Poor singers! This is TOO SLOW!!!! Sounds lovely, yes, but in execution it must be so demanding for the singers. It already is hard to sing vocally let alone in this dragging pace.

1:05 Narration from _The Story of Bach,_ part of the Vox "Introduction to the Classics" series: As he wrote this music, which pictures the suffering and the death of the Savior, Bach himself was so deeply moved that he sat at his desk deadly pale and trembling, tears rolling down his cheeks. Nobody would have dared to disturb him during these hours!

Nilsson is great, but she sounds forty, not sixteen. Stratas in the Götz Friedrich film is far preferable. Salome should sound like a nubile, seductive young woman, not a Valkyrie.

Can someone please confirm if this the full St Matthew's Passion? Mendelsohn's butchered version usually lasts 1,5hrs, so I am only judging by the lenght of it, not being a Bach conoisseur.

Always my first choice in case of Brahms' concerto! It's technically perfect, never exaggerating in tempos, which allows you to delight yourself with the melodies, and Anne-Sophie's violin has exactly the crystal clear "red wine" tone this concert demands! It's passionate and at times tragic on one side, and it's sweet and intoxicated with love on the other! Magnificent performance and iconic recording of Brahms's masterpiece! 🖤💛❤️ Berlin Philharmonic is, imo, the best suited orchestra to play German classical music - it's part of their DNA! And Maestro von Karajan thrived in this music, too!
