Costco sells a few things at a loss to get you in the store. Their rotisserie chicken is delicious, twice as big as what you find in a regular grocery store, and $4.99 (sometimes up the $9.99 in a regular grocery store.). The fast food gets you in, sated, and the good feeling of getting a good deal. Then you take that happy mood and go spend more $$$ in the store. Deviously brilliant.

Costco member here. I think standard membership is $60/year, I pay $120 for executive. Petro/gasoline is super cheap compared to gas stations. On day of release regular 87 octane is $3.09/gallon, premium 93 octane is $3.65/gallon. Average in my area for regular is $3.39/gallon. Costco in general sells fairly cheap, not more than a 5-10% markup from wholesale prices. There market research shows that if you carry 1 or 2 items of a style of product you are more inclined to buy, where if you go to a regular store for a say "soda/coke/pop" if you have figuratively speaking hundreds of choices, you will generally leave buying nothing. So they select 1-2 higher quality items for sale. Food court awesome. 14 inch pizza for $10. A slice ofpizza is$2, a hotdogs withdrink is $1.50. Its cheese or pepperoni but it is good for a low cost. I have found really good wine there, and got at the time of it just being released an MSI GE76 Raider for about 30-40% less than regular retail (and it has all the bells and whistles). Important thing is occasionally you will see something priced at .97 (only identifier its clearance). Apart from gass i go maybe twice a month.

I worked at a Costco in Scottsdale Arizona for a Christmas season one year. I was very impressed with their business acumen. They treat their employees well, and generally pay a little higher than other stores, but you WORK when you're there. Everything runs like a military operation and they don't sell anything that doesn't fly off the shelf. There's no sitting around and lazing about. I know lots of people who have worked at Costco their whole adult working lives. They are famous for sending their employees to school to learn how to run a specialty area (hearing aids, optometry, pharmacy, food court, auto tires, car sales, the list goes on and on). They'll hire doctors or pharmacists for the jobs that require them, but they'll train employees to manage the area. When I was in Scottsdale, it was the store that sold the most Christmas poinsettia plants in the entire country. My job was to run back and forth with a hand-operated hydraulic jack with 2-tiered pallets filled with huge poinsettias in their pots pulling them out of the warehouse and depositing them in the store, then bringing back an empty pallet and grabbing another full one. That store had 2 enormous semi-trailers every day delivering only poinsettias already packed onto the pallets. I was running the whole day. It was fun; my friends called me the poinsettia queen.

Nobody pays the theoretical retail price for that stuff. Moderately expensive places that want you to *think* they're budget friendly (e.g., Kohl's) put that price on the tag so they can have perpetual 30% off sales and still turn a tidy profit. Places that are actually budget-friendly, sell it for less than that "sales price" even when they're not having a sale. (And even then, at least half of what you're paying is for the logo. If you can't find a polo shirt for less than $15 you aren't trying.)

Costco is what is called a "warehouse" or "big box" store. You have to pay annual membership to shop there. A similar store is Sam's Wholesale Club, owned by WalMart. In general, variety of a particular thing is limited, but at Costco, quality is usually pretty good; not the top thing on the market, but mid-level or higher quality. (Sam's tends to have a bit cheaper quaility.) When I was shopping for a household of 4, I shopped at Costco almost exclusively. Now that I am a household of 1, I still shop there, but less often. For example, the beef cut I buy usually comes in packages of 4 to 5 pounds or more. I I bring it home and immediately freeze most of it in 1- or 2-serving packs. I try to keep my serving sizes between 4 and 6 oz, so 4 lbs of steak is about 16 servings. :)

Costco is the same price basically. Its $60 for the basic membership I paid $120 for executive. With the $120 I get a percentage of everything I spend back at the end of the year. So it basically covers the price difference. We have Sam's here too I used to be a member at both but I like Costco better so I dropped Sam's. They are building a BJ's here now too not sure when its supposed to open. Never been to one but can't imagine its really much different than the others.

@@JesseLJohnson BJ's also has a "premium" tier, or whatever they call it, that works the same way. I don't know anyone who shops at Costco, since we don't have any here in Rhode Island. The nearest one is 45 minutes away without traffic in Massachusetts. We had Sam's Club but no longer; the closest is even farther away. As an experiment, BJ's opened a first-of-its-kind "Market" mini-store just 5 minutes away from me. It's smaller than my supermarket and almost all of what they sell is what you'd find at a supermarket (no patio furniture, TVs, clothing, tires, etc.) I think it's great and hope they open more of them. Obviously, some things are not sold at this smaller store, so I still make the occasional trip to the regular store that's a longer drive. In 2010, I spent 2 weeks on Kauai, in Hawai'i, a once-in-a-lifetime trip. We bought a one-year membership at Costco just to do one large grocery shopping. It was cheaper than the other options (I remember paying more than $6 for a half-gallon of milk at the convenience store near the resort). That Costco was at least double the size of a BJ's store.

