Mike The Scott What? It was given to Windham and Rotunda, Team USA. Hogan’s theme always loses a point or two over the likes of Austin, Bret, Rock, Taker, Foley, etc, just for that reason. Those themes were written FOR those characters, with them in mind. Hogan’s was written with two other guys entirely in mind. It’s as iconic as it gets, and it did kinda work for Hogan, but it still wasn’t written FOR him.

I've known that Demolition took their look (hockey mask, chest harness, black undies) from the movie Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior as that's the look of gang leader Lord Humungus from that movie. I also knew that before Demolition, the Lord Humungus look and name was used in southern territories. But I never put the pieces together until now. In late 1985, Randy Colley was in one of the territories as The Nightmare, managed by Sir Oliver Humperdinck. SOH also managed the second Lord Humongous, Jeff Van Kamp. Colley and LH worked together in a feud against (pre WWF) Jake Roberts. So it was Randy Colley that saw the Lord Humungus gimmick and brought it to the WWF. I have no idea if Colley knew LH or The Road Warriors were inspired by Mad Max 2.

Exactly. Both were much more accomplished workers than the Road Warriors. I LOVE the Road Warriors, but they didn't have a lot to offer beyond power moves and brawling, but both Eadie and Darsow could wrestle any style if called for. That's also what made Crush stand out like a sore thumb, he was just not even remotely on the same level.

Just to clarify- it was the Powers of Pain that were the Road Warrior rip-offs. Vince signed them from Crockett when he lost out on the Road Warriors when they re-signed/re-upped with Crockett for $500,000 guaranteed per annum. The Powers of Pain quit Crockett due to having to take bumps off the scaffold in scheduled scaffold matches with the Road Warriors, and that was when Vince signed them with the intention that they were akin to the Road Warriors.

There were NWA wrestlers that used the Lord Humongous gimmick. Sid Vicious was the 2nd or 3rd Lord Humongous, in Memphis.

Do Road Warriors marks not realize that Hawk and Animal ripped their gimmick off a Mel Gibson movie? Mad Max 2, The Road Warrior. Before teaming with Hawk, Animal was a singles wrestler called THE Road Warrior. Hawk and Animal look like Mad Max character Wez, the main antagonist to Mad Max. Wez had a mohawk and wore shoulder pads, but without spikes. Demolition looks like Mad Max character Lord Humungus, the leader of the gang of villians. Lord Humungus wore a hockey mask, a chest harness, and studs. Before Demolition, there were wrestlers in NWA territories named Lord Humungus, who copied that look right out of the movie. Sid Vicious was (I think) the third Lord Humungus in Memphis. Jake Roberts wrestled the second Lord Humungus in a cage in Houston.

I thought Demolition was a Road Warriors ripoff at first, but when I saw the Powers of Pain I said now THAT'S a true ripoff lol. Demolition eventually carved out an identity and legacy for themselves that separated them from the Road Warriors. Their wrestling style was different, but it can't be denied that the look was at least partially similar to the Road Warriors since they took the look from the same movie the Road Warriors took their look from. But if you break down the looks of both teams, it's really just the face paint that's the "ripoff". Remove the paint and we probably don't have the ripoff discussion. The Road Warriors probably got a large chunk of their look from the Bearclaw Mohawk character. Demolition probably took a lot of their look from the Lord Humungus character, which ironically was yet another gimmick that was played by numerous people, including Sid Vicious. The face paint was added MAYBE to give a small Road Warriors hint since the team was an answer to Vince not being able to get the Road Warriors. Whatever the story is, both are legendary tag teams and the word "ripoff" is inaccurate when describing Demolition's inspiration.

I think Sid Vicious as the second or third Lord Humongous wore a white mask. A previous Lord Humongous wrestled Jake Roberts in a cage match and looked closer to the movie character. Jake gave Lord Humongous a DDT. LH kicked out. Jake got tied in the ropes. Someone threw a chair into the ring. Jake got out of the ropes and DDTed LH on the chair for the pin.

Idk why after three decades people won't admit Demolition were a Road Warriors clone? Its common knowledge they were created after Hawk, Paul and Animal went to Vince's house in Connecticut, and thought about leaving Crockett. When they chose not to, Vince created Demo. and referred to them as "our Road Warriors" . That story of Randy Colley creating the gimmick was never heard until three years or so ago.

100% spot on. Hypocrisy/WWF bias is why people won't admit it. A face painted tag team consisting of two big guys wearing all black, with spikes, heavy metal music, sticking out their tongues, menacing talk, power moves, etc = definite Road Warrior ripoff. The Road Warriors were over huge in the U.S. and Japan, having more imitators than any gimmick in history.

Not quite Bruce, music business works a little different since it's entirely founded on musical ideas. Any musician that doesn't cover their own asses with copywrite deserves to be ripped off, but musicians can and often do copywrite their ideas. That's not to say no one rips off other musicians, but it's a lot harder to get away with in music.

Demolition in the road warriors Jimmy was completely different demolition kept up with the road warriors with their popularity and people didn't like the road warriors will cry babies when they went to the WWF it got rid of the powers when they said too many teams had the same all three teams will what the road warriors did not own the makeup gimmick the blade runner's get it first you alternate warrior and so if you want to call demolition show with the there's matches when they won against the blade when the roadways didn't have the blade runner's did restless get ideas from other teams and other restless and that's what makes it great don't make them copycat if they create their own characters
