In my opinion BSA really should include a moderator, especially when you consider the fact that they make one of their own anyway.

Got a BSA Cadet Major for my 6th birthday to use on my grand dads pig farm in 1964. Had loads of BSA's since, last one a BSA S10 about 28 years ago, if i remember right about £300 new. Love the BSA cold hammer forged barrels as accurate as you would ever need, so i thought. Brought a Steyr Hunting 5 & that is crazy accurate, so it should be for the price but my shooting just got 10x better = a lot more rabbits!!

Hello Richard and another great review i am a big fan of your channel and purchased the CLX in part based on your take. I have put an HW XLK silencer on my .177 and it is very very quiet , very accurate also. Great light and still short rifle at under 90cm with the silencer and a compact 44mm scope on sports match medium mounts (13mm bsa). The rifle can be de cocked also rather than dry fired when wanting to remove the magazine for storage etc. Once again a very professional and easy to watch format you have ...nice one.

Nice review on a very nice little rifle and well done to BSA on that magazine. It sits below the dovetails, is simple to load and totally unobtrusive when inserted into the breech - a vast improvement on the gigantic, oddly shaped monstrosities sitting in some of the far more expensive air rifles in my cabinet. What this rifle really needs is a regulator. I’m glad you reviewed it Richard - it is a substantial improvement on the old ultra.

Thanks for yet another very useful and informative review of the BSA Ultra CLX. I have just purchased this Rifle and must agree that it's an excellent Rifle. I have always wanted to own a BSA and with this been priced very reasonably it allowed me to do so. I have only one small niggle and that's that BSA should include a moderator with the rifle as it's far too loud for pesting and hunting but that's the only gripe i have. Thanks again and keep up the great work. 👍👍👍

Ps the sweet spot in .177 starts at 195 bar down to 90 bar for 60 . Don't know about the .22 but I doubt it will require 232 bar . I'd estimate 185 - 190 for the .22 version .?

love it, thanks for another great video. Few things ill wish were diferente on the clx platform: the 12 shot magazine is too big and sticks out way to much, a 10 shot mag also will be able to reduce the gap between air cylinder and barrel and more important, a shorter transfer port, plus 10 makes my OCD happy. The cut in the wood for the magazine appears to be exaggerated, same with the one for the safety. will prefer a left/right safety over a top/left one, last one, why is that side plate a different black?, i like the gun, can't wait to see a new r10 with this platform, maybe a more stylish block in it? Question, the 50% increase in shot count, is there more efficiency or the air cylinder is just 50% bigger?

I caused offence with my original review for which I apologise and I have withdrawn it. I am not questioning the integrity of the reviewer in any way. My original comments were based upon long term use, manufacturing issues and poor support. Perhaps it might be beneficial if reviewers who give up their time to undertake their reviews could spare the time to provide a long term review on the same product after a period of use.

I really like your honest appraisals of air weapons available to us. If I may be so bold as to suggest a possible improvement in the on-target portion of your videos. Dirty Bird targets obscure quite a lot of the image available to the viewer and as a centerfire benchrest shooter in my past aiming small makes us shoot small so may I suggest aiming at say the 'circle' made by the number nine or the upper circle of an 8 and raising the scope by about 10-16 clicks so the group shot does not obscure your precise aiming point. I write not to criticise in any way, I only hope to give some feedback and perhaps help a fellow shooter along the way. I appreciate these points may be known to you and you chose to shoot another way. Many thanks for your videos and kindest regards from Scotland.

@@alphamilitaria2756 I'm a returning airgunner after 30 years of centerfire accuracy based shooting. 100m Benchrest and 1000 yards F-class shooting along with hunting. I was gifted a HW100k, non-thumbhole in .22 and it was a revelation after a youth spent with springers. I now practise my benchrest technique with the air rifle. I had no idea an air rifle could place pellet upon pellet so regularly as to be able to call ones mistakes and hone technique from the bench. After a recent factory service at Hull my HW came back with a standard deviation of 7 f.p.s over 14 shots. I watch your videos with covetous eyes but know in my heart I got a good one from the start and should be content. Many thanks for all your efforts, regards Angus in bonny Scotland. P.S if you don't have a shotgun or firearms certificate it costs you 76 quid for an air rifle permit for sub 12ft/lbs up here, the same price as a F.A.C or shotgun. Talking to my local gun shop owner it has destroyed the airgun trade. No walk in tempted returners to the sport, no teenage kids badgering dad for a cheap springer to bash cans. Dead trade. It's a shame.

@@longlowdog It certainly sounds like you've had the right schooling when it comes to pulling a trigger and I'm glad you are enjoying the re-discovery of air rifles. It is amazing how accurate they can be. And what a wonderful rifle to be given - one of the best. I love my .177 HW100S to bits - endlessly reliable and incredibly accurate. A real keeper. The airgun license in Scotland is a crazy decision; those who plan to get up to no good with an air rifle are never going to bother getting a license anyway! Good luck and take care.

