Brian May appeared on BBC2 "Newsnight" taking part in a colourful discussion with Countryside Alliance, Jim Barrington, on David Cameron's underhand proposal to adjust the Hunting Act by "Statutory Instrument", which would make the Act ineffective and be a return to bloodsports - by the backdoor.

It's not the language used that is offensive, it is people trying to justify killing wild animals that I find offensive. I'm glad Brian May said his piece!

xjxism car A lot of people enjoy paedophilia as well, does that mean the majority of us that frown upon it should sit down, shut up and let them get on with it because we'd be forcing our beliefs on them? You would in fact be forcing your lifestyle on to other people if this ban does not stay in place, so 'hunters' and activists are on a par.

  • @Mewgrrful

xjxism car No, I was comparing 2 activities that people find extremely offensive, both being cruel and sadistic. If you consider me asking you a question based on your morals "attacking you" then you are too overly sensitive to be venting your opinion such a controversial subject. If the ban is passed then it takes this country completely backwards in time, it's uncivilized. It harms an animal that poses no threat, it's not for pest or population control, it's purely so pompous cretins can get their rocks off to disemboweling a small animal. Almost borderline psychotic.

***** I hope you don't actually speak like that in real life. You sound as if you've spent a total of 4 hours of your life in school. Foxes don't carry any more diseases than what you would find in your pet dog.

dyvanna1 Well, with all the goalpost-moving badgers do, horses would just get confused. They're all trained up for polo, you know. Tory logic also states that foxes are adept at evading farmers. Especially if they're called 'Boggis', 'Bunce', or 'Bean'. That's why specialised bloodsports enthusiasts are needed. Half-hearted speciocide just won't cut it.

What about some of the other politicians who are not Tory who support hunting, i.e. Labour politicians, Liberal Democrats and UkIP etc? It's not just the Tories who support hunting just as some Tories are against hunting. After such an unjust and somewhat spiteful piece of legislation introduced by Tony Blair's government, Tony Blair, the man himself and by his own admission openly admitted that the hunting issue was the biggest mistake of his political career. The truth is, how many Foxes has this draconian law actually saved? It hasn't saved one, in fact it has killed more Foxes with even more cruelty. It's hilarious that the so-called animal protectionists, animal lovers, L.A.C.S. and Brian May and his ilk actually proceeded in scoring a wonderful own goal and it's always the case that the animal suffers. These buffoons do more harm than good. (FACT!)

Excellent stuff. Need more Dr Brian May's in this world. This is excellent. Well done Sir! A wonderful performance, a type of forthrightness that Britain is woefully short of when dealing with issues of repulsive cruelty such as hunting with hounds! Cameron looking after his own again. Brian doesn't have to do this, which is why it is so good because he is totally committed to an end to blood-sports, not gaining personal publicity!

Well done Brian. I am 100% behind you on this and you said what no one else would have the balls to say on TV. THREE CHEERS and MORE !! My own view on this is:- This proposed amendment is nothing short of trying to bring back hunting with dogs for amusement and they are trying to make excuses to manipulate the minds of the public, and sadly some of the more 'simple minded' public, will fall for their bullshit. But lets ask ourselves this?:- 1. Why on earth do they need to flush out a fox? If it were there and stealing a farmer's chicken say, (for example), would that farmer already not be within his right to shoot it (instant death) . No ripping it to pieces with dogs. 2. What the hell is pest control anyway? If you all think about this, the poor fox is hungry and just wants a meal, to feed his/her family. Do we ourselves not all eat chicken and lamb (except vegetarians)?

And may I add (parden the pun) He is far more intelligent and wise, furthermore an Honourable Gentleman than Mr Barrington. Towards the point. how would you like to be terrifyingly chased, captured and physically ripped to pieces in your own envirnoment surrounded by bloody fools ?. I ask you !. ps, the hounds are not the fools.

I've spoken to RSPB volunteers at Lakenheath Fen about Foxes, and they said that Foxes are known to interfere with other wild animals. They try to make sure that places like Lakenheath Fen are not appealing to Foxes, and always try to give the rare animals (Common Crane, Eurasian Bittern etc.) a place to live that is surrounded by water. From what I know, the RSPB won't kill Foxes in the reserve, but they'd rather not have them there. I'm sure there are RSPB reserves kept for Foxes to have a fair chance too. Jim Barrington seems to talk utter rubbish!!! Edit: I would like to add, that Brian May is my all-time favourite guitarist, and Fox hunting in my opinion, in the way it is carried out, is not excusable! However Brian May, probably blinded a little by his love for animals, needs to understand that everyone has a different perspective. Some people actually think they are doing good, believe it or not! But there are some who do not give a damn! Then you get those who also back it up with lies and misinformation! Some people need educating.

I find the idea that the Countryside Alliance has a 'Welfare Consultant' as laughable as the arguments they came out with! But then, i couldn't expect more, of someone given a commission of justifying epicaricacic animal abuse. False dichotomies, and straw men (foxes?) are all we should expect of them, and all we got. "Your [Anti-Hunting Act] was successful but not as good as if we hadn't opposed it, so we might as well... get rid of it" - CA (Tory) logic "Our [war on drugs] was a complete and total failure, so we might as well... keep going at it, ever more persistently". Anyone notice a slight problem, in their mindset? #deranged

Slightly offended by his language? I was more offended by the insinuation that chasing one fox with around 40 dogs and a squad of macho "hunters" will stop the spread of disease amongst livestock.... but then again, as we are so tediously reminded by the pro hunt brigade, foxes are responsible every year for making another species extinct in Britain. Which is a bit of a shame because if that were true and also given how long foxes have been a species in the British isles they would be the only animal left in the isles. Still yet to hear how chickens have become extinct, bete noir of the fox. Also of note. I noticed with interested how Brian May was introduced. No mention of his scientific and academic qualifications. Perhaps they couldn't fit them all in the time slot.
