All right the real reason that we do things different. We do the imperial measuring system compared to the metric system. It’s because all of Europe is the metric when the Christians protestants wear that were removed from Great Britain and sent to the New World, which is now the United States they declared that they will never ever do anything, the same as Europe that’s why we are completely different from European countries so when they all came over to America, we did the imperial standard system

@@neutrino78x …….well what she says it, that lemonade is supposed to be fizzy. I don’t know where she has had lemonade but it’s not fizzy in the IS because it’s lemons, water, sugar (or simple syrup). I have no idea what she’s on about but American lemonade is very simple and very perfect. You want fizzy lemon stuff, get a Sprite. I mean, I get it. You are obviously a fan and defend her but telling Americans having I voted stickers is just not necessary, is the most narcissistic thing. It’s really absolutely none of her business. The stickers remind others to vote and if you left work or school to vote, shows you went and voted. She can’t vote in US elections so she needs to just shut up. The fact is……I’m not even going to watch or comment on people reacting to her videos. It feeds the algorithm. When I see her, I’m just going to pass on by.

Blame the UK for why we call it soccer, its not our fault they changed the name. "While calling the world's most popular sport "soccer" is typically depicted as a symbol of American ignorance, the reason we don't call it "football" like the rest of the world is Britain's fault. The word "soccer" is a British invention that British people stopped using only around 40 years ago, The word "soccer" comes from the use of the term "association football" in Britain, and goes back 200 years. In the early 1800s, a bunch of British universities took "football" - a medieval game - and started playing their own versions of it, all under different rules. To standardize things across the country, these games were categorized under different organizations with different names. One variant of the game you played with your hands became "rugby football." Another variant came to be known as "association football" after the Football Association formed to promote the game in 1863, 15 years after the rules were made at Cambridge. Rugby football" became "rugger" for short, then "rugby". "Association football" became "soccer."

Like the game itself, the word “football” has foreign ancestors. Historians trace American football back to two European cousins, soccer and rugby. Both began as kicking games. Soccer- the most popular sport in the world - was originally known as “association football.” Newspapers seeking a shorter phrase began to refer to it as “assoc.” That name was soon shortened to “soc” and then grew back a bit to “soccer.” While rugby also began as a football game, in 1823 something occurred that changed the kicking game forever. A player named William Webb Ellis, instead of kicking the ball over the goal line, picked it up and ran it across. At first, observers didn’t know what to think. Eventually, the agreed it was a good idea. The game was played at the Rugby School and became known as rugby football, later shortened to rugby. Both soccer-style football and rugby-style football eventually found their way to America. What resulted was an American combination of the two games. It was until much later (1906) that forward passing was allowed. So because the American game was really just another form of the European football games, it too became known as football.

Most Americans, even children, can easily visualize the length of a football field. Lemonade is just lemon juice, sugar, and water, if you use carbonated (fizzy) water you’re making a soda, not lemonade. It’s a simple, refreshing drink. That iconic kid setting up a lemonade stand is trying to make a little bit of money and it kind of defeats the purpose if they are having to buy carbonated water. She doesn’t think logically and she’s very condescending.

Automatic transmissions are more costly to build, maintain, and repair. Manual transmissions are generally thought of as more sporty and fun. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I learned to drive automatic, floor-shift manuals, steering column-shift manuals, PIV belt-drive transmissions, farm tractor manual transmissions, electro-static clutch manual transmissions where there isn't a clutch pedal--you just put your hand on the gearshift and the transmission goes into neutral and you shift normally, split-shift trans-axle transmissions where you have a high range and a low range for every gear, electric forklift transmissions, zero-turn transmissions where you have two levers to steer with instead of a steering wheel... About the only thing I've never had to learn to drive are lorries and airplanes. As an old farmer, I recommend learning how to drive a manual first, then graduate to an automatic later on. --Dan

Due to the fact that over 90% of our cars are automatics, it actually costs more to get a new car with a manual transmission. In fact it's not even an option for most cars. Used cars are a different story because most people don't know how to drive them they're usually harder to sell and therefore cheaper, with a few exceptions where it's actually desired (high end sports cars and some off-road vehicles).

Second the BRITISH called in soccer before they switched to football.

    * Since we can order eggs "sunny side up" or "over easy", we can have our version of "dippy eggs & soldiers", without an egg cup, or egg shell. As far as the illegal eggs, she's referring to washed vs unwashed eggs. US requires eggs to be washed, to remove bacteria & prevent foodborne illness. When washing, it also removes a protective layer, so they require refrigeration. * "Soccer" is a British term, shortened from "Association Football" ⚽. American Football 🏈 became popular by the time the UK dropped Soccer/Association Football, & went with just Football ⚽ * Football fields are 100 yards. A yard is roughly a meter (0.9144 for 🤓). Saying something is X football fields is just to help people visualize the size. * "I voted today" stickers don't go bad or spoil if they're not taken by voters. The extras are saved for the next election. People that take them & wear them are proud that they voted, and silently encourage/remind everyone they see the rest of the day that it's election day. If it bothers Dianne that much, she's welcome to not visit 🤷🏻‍♂️ If she wants Sprite, order sprite. Grades - Final exams are weighted part of the overall grade. Our letter grades use various scales, most lenient is 10 points scale, 90-100 A, 80-89 B. Mine was A 100-92 B 85-91 C 78-84 D 70-77 69 or below Failed