Costco is great if you buy 50 pound bags of rice , 12 packs of canned soup, 24 can cases of soda,48 roll packages of toilet paper, etc , etc .They do have good prices on reasonable sized packages of meat, cheese, and produce . Ours doesn't have a lunch counter. Costco also gives out cash rewards if you use your Costco credit card . We use ours to buy gas for the car and get 4% cash back on that

Costco has great deals but for most things, you have to buy in bulk and if you are a single person or don't have a lot of storage in your home, that's a problem. Most people don't do regular grocery shopping there but will pick up some grocery items when they go. Neighbors often get together to make a Costco run and then split up what was purchased so they don't have so much to store. Costco is a massive warehouse that has just about everything you could want, as well as services such as travel, Optometry, Audiology, pharmacy, automotive, etc. and a food court with dirt cheap prices. There are different levels of membership, the cheapest right now is $60.00.

After the United States decided to adjust the liquor laws, Costco got on board and now sells booze for a big mark down. The pumpkin pie is huge and phenomenal. The twenty packs of huge muffins is cheap. I just bought a 75” LG flat screen for about $450. Find one

They have a Costco in England but you have to be in a profession like a nurse, teacher, police etc, to have a membership or if your company supports it and can get you a membership. My brother works for DHL over there and has one through his company. But he said they don’t have half as much as what we have and their bulks are smaller.

Costco is a membership store, however you do get a rebate check at the end of your membership year. If you bought something expensive like a washer and dryer, refrigerator, etc your rebate check can be quite large. A regular membership is $60.00 per year and an executive membership isn$120.00. Even single people shop at Costco, if you have the storage space you can buy paper products; toilet tissue, facial tissue, paper towels, etc, also personal care items; toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc. Many of their store brand items (Kirkland) are actually made by big brand names, for instance batteries are made by Duracell. Their rotisserie roast chicken is an amazing $4.99 for a giant chicken, in the grocery store a smaller one is double the price. The food court items are really inexpensive, and they taste good. They also have excellent prices on big appliances, as well as small ones like vacuum cleaners, microwaves, etc. In Washington State they have a liquor department. Their gas prices are amazing, my savings on gas alone during the year probably covers my membership fee.

Sam's Club and BJ's are the same concept as Costco. They're all membership warehouse stores, where you buy in bulk to save money. So, you have a choice between the 3, they carry the same type of merchandise, and for a moderate membership fee, you can shop there for a year. My daughter went to Sam's last week and came home with a nice inflatable boat, with a Bimini top and oars (it can also be fitted with a trolling motor) for less than $300! We used it last weekend, and it is GREAT! VERY sturdy, and will seat 3 people. So, you'd be surprised at what you can find - and how little you'd pay - at these warehouse clubs! Costco membership is $60/year. Right now both Sam's & BJ's are running specials for $20.

Costco member here - I live in a semi rural part of Colorado in the mountains. We head to Costco every other month or so to stock up on things in bulk. Stuff like peanut butter, frozen meat, chips, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. I know some folks who live so close to Costco it makes sense to go there for their weekly shopping but its an hour drive or so for us. We realistically don't even have to but we have had the membership for like...20 years so why not? If you want to buy something in bulk Costco is just outright cheaper. And Costco's brand Kirkland is actually very very good.

I get all my gasoline and do most of my shopping at Costco - the exception being fresh fruit and vegetables. We are only a two person household so we can't get through the produce before it goes bad. However, it has great deals on many things. 20 pound bag of jasmine rice for $17, for example. For other things, it's the quality that I can't find in my neighbohood grocery store. My favorite coffee, while more expensive than other coffee in the stores, is way less expensive than finding the one I like online. We also got our patio set, washer and dryer, beverage refrigerator, a couple of floor lamps, a buffet, a dining room table and chairs for 8, a couple of computers for our business, plant pots, potting soil, plants for my garden, and dog treats and toys. And a whole lot of alcohol - the Kirkland brands are typically very good. The clothing is hit or miss, there's no where to try things on but they have an excellent return policy. And you can't discount the enjoyment factor of a good treasure hunt - you never know what you're going to find.

AND they are out by the drink machines..... and the pizza slice is $2... also, you can get the whole 18 inch pizza for $10. sometimes when we're already out and on the way home and we don't feel like cooking when we get home, we'll just call ahead and order a pizza and pick it up on the way home....

First place is the cases of Butter(scotch) Beer for $9.95 last holiday season-it was just as good as the Butterbeer you buy at the Harry Potter Parks, a 12 oz cup for the same price as the 12-bottle case😂 I love buying my GoPro cameras for my free diving trips at Costco(there is always a couple of updates between trips, so I need the latest model). I have a medium/large family, so it is a weekly grocery run for us, and fortunately, our Costco is a whole 8 kilometers from my house👍🏻. Come to Utah when you are here and we will show you Sundance(Robert Redford’s ski resort where he started the film festival) and I will let you use our Costco card to go wild, plus, I wouldn’t be surprised if Costco has the option for you to send your purchases to your home a’la Amazon mode.

