I am from philly, and our cheesesteaks are unbelievably good. The secret behind them is the bread. It comes from a bakery that was started by an Italian immigrant family from italy who settled in the Italian neighborhood in South Philly. Amarosos Bakery still makes the rolls, and no other bakery can reproduce them.

Good timing, June 27th is Wawa Hoagie Day. I work part-time at The Constitution Center, which is the hot spot for the giveaway. Wawa makes thousands of hoagies - over 10 thousand - and give them away in front of the building. Another several thousand are given to shelters. They have to close an entire city block just for the lines. If anyone is in Philly, stop by the museum. Admission is also free that day, sponsored by Wawa

I've lived in 22 states across the country. One of the first things I do is search out the places that serve cheesesteaks. You can have it "wit" or "wit-out." That with or without onions. Usually, the 3 choices of cheese are Cheese Whiz, which is nasty, Provolone, or Mozzarella. Lastly, you can get them wet or dry. Wet is with more grease and dry is with less. Personally, I go for wet and let the sandwich sit in its sleep bag of foil for a solid 15 minutes for that grease to soak into the roll.

My daughter lives about an hour and a half from Philadelphia. I love cheesesteaks. It's not healthy food but who cares, it tastes so good. I've been to many cheesesteak joints in Philly. I'm on a quest to go to all the big/known restaurants. My favorite shop is John's Roast Pork in South Philly down by the river and near Interstate 95. Cheese Whiz is a processed cheese product. It's in a kind of smooth liquid form. Tastes like cheddar cheese. I prefer sharp Provolone cheese. A classic cheesesteak is simple. Chopped grilled steak, onions, cheese topping and a very good roll/bun. Nothing else is needed. Water Ice is so good in the summer heat. Philly gets so cold in the winter. My phone froze and stopped working. That's when a warm cheesesteak is great!

Easiest way to make authentic philly cheese steak at home is to get your butcher to slice up rib-eye as thinly as possible, and in a cast iron skillet caramelize some onions in butter, with salt and pepper, before adding your meat, and essentially "chopping" them together as they with a spatula while it cooks. Once your meat is cooked, add your cheese on top "I suggest provolone", and Italian sub roll on top of that. Cover with lid to melt cheese, then use spatula to flip the whole affair over right side up. And there you go, cheesteak at home.

South Carolina pulled pork barbecue cooked on wood with ketchup sauce or our special mustard sauce on a bun with baked beans, cold slaw, corn on the cob, onion rings, French fries, and banana cream pie for dessert or homemade ice cream, or peach cobbler is heavenly. 😊 each state has a specialty based on where the settlers came from.

You can get cheesesteaks elsewhere in the US, but Philly makes the best. Here in Atlanta, my wife and I go to Jersey Mike's, which is a national chain. They do the grilled shaved steak with your choice of cheese, and grilled peppers and onions are optional. They also do a chicken Philly with grilled shredded chicken instead of the beef.

Alright so I just wanted to point this out. At 6:20 when you question them selling out, it's probably not because of the beef. They order their rolls from a local Philadelphia bakery which most likely delivers a certain amount each morning. That's what they're probably selling out of because, as someone from the Philly area, the bread is crucial to getting it right. If you use a day old roll and the inside is stale, the quality of the overall sandwich will take a hit. They've definitely figured out what they can produce in terms of cheesesteaks and pizzas in a single day and not risk ordering too much product and have set their hours (11 AM-7 PM Wednesday-Sunday) accordingly which I can respect if they're doing so to ensure that they continue to put out a quality product given their workforce and other limitations.

Canada does a mean corned beef sandwich that beats a Philly in my opinion.I just don’t like how you get some steak unevenly cooked therefore harder to bite off from the melty rest of the sandwich. That provolone was killer though with peppers and onions 🤙🏼a hero in th diner

We have so many different cultures and nationalities of people that brings so many variety of foods with it and lends itself to experiment with different combinations of spices and flavors to create our own version of foods!
