No it is not. The MV was a memorial to the tragedy, but the song was not written about or for it. The guys have talked so many times about the inspiration of the song. Suga wrote it about the same friend he wrote “dear my friend” about, channeling the feelings of grief, sorrow, and guilt that comes from broken relationships, and RM wrote it inspired by old friends he had lost contact with over the years.

There's a saying among Army called "The Jimin Effect" you see. I can see it working on you already. He will steal your child, your mama, your husband and you all at the same time. No matter what age or gender you are it's completely acceptable to have a crush on Park Jimin. I've never seen so many straight men fall for a guy in my life. He's just that special. Spring day is a very sad song with a terrible, tragic story behind it. You should look on the internet to research the Sewol tragedy. This song is now in the hearts of the Korean public. Their mics are pretty and their ear buds match. In one video Jin got really upset because the mic stand scratched off some of the crystals on his pink mic.

The song is not about the tragedy. The music video was, but not the song. The song is about personal stories from the guys. Suga wrote it specifically for the same friend he wrote “Dear My Friend” about and RM wrote it while thinking about reconnecting with old high school friends.