There are 29 Costcos in the UK, mostly in England. IF you have a friend who has a card, you can NOT use their card as they check the photo on it at the check out, but your friend CAN buy you a CASH CARD. That cash card allows you to enter the store and to buy things (even over the value of the card)... but once the card has no value, you can't keep using it. You can also go shopping with your friend, but the FRIEND has to pay for whatever they buy. Of course you can either pay your friend up front or reimburse them afterwards, but the MEMBER or Cash Card holder has to be the one who pays. Literally, if the husband has a membership and the wife tries to use his card, it's not allowed. A lot of their profit is in the membership. I have the executive membership and usually get more money back than the cost of the membership. Standard memberships do not get cash back at the end of your year. You can switch the level (eg: go from Standard to Executive) at ANY time at the membership/customer service desk.

They probably could have asked any American in the store if they would temporarily adopt (sponsor) them for their one time visit by using their membership card at the register. Occasionally family members and friends will loan out their membership cards to each other. The cards just authorize the purchases to be scanned. Sometimes customer service will give a promotional day pass with a temporary membership card to entice a return trip. Shopping at Costco is typically a four week supply for the price of two. Bulk shopping is why our refrigerators and freezers are so large and versatile.

They buy in bulk lots and pass the cost savings on to members. So most stock rotates heavily. They also have Kirkland branded products, but if you go in looking for a very specific item, you probably won't find that, but you'll likely find a similar alternative at a big cost savings. And it isn't just groceries. Eye and ear care, tires, prescription drugs, insurance pools, car sales at fleet pricing, vacation packages, full jeweler services, financial planning services, and referral discounts to professional services like auto mechanics, real estate agents, brokers, contractors, home cleaning services, etc. For some people they can save the $60/yr membership in the savings from a single month of prescriptions. The goods are problematic if you don't have lots of storage, a business, or a family, but there are lots of other membership benefits.

So instead of carrying say all the different TV brands and models, they will only carry the top rated 4 brands/models, and because they buy in such large volume they are able to sell these items for the lowest prices. They are no frills warehouses. You can buy electronics, clothing. Mattresses. Fine jewelry and designer handbags. Appliances, books and cd's fresh produce, household stuff. One of the best places for budget alcohol, especially their store picks. For instance their current bourbon store pick is made by Barton and carries the flavor and feel of their 1792 brand for half the price. Costco's store pick of their scotches and Canadian whiskey are also very good for the price, just $20 or less for a 1.75 liter bottle. The Kirkland brand of most of Costco's products tend to be very good especially the hotdogs. Funny story about the hotdogs, at a point they couldn't afford to keep the hotdogs at the low price they had been selling them for and the CEO came in and said "if you change the price of the fucking hotdogs I will kill you" so Costco built their own hotdog factory and saved enough on shipping costs to keep the price. In the food court the cost of a hotdog or pizza slice and a drink is $1.50.

These places require a membership card to shop in there. That's why they wanted to get a day pass. Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale are wholesale warehouse stores. This is "buy in bulk" shopping so everything you see will be in larger/multi-packs than you'd get in Walmart even. Sam's club basic membership is $50 per year and the premium is $99. We don't have Costco near me so it's Sam's Club for me. Yes Costco has 29 locations in the UK. Glasgow and Edinburgh are the closest locations to where you are I think since there aren't any anywhere in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in Ireland. Membership for you there includes an online shopping only subscription of 15 GBP and a basic membership of 33 GBP per year. Don't know if shipping directly to you would be worth it. We get free shipping if we spend a certain amount. There are three other types of memberships available to you but all have a set of requirements to see if you qualify except the online shopping only. Anything you can buy in a grocery store or department store, you can get in these places. YES the food is that cheap in Costco and also in Sam's. I'm not sure if BJ's has a food court. When Jolly went to Costco, they showed the menu board with the pricing to confirm it is that cheap. A macaron is a French sandwich cookie made with almond flour, whipped egg whites, powdered and regular sugar and can have a buttercream, jam or ganache filling. He thought that maybe Costco UK wouldn't have as much but from what I understand, they do. They have one in New Zealand and the family did a vlog of it and looked just big and stocked as this one.

Not everything is cheaper, and what is you just need to be sure you can store and consume it without any waste. And because there is a membership fee you basically have to commit to buying enough of your stuff from there to actually save plus for most it is a farther drive so fuel cost more for shopping there too. Same for Sam's Club and Kroger too.

We got our couch and television there. Twice a month we stick up on everyday items like toilet paper, meat, etc. I got the membership to save on new tires 😂

The Chicken Enchilada take-make meal is cream of the crop for premade meals. By-far my favorite thing there!

To your initial comment. Yes, with a but. You have to pay a membership fee. Okay this is ironic, I'm actually wearing those 8 pair for 8$ socks right now, cuz my mother is a Costco addict. Yeah, 3$ normally gets me a hot dog, a drink and a sundae when I have to go there with mom.
