She “chose” to tango and wanted to keep the baby, but she didn’t and couldn’t make the choice to keep it because she’s in a conservatorship. Thats a big word, I know, but it basically means her freedom was taken away and given to her father instead. So, no, it wasn’t her choice. She was forced into an abortion.

When performing this song during live shows she would say this was her favorite song and it was very special. She wrote the song and most people thought (for years) it was an apology song to Justin that 'she' had written. It was NOT an apology song to Justin, "at all" - you can search u-tube, I'm sure there are articles still out there. And the video for this song almost wasn't, because that's not the ending she wanted in the video, and I agree with her 100% on that. They eventually convinced her to release it the way it was and not change the ending of the video. Justin is a pos for what he did and she carried it around for so many, many years.

This song makes perfect sense after 20 years. A true artist. So sad, but so beautiful in a sense that we all didn't know her demons. When this song came out, it was so unlike of her other songs & made me think "What is going on here?" It is definitely her masterpiece. An apologetic song to her unborn child, whom she gave her virginity to the love of her life, only to be screwed over by him & her family. It's very tragic.

I can’t believe it’s already been 20 years since the first time I heard this song really and it’s even sadder now that I look at it as the reason why I came back to this song it’s because I just scrolled through some Britney Spears reel in the state she is now…

They ensured she had the bare minimum education from 14 onward because she was their cash cow just needed to perform. They allowed her to be put In adult situations that she was not mature enough to be in, and when she did get older, she never learned how to ease her way into anything because she was thrown into adulthood and missed that experimental time of her life. She was 16 when her first album was released. Before that she worked for Disney as a stage performing Mouseketeer. So yes, you’re right, she made choices, but only look at the circumstances that led her to make the type of choices that she made, None of us can fully understand the impact of being a super celebrity at such a young age.

I vividly remember the first time I saw this video and thinking it sounded like a terribly sad lullaby. She didn’t. She’s confirmed it was just about her breakup. The lullaby type sound is simply because she had relatively rudimentary piano skills. It adds a beautifully haunting layer to the song, but that is just a coincidence. Her and her cowriter confirmed it was not about her abortion and that Britney had no say in the video concept.

Musically, this harmony is abundant in classical music and depicts something gentle/sad in general. It is just how music works and how a harmony can be used in several contexts. Most musicians are gonna welcome freedom of interpretation even. If your ability to imagine is limited, it is your own problem. PS: the occasional heavy kicks e.g before and in the chorus e.g 2:05 are too dramatic for lullaby. There's the whole song and yet some people talk like they hear only the soft intro and the lyrics and don't give a damn about other instruments. Have some more listen pls.

You're right. To me it always sounded like a music box, as a small child I had a little jewelry box that had a wind up music box with a little ballerina that would twirl inside when you'd wind it up and it would play a similar melody to that song. I always thought this song was pretty clever of her. Now though, it says a lot.

You need ro also remember her and Justin were still only young. They were both put under a lot of pressure from a young age, their relationship was constantly all over the media, who knows who else was all up in their relationship at the time too, influencing whom knows what. We are only hearing one side to this too. Justin has also admitted to many past mistakes, that he regrets and states he was very arrogant back then. People are constantly on the blame Justin train for everything. We now glorify Brits past mistakes due to mental health, and Justin still cops backlash. For all we know Justin was suffering mentally too and suffered in silence, because back then and still now Men could be considered weak if they spoke up.

I hope that boy’s mother gave him a good long lesson on how disgraceful he was to speak about Britney the way that he did on Howard Stern, considering his mother 100% knew about the baby. Britney had been sexually harassed about her virginity in the public eye, and this guy goes and tells secrets that are not all his to tell to smear her.Britney had grace and kept their business private for many, many years. She told us in such an obvious way. I couldn’t imagine. I always thought the baby in this video symbolized something so much more. The lyrics “this songs my sorry” and “ I dream I see your face, it’s haunting me”.

It may well be what eventually drove them to break up, tbh. Every time she saw him, she remembered her regret, and her unborn child. I know I'd have a hard time staying in that relationship.

Or there could be hints to the abortion in the video but the song is still about the breakup. People just assuming now that the whole song was written for the unborn child is insane (and honestly if that’s the case, the lyrics don’t make sense). Also when it comes to video clips, it’s the director who makes the decisions of what happens in it.. and noone knew about that abortion except for her and Justin she said. They said the ending of the video clip was supposed to be something different (she died or sthg) but it was too dark so they changed it.

I cant watch this video the same now that ive read britneys memoir. She was so innocent and everyone just took advantage of her. yep, me too. I could never stand watching it because I felt like there was something more, something heart-wrenching, some dots that needed to be connected. just like her other songs that were actual cry for help. And I mean, I was not even a fan of hers. I just felt it so strongly. now it all makes sense.

I saw this video after hearing the story, I stopped myself from crying in vain. Dear sweet Britney, I'm so sorry about your experience. Today I'm watching your video with different eyes, now that I know something more about you, I see everything about your story again and I feel guilty watching the video and being a burden to you, or at least.

After all these years, I completely understand her break down in 2007. She was surrounded by users, by people who weren’t true to her. She is and will always be a sweet soul. I hope she is finding some peace and happiness as she tries to regain control of her life

I still remember the concert when she went on tour and hit Portland Oregon. She explained that she wrote this song and is debuting it, she was singing this song LIVE and with piano. She might have even been the one playing piano. It was so unlike all the other songs she performed that were understandably prerecorded and accompanied by dancing, glitz and glam. This was a serious song.
