British WW2 Military Gas Masks

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

British World War Two Military Gas Masks/Respirators.
In this video, I give an overview of the Mark 4 General Service Respirator with its Stockinette coating, The Mark 5 General Service Respirator, cheaper to produce using only rubber without the stockinette as well as including a microphone insert point, and lastly the Light anti-gas respirator, designed to replace the GSR masks in active service by providing a simpler, lighter mask with a side loading 60mm filter.
If you are interested in my British civilian gas masks there are several videos about those on my channel.
As with all World War Two gas masks, the filters are either confirmed to or highly likely to contain asbestos, while generally safe to handle and display, the masks should not be worn and then breathed through, as asbestos inside the filter could be inhaled leading to health problems.

KraznayaZima funny enough the british mk 5 was my first gas mask , and i was unaware of the fact that it had asbestos in the filter , so i figured id do a proper fit test and see if it still worked. Three days of breathing through this thing later , I get to a spot with wifi and do some reasearch on the mask. Needless to say i was kinda worried.

I was issued a mark 4 back in 1939 when I joined the British army. Very comfortable mask for the time. For some reason I always preferred it over the light gas respirator I was issued in 1944.

i got the mark 5 British gas mask with cotton in hose not on the mask itself in a small kit with missing items , i got it for 50 dollars at the markets and i look up and most of the history ,most of it is confusing but a mystery to me because not knowing i couldn't find or be shore of what missing items that came with the mark 5 with the cotton in hose and mine was Kenworth 1/42 ever made , and i found out one of my ancestors warn this during the war and he was a sergeant in Australia but he is a mystery as well , i wanted to use my gas mask in a film that I'm working on, but after realising i decided to make a replica out of a clay mold and use liquid latex to put over to get a rubber mask and gets some pieces that are very simular to the parts of my real gas mask .

Good video, your Mk4 is an early version as it has a flatter assembly on the front, The Mk2 was the first known mask called "general service respirator" and the mk3, Mk2 are near gone apart from the one in collectors possession as they were recyeld into mk4s, the Mk4 and Mk5 can come with Black or canvas hose it is believed this as because of parts or the black was easier to decontaminate. The Light anti gas respirator was used in 60s by British forces for a short while as the mask was seen as "not fit for NBC use" and the S6 was made. The British post ww2 light anti gas respirator had a black voice diaphragm and many were sol off to the Danish army and some version called a C3 export were sold to Canada and they became the foundation for the C3 (M69) respirator. Also the US had the M5 assault mask before the M9 which copies the British light anti gas respirator, and are very rare.

There was a number of different prototypes of the those GSR respirators, there was one which had a flappy valve at the front and one that had a hose that had two seperate filters attached onto it with one at the bottom and one in the middle. In regards to the baby respirator yeah it was a pump system which was also used on the hospital mask that you mentioned and also a very rare asthmatic mask which is know as the invalid hood/respirator. I was sadly outbid at the last second a year or so ago on ebay. German GM15s/16s are getting a little harder to get hold of now, especially if you want a nice one, but it seems the price of GM17 leather masks has dropped so if you're willing to make the investment you could get a nice mask and bad can for around £150-£200, but if you're looking for a nicer can with straps and paint your looking more into the £250-£300 mark.