( well hers is ) bolt is a tad stiff , but that may ease with use .. all in all , a nice little package ... oh btw , chuck the " muzzle break " in the skip .. it duz absolutely ... #### all ... oh , with the FX chrono , knocking out an average of exactly 12fpe .. so obviously some higher readings then the legal limit , however , going to put a few more tins through it ( aint had a great deal of use ) chrono again .. and if need be .. get it lowered .. a tad ..

Recently picked a clx up in 177 to be my dedicated ratting tool . It's a beautifully made rifle no dought feels lovely to use nice smooth action however the claimed shot count is not correct. From a 230 fill the first 12 shots are in the 9ft range then once it sorts itself out a maximum of 10.5 using air arms diablo fields . Using bisley mags limped up to 11ft . In reality the 177 you'll get about 40 usable shots before she tails off . I'm in the process of trying to get mine looked at by my dealer. Seen a few reviews of this rifle and no one has chronied it to see what it's doing . My gut feeling is if it's looked at by a tuning Company say ratworks for example a reg put on it she'll be amazing. Point being out the box it's not really up to scratch imop. Sorted out will probably cost say £250 / £300 . I'm just really underwhelmed and disappointed for £600 this is unacceptable for me and I really wanted to love it English made and all . Unfortunately I think the guys reviewing this have their rose tinted glasses on.

Thanks very much Bionic. I really appreciate that. It still feels a bit weird talking to myself in a field and I've had a few odd looks from a farm worker here and there! Hopefully the opportunity for another CLX will come along before too long. Great value for money rifles and a real improvement over the SE in my view. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Dave. Yes, it will shoot any pellets, assuming of course its the right calibre. I've always found Air Arms Diabolo Field, JSB and H&N pellets to work best. BSA make some good pellets as well - the Red Star, Blue Star and Elite go well. It's worth trying a few different brands as some will suit the rifle better and be more accurate than others. Avoid cheap brands!

Personally I'd be tempted by the FX, HW110 or R10. If you can, find a gun shop and put them in your shoulder. Good luck!

Hi Richard , not sure if you could offer advice with this one , my Weihrauch Hw99 does group , but in a different area every day ! My Hw95 i previously had wouldn’t group at all causing me to part ex for a hw77 . That also doesn’t group and makes my target card look like a shotgun has hit it ( 20 metres ) . I just want a rifle that i can pick up any time of day and hit the target with . Is a pcp the answer or do they have their own issues as well , or is it me 🙁

  • @alphamilitaria2756

    @alphamilitaria2756

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Marty. There's a whole bunch of things there! I hope the following helps: 1. Springers are more difficult to shoot consistently and accurately, requiring more technique than PCPs due to the fact there is some recoil. Basically you want to ensure that your hold on the rifle is consistent each time in terms of position, pressure of your grip - you want the rifle to recoil to the same extent each time. If you're resting on a bag or gun rest, put your lead hand on the rest and then your rifle on your hand. Don't put your rifle directly on the bag/rest. 2. Have you done any pellet testing? Try several different brands of pellets, but stick to the quality brands - JSB, Air Arms, H&N. You'll find that some work better in your rifle than others. Some pellets offer different head sizes as well. Air Arms Diabolo Field (the brand I use most often) come in 4.50, 4.51 and 4.52 for example (and same options for .22). Once you find a brand your rifle seems to like, it may be worth trying different head sizes. My Weihrauch HW77s and HW80 like 4.52 and 5.52. 3. Have you cleaned the barrel? If not, invest in a pull through kit - the Napier kit is excellent. Once you've cleaned the barrel, put a hundred or so pellets though it again to 'lead the barrel'. 4. If your rifle is grouping but in different places, it sounds to me that perhaps your hold/grip is changing between sessions, or possibly your scope is moving. Good mounts are a must, especially on a springer as they will have to deal with recoil. I user Sportsmatch. Tighten them on the rail, but don't over-tighten on the actual scope. To prevent your mounts moving under recoil you can either use an arrestor pin if your rifle has shallow holes in the top of the breach - Sportsmatch mounts come with a pin. It simply anchors the rear mount. If your rifle doesn't have a hole for the pin you can buy an arrestor block which fits behind the rear mount as a kind of buffer. 5. Set realistic targets. 20 metres is a good distance to start at with a springer. Practice until you see an improvement. Good springers like yours are capable of PCP levels of accuracy, but take a lot more practice and technique. I hope that helps. If ever you're in the Reading area on a Saturday and want to drop buy Reading Air Target Shooting club, just let me know. Good luck!
