It's no different than any other restomod, where a classic is "sacrificed" for modern amenities, handling, braking, etc. It only seems sacrilegious with a collectible like this '72 Satellite. However, there are a lot of other nice 1960's and 70's cars out there for cheap that nobody wants as a daily driver because 11 mpg and barge-like handling, no matter how stylish the appearance. Maybe this type of conversion can give a lot of old iron a second life? Maybe help re-launch the "Keep America Beautiful" movement of the '70s?

That thing becomes an absolute MONSTER, but it'll also throw you in a ditch as fast as you launch. Breaks all 4 wheels free a little too easily to be practical, I understand why Tesla doesn't let you turn it off normally. :)

battery mangent placement could have been better ( and other thing's ect. aka im not a complete hater but constructive criticism is something sometimes matters and welcomed my 2C ) as there's a lot of potential space wasted say in the trunk its all batteries now and no real room for real airport luggage 😉 as intended, i know as im working on hybridisation ( Tesla's motor core + tr6070 transmission + 8-3/4@3.2G and RB hemi ) on my 70 charger and im keeping the T-bars unlike him ps. side squirrel idea why didn't he use t-bar's ( F1 use's something similar to it ) on the back it would have saved space and work ok 👌 on the Tesla's subframe

Watched the dash amp gauge go to 1800A when Rich or Stevon floored the accelerator. If the Tesla motor runs at 300v nominally, then we're talking about 540kw or ~725 hp at the rear wheels. That's a muscle car! No wonder the rear wheels break loose.

It's a real shame there's a lot of 'car guys' who completely dismiss EVs! I think things like the Prius (Not even a BEV) gave them all a bad name from years ago. EVs got this perception of being underpowered, can't drive far, and just generally being an econobox. These days... Imagine someone putting the Plaid powertrain into some classic like this, that'd be an absolute MONSTER. There's some insane cars, I just wish people gave the platform as a whole a shot, there's a lot to love. It's just different. :) Big props to Holley for hosting the event, really helps bring the performance aspect to people's attention.

FORD GT40 so rather than preserving classic cars you’d rather them be scrapped because they should have gas engines? As much as I hate electric cars this thought process makes zero sense. Actual car guys would appreciate how much thought went into this build.

@@Marsupial2 I wouldn't destroy it but what is left of the original car in terms of engineering? No engine that was originally engineered and made by the manufacturer. No transmission that would of been paired by the engineers to be the best fit with the engine. Again the engine and transmission would of been chosen to go with the chassis. I'd assume the brakes and suspension will be upgraded. Interior will require new gauges. Wouldn't surprise me that the steering is altered. A completely different powertrain from a different manufacturer and many other non original components. So we are saving the bodywork and chassis. And that's it. Might as well rename it. No association with the original marque and model anymore

@@jstravelers4094 It doesn't have anything to do with change. If they want us to drive electric cars we have no choice. If that's the case bring out new models and create a legacy. If you want an electric muscle car then build a kit car or purchase whatever Dodge etc. make in the future. But please leave alone original cars. Sticking a Tesla motor in it is not preserving the vehicle at all. It's like repainting the Mona Lisa in neon with a moustache and telling everyone to just chill

Wow! I'm blown away! I loved the shape of the Plymouth Satellite. But I had a Valiant Custom. My best friend bought one used and got it repainted for 79 bucks at Earle Schibe. He had a blast with it and I don't know how he learned to deal with its handling, as is was a pig in turns. I drove it once and the stock suspension was sloppy and useless. Seeing how flat it corners and no front end lift when accelerating, is quite an achievement. Mopar muscle cars ruled in their day for styling. Road Runner, Challenger, Barracuda, etc.

I was the owner of a 1972 Satellite, my first car at 16. The original dash was far better, i cant believe he removed the dashboard light, one of its best features. I do love the electric drivetrain he put in it. My Satellite lasted until 1984, when the transmission was down to 1 gear. I was able drive it to the auto recycler and sell it for $50, then hitchhiked back to my college campus. It was overall a very reliable car, very well built.
