@Zack Smith Japanese cars are under featured and under performers. A great exemplar would be the fact that Toyota uses in its sports car, the supra, a BMW engine. So they can make unstrained simpler things which inevitably last longer without problems.

This trio deserve recognition for promoting British automotive engineering worldwide. Yes, the are not perfect. But you could not deny their contribution to British automotive industry.

Top gear is hosted by the BBC, who are linked to the government, the funds basically come from taxes to do this sort of stuff, and I don’t think anyone in Britain would decline an offer like this anyway, seems like free promotions for your vehicles

Holy shit. I'm German and right now I feel like singing "God save the Queen". This is a wonderful and marvellous display of Britain's achievements. Think of all the preparations necessary to pull this off - all the administrative and logistic work in the background. This is not only a proud and lovely camerashot, this is a piece of beauty. Furthermore it's also a meeting of times with all the vintage buildings, the old trees and of course the Palace coming together with the works of a new millenium. There are not many TV shows in the world who could pull that one off, but the BBC did it. Kudos chaps, very very well made!

And they didn't do it out of any feelings of friendship - in fact the first thing they did, on the lend and lease agreement, was to sail to south africa and take every last pound of british gold and diamonds they could lay hands on. And they also used their political and economical power to weaken Britain's power overseas in every way they could. Let's be honest - the yanks love to paint themselves as the saviours of the world, and they did play a big part, but they did it for their own ends. Not from any desire to help others. They made damn sure Britain paid for every last bit of aid they got, in fact the last payment was finally made in 2006 I believe. As a side note, the Russians never paid a single cent for any of the materiel they got from Britain and the US. Interesting.

Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls Royce, Bentley, McLaren, MINI, Morgan, Triumph - Britain still builds some of the greatest, most iconic vehicles today. Only Germany comes close.

Watching this live on TV when it was broadcast gave me actual chills and made me pretty emotional. Seeing all those beautiful, iconic vehicles lining one of the most iconic streets in the world - what a sight to see. If that doesn't make you proud to be British, nothing will.

I really don't understand why some people still call our Royal Family German. Our last monarch born outside of Britain was William III in 1650 and he was Dutch. The spouses obviously came from all over the place and that's why all of Europe's Royal Families were related but for us the last spouse of the monarch that was born in Germany was Prince Albert in 1819.

Heartwarming. The Brits have made enormous contributions to the motoring world. My Lotus is truly a special machine.

I will say this, that trio pulled together some of the most amazing moments period. What a life all three of them have had traveling across nations.

i have watched this video and a copy of this episode a lot of time. it never failed to give me a smile and tears of joy As far as I concerned this is the canonical ending of Top Gear

The ting with the Germans or Japanese is that we all KNOW their car industry is huge. It is 'dead' in the UK, but this proves Britain still makes a LOT of cars here.

Those horses are assembled in Sunderland from boxes shipped in from Germany and Japan, but our workers are skilled enough to know that the legs go on the bottom and the head is at the front

4:48 gives me chills everytime, one of my favourite ever moments in top gear

so i was working in milton keynes that day when they rolled out the F1 cars. it was tremendous.

the amount of respect I have for Britain is uncountable!! still can't believe how special and awesome that country is!

0:26 this track makes this episode feel alive, it has something other shows don't when paired to the actions of the clip. It reminds me of the beginning of the summer holidays when school ends, that's the aura I get for some reason.

In an earlier episode, James actually admitted that he used to drive buses in central London when he couldn't get journalist work.

One of the greatest moments in British tv for me.

I legitimately got goosebumps from watching this

I'm not British, but they worked made me tearing up...amazing!!!

+HazardousFromage yes I know, but hiring all those vehicles would still cost a lot and they also had to close off the mall to shoot the film wh8ch would've taken some convincing and more money. and you've got all the administration costs and staff needed to organise something like this

You don't pay to hire vehicles for something like that, you ring up and say 'we're making a film promoting British Automotive Manufacturing for the BBC, around 22 million people will see it and it will be filmed on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace,' would you like to be in it? To which all of those companies say 'Yes, absolutely, on what day and what time do we need to send our samples and representatives?' No company in it's right mind would turn something like that down over the cost of shipping a few cars and a couple of guys to move them around.

They barely paid anything for the cars, they had the compmay's do it, as they were showing of the cars. But top gear paid for the fuel and the tax
