    Hi everyone, I actually made this cake last night and it's pretty good. It's definitely a cake meant for people who absolutely adore chocolate. If you're not someone who adores chocolate I'd either add a bit of sugar to the chocolate glaze or skip the glaze altogether. If I were to make the cake again I'd probably skip it because the cake itself is quite rich. When cold the texture is similar to a brownie, but when it's room temperature it is very soft and melts in your mouth. It is a very nice texture and I would not mind baking this again. Oh yeah, I baked mine for around 40 - 45 mins and then left it in my fridge overnight. Okay, hope that helps anyone who needed a second opinion. Bye bye~

    I think Bruce bogtrotters cake was three layers of that sponge, with maybe a buttercream in the middle with the glaze over everything... epic! *edit* it was also huge! Just a note... For recipes that specify using semi sweet chocolate, it is actually recommended to use baker's chocolate rather than chocolate chips. Chocolate chips contain a different level of cocoa than baker's chocolate, and are meant to retain their shape in baked items such as cookies. They achieve this by having added ingredients such as wax and other stabilizers that can affect both texture and taste. Baker's chocolate is made in a way that allows them to melt in a more uniform fashion, thus melding into baked goods more easily :)

  • @katvtay

    @katvtay

    5 жыл бұрын

    Lynne TMB What are you even talking about, more butter, sugar, and changing the whole recipe? The issue is about what kind of semi sweet chocolate to use, and they’re right, chocolate chips really are meant to retain their shape while Baker’s bars are more intended to melt. Unsophisticated recipes may say use chocolate chips, but replacing them for Baker’s chocolate is technically more ideal, and it doesn’t foul up the recipe at all. It’s always funny that the bitchiest people are often the wrongest. Well done.

  • @jamesfromacct

    @@katvtay using bakers chocolate would affect the sweetness and flavor in a recipe that calls for semi sweet chocolate, they are not interchangable. Semi sweet chocolate is between around 40-70% cocoa, and contain much more cocoa butter and sugar. Bakers chocolate has less cocoa butter, and zero sweetener or sugar, it is considered 100% dark chocolate.

It's not always enough to know what to do; you need to know what *not* to do. Every time something doesn't go according to plan, you take what you learned, roll up your sleeves, and try again. And you always emerge victorious!

    Danny, The champion of the world totally entranced me as a child. A great story about a boy and his father. One of the scenes in the book describes a big friendly giant.....Roald Dahl would later use that idea in another book, so it links together beautifully.

    Omg it’s my favorite too and I never hear anything about it. I used to drink cocoa and eat beans on toast all through college because it made me feel connected to my childhood, even though I just read it in that book.

    it's interesting that the movie and the book have two different sizes of cakes. The movie was 7 layers I think...or was it 11?? LOL

    I read nearly every Roald Dahl book as a child. Matilda, BFG, The Twits, The Witches, Esio Trot, Fantastic Mr Fox. All great books! I remember laughing the hardest at The Twits. I wonder if there’s a worm spaghetti 🍝 🐛 recipe in that book? 🤔 I have a vague memory of worm spaghetti from The Twits. Is that right?

    Sarah Maria Did you read The Witches? That was always one of my favorites. Also, Henry Sugar and Other Stories was a good read though I was absolutely horrified by the swan story...