She was young and wide-eyed and I think first came to America as a curious explorer and asked a lot of questions. Now that's she traveled a bit she seems to have come to some (wrong) conclusions. And I don't know if there was a bad breakup or what but seems quite negative and critical these last few months. Hard to say if that's just being Irish but for example maintaining service people are nice because of the tips is pretty insulting. I've got 15 years experience in bars and restaurants in 4 different states and the people I worked with were indeed nice people. She was "correct" about everything she listed... It's the "why" that got lost. The egg thing, for instance, is massively regionaly influenced. Half the styles she mentioned, are not normally available, all 50 states. The automatic "questions" goes all the way back to the 1950's. Auto, back then, equalled luxury. As the tech became more affordable due to economy of scale, it became a lux option everyone demanded. By the 1960's, it had become the new normal, baseline. Garbage disposals are based on the fact that the majority of American plumbing is based on larger internal diameter piping. Disposals are scary good, at tearing any kind of plant or animal matter in tiny little bits, easily flushed away by the water flow, into the sewer system. (If your home plumbing runs off of a septic system, off grid in a rural community for instance, you might not have a disposal because of the risks to the system)

The name of SOCCER came from ENGLAND we just use it. Linguistically creative students at the University of Oxford in the 1880s distinguished between the sports of “rugger” (rugby football) and “assoccer” (association football). The latter term was further shortened to “soccer” (sometimes spelled “socker”), and the name quickly spread beyond the campus. However, “soccer” never became much more than a nickname in Great Britain.

It just makes more sense to me to start with the index finger, since you use the thumb to hold the other fingers down until you need to raise them. I love a good scrambled egg or omlette. But making egg salad out of hard boiled eggs... just... that is the best thing ever. It's soccer. You can't change my mind. Also, it's a "football field long" means, 100 yards. Are you not the metric people? I thought you liked things in tens and hundreds. ;p Automatic is the best. I'm damn near 40 and have no idea how a manual transmission works. I better not go to Europe I guess. All I need is Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive. Thank you. Course work doesn't count as part of your grades across the pond? I mean, the finals here are a big part of your grade, sometimes up to 50%, but anything below 60% is a fail and if you didn't do any of the other coursework, you could 100% the final and you would not pass. I said "wait, what?" just as she was saying it. I use that phrase like ten times a day. Normally in Voices of the Void, but that's neither here nor there. That is NOT what "wait, what?" means. It does NOT mean "oh I wasn't listening to you" it's a call for clarification. As in "Wait, you said what? Could you repeat that?" it's just faster and funner to say "wait, what!?" I have seen the good and bad of "I want to talk to a manager". I've had to do it when there was a problem with my transaction. Mom did it when we went to Florida and the hotel room was not only not what was shown on the website, but was incredibly filthy. She talked to the manager and got the reservation canceled and refunded. Course we did have to drive around a lot to find a hotel that WOULD take a no-notice reservation for 13 days. We stayed there night one, I had to use the pull out bed in the couch. It was FULL of dirt, crumbs, a lost TV remote... I just... no thanks. And, I've seen karens blow up over not getting their entitlement and demanding to see a manager. Garbage disposals are not standard. My mother's house doesn't have one. We did when I was a kid. My apartment did have them, there's still a switch for it, but they took them all out because... well, more than one resident stuck their hand down there to grab something and propped themselves up on the wall and bumped the switch. The disposal is... think of it like a blender on puree mode. It blends everything into a fine paste that washes down the pipes with the water. Oof, this turned into another novel, lol

96% of Americans drive cars with automatic transmissions. In 2023, only 0.9% of new light-duty vehicles sold in the US had a manual transmission, and in 2024, there are only about 30 models in the US that still offer a stick shift.

My question is what makes her an authority about what is weird and what isn't?

Garbage disposals would definitely be standard here in America. Even apartments, AirBNBs, and some extended stay hotels have them. I know there are homes in America that dont have them, but I cant remember the last time I have seen a kitchen without one. That one is accurate. Also garbage disposals chew up the food waste into small pieces that can then flow out the pipe with the rest of the waste water from the home and back to the sewage plant. So you cant just put ANYTHING into them. Things you cant put in a disposal are things like bones, grease, non-food items, coffee grounds (can get tightly packed and clog the pipe), etc. 👍

I like my eggs over medium that means runny yoke but no runny whites. I think it also kinda implies I'd prefer my yoke cooked slightly rather than risk runny whites.

Who is Diane to tell us the "I voted" stickers are unnecessary? We like them. It also reminds other people to go vote. Yeah, everyone likes stickers. I don't tell other countries what's unnecessary for them so...😂

The US is quite large and varied. We do anything and everything a million different ways. Whatever works....
