    New build houses have a bad reputation for the brickwork getting bashed up. Seen some horrors but I would buy a Stu Crompton house 👍

    Stu, Love your videos - learning a load from you. I'm no brickie, just an overly ambitious DIYer... currently working on a rendered blockwork extension at home. My architect has drawn up the window and door reveals as internal leaf of blocks turned in. Do you think you could do a short vid explaining how to do this without creating a cold bridge and perhaps some thoughts on other options for closing the cavity at openings? Proprietary cavity closers instead? Cheers Stu, look forward to your response.

    In America, the house is wood framed first and the masonry is laid to the outside. It's cool seeing it done differently. Very nice work👍

    That's how its done here for a timber framed building with brick veneer. These cavity walls are by far the most common method in the UK but timber framed are about.

    I live in New York city it's usually timber frame or 8inch clock filled with grout every 16 inches and rebar for house... high rise can differ I'm from Ireland done my trade in masonry back there then moved here the bricklayers from Ireland and the UK are top notch compared to the states as iv seen what it's like on both sides some guys here I donno how they have trowels in there hands 😂😂 love the work here no panic work getting done and its strike finish inside and out,tasty work as always back over the other side of the pond...👌👌

    Do you prefer the marshall jointer, rather than a barrel jointer? I made the switch to barrel and got a W Rose in silver

    very lovely video editing... btw, what kind of foundation is used here... as there are no rebars seen here for reinforcement, then how to overcome cracks in situation of different weather condition or earth movements? just curious.

    Stu, as a non-trade person, I've always wondered what plans you work from for the openings, etc. Is that something that is measured out for you as a bricky or do you have to do that yourselves from the plans? Also, where do you know to put the decorative bricks, is that shown on the plans too? Maybe you could explain some of the steps, from plans/drawings to the actual laying, in a future video.TIA

    The plans are usually drawn out by an engineer to make sure the house is structually sound and the asthetics/decorations side of things are done by an architect or the owner.

    Don't you need a cavity try in to perimeter over 1st block above dpc down to outer brick course on top of dpc with weepers? That's what I always draw on my working drawings anyway

    The gray ones are concrete blocks. Between the walls is rock wool thermal insulation.

    Stu - quick question. When these houses are designed, is there any thought put into the length of bricks and the bonds to end up with a half or full brick? how to you know how to do it so its even and not like a small piece of brick at one of the ends?

    Plans are a guide, Bricklayer’s can slightly adjust measurements so they better suit the brick

    Some bricks are different sizes like the red prick in the video are 211 mm and the yellow 214, this makes a huge difference and this is where a bit of experience comes into play. They are normally set out brick length but not always.

    Nice vid Stu. Top Tip - For the YT algorithm and add revenue, try and get your vids to be 10min+ to get the extra add run, see so many of your recent videos be just shy of it, not saying you need the extra add revenue but every little bit helps :D

    How come the insulation is tight against external skin. We have to have a cavity with insulation tight on inside skin, 50 mill cavity then external skin. Won't the rain penetrate the external skin and soak the insulation causing damp problems. Just asking
