WW1 And WW2 Military Items That May Be Hazardous To Your Health

This video is just to inform you guys about items in your collection that could cause harm to your health if used inappropriately. They will not kill you if you have them in your house, but they can cause problems if you constantly put these chemicals in your body.

Beware freshly dug items. I bought some sketchy Stielhandgranate handles all AEG all same batch from fly by night Ebay france seller ... Grave robber. I got them they smelled of soil but we're well preserved. I assume they found a crate in a bunker. Mustard Gas is stable in an anerobic environment like a oil cloth lined crate underground. I washed the sticks. 4 hours later I developed yellow blisters on my finger tips that oozed pus for days and a few other places I lost 12 kilos in the next 8 weeks and felt awful. Its a rare and and crazy story but I verified it is possible with a friend and toxicologist plus heard a few similar takes from guys on collector boards. If not mustard gas the other major gases had persistant toxins like dioxin. So don't mess with relics dug by shady dealers.

Finally someone made a video on this topic Btw the Russian GP5 gas mask also has a filter with asbestos. A lot of people use this mask a a costume and since there is a lot around it is a cheap Halloween mask. In my opinion it doesn’t get enough attention. Great video👍

Why have a lot of people said that newer filters are safe because they were given charcoal? Charcoal has always been in filters, it's the pads that contained it. A second point that people confuse is saying the mask is dangerous. No its not. It is dangerous if the filter is more permanently attached and or it contains asbestos within the mask which is for specific masks

You don't understand how filters work. Charcoal is a separate filtration layer to the particulate layer, the particulate layer is the one that contains asbestos, if there is asbestos. It's not an "either/or" situation

Usually charcoal filters shouldn’t be a problem as long as the liner holding the charcoal inside isn’t punctured. In reality asbestos is the only problem, which is what you see with the later soviet gp-5 gas masks. As long as they don’t have an asbestos filter, they’re fine

Good video. I think a lot of people don't know this stuff an need to. Though I'm pretty sure the British gas mask filters used Asbestos too. I say this for two reasons. One is to make what you said more accurate. They used Asbestos for a lot back in the day and it made a great filter. 2. Is that breathing through that filter would be even worse becasue of it. I could be wrong but as far as I know all Great War filters (both of them) used Asbestos filters and of course former USSR ones most likely are too so don't use the filters you buy with the GP5 kids. All in in all great video you've got some cool stuff there.

Enamel used om the Commonwealth canteens is not the same as enamel paint! Enamel paint will not crack or chip. Those are both different things with a identical look. The enamel on the canteens used is nothing more than glass. It is still used on cooking ware. Contrary to popular believe fine glass particles will not kill you. And although rust is not attractive, it also will not kill or harm you. Everybodys blood will contain iron. That's why dried blood turns brown.

Jesus these comments are a clusterfuck of idiocy. The information is very lacking and downright wrong here. The British MK.V only had 3 types of cannisters that contained asbestos over a short few years of it's service, that was the Type E cannister, the earlier Type A training cannister and Type D didn't contain a particulate layer, so no asbestos, later prototype Type F and G contained grass pulp, and the Light Anti Gas Respirator had a Resin wool layer rather than a crocidolite wool layer. The German civvie is also not asbestos but rather a fabric absorbant pad. The asbestos was a rumour started by Weaponsandstuff93. Since the SBR and Type CE was developed before the use of particulate filters, they won't have asbestos either. Please do some valuable and credible research before blurting out things.

@@crance5774 I agree that the VM40 doesn’t have asbestos and the ring is more of a cotton like object to absorb sweat, I do feel like you could of given more proof than “Oh ho ho it doesn’t absorb sweat” after being asked if you have any more info. Though truthfully there is no tests to confirm that there is asbestos in the ring, there is no proof to say there isn’t asbestos either. If there was asbestos in the ring most likely it would be a much larger topic. While I agree that the ring isn’t asbestos, you still could of gone into more detail

Just don't wear the gas masks longer than 2 hours, 1 hour is little spooky but 30 minutes or less you should be okay.

Soldat1917 not sure what you mean. Wearing the mask for any duration could be hazardous to your health. There is no time limit to wearing it safely.

@@worldwarguy459 Well, my grandfather worked In a factory where wearing a gas mask was needed and because asbestos people died, but because he didn't wear it for to long he was fine. So you can wear for a short amount of time maybe 5 minutes.

It's dangerous enough that it's not worth the risk in my opinion.
