This and Berlioz' are the most moving I have come across with...!

Yes I agree this is a very moving version, Bruckner was authentic in his sacred music I think, but I love the fact that you can also have something as bombastically joyful as Charpentier! kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2eAq86zgNfZndo.html

Il più bel Te Deum assieme a quello di Verdi dei pezzi sacri!

This drags. I prefer Jochum's version.

Other reviews suggest that this allows you to hear all the detail. Why not??

"no great music was ever composed by an atheist" Laughably false. This statement is the product of ignorance, bigotry, or both. As for "where it all began", I'm pretty sure that art music-and certainly sacred music-originated considerably earlier than the late 18th century. By several centuries.

The impact of atheism on the ability to write music is doubtful at best.

Brahms was an agnostic.
Poor singers! This is TOO SLOW!!!! Sounds lovely, yes, but in execution it must be so demanding for the singers. It already is hard to sing vocally let alone in this dragging pace.
Too fussy ! The old version conducted by Karl Forster is the antidote

Fussy? Why?

@@LadyAkratos Karajan in recordings was often excessively smooth and mannered in a way that wasn't necessarily true of his live performances, which could be quite different. (Same with Kempff.) Bruckner was a simple direct composer and Forster catches that better than his more famous colleague.
