Brian May says that there is no balance in nature only change in nature. He highlights his view is that every ONE animal matters, not just looking at it from a species wide point of view. Any creature that has feeling is worthy of respect and care.
ABOUT BRIAN MAY:
Brian May, musician and astrophysicist, is most widely known as the guitarist, songwriter and occasional singer of the rock band Queen.
He was appointed a CBE in 2005 for services to the music industry and for his charity work. He earned a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College in 2007 and is currently serving as the 4th Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University. Planet Rock voted May the 7th greatest guitarist of all time, and he was ranked at No. 26 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. In 2012, May was ranked the 2nd greatest guitarist of all time by a Guitar World magazine readers poll.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY:
The Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. It has been established for 189 years, aiming to promote debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

What a fabulous human being. A wonderful, wonderful man. I didn't know about his laudable interest in animal rights until I saw this. I knew he had a PhD in physics and that he was a big chunk of one of the all-time great rock bands; but this important aspect of his life I didn't know. What a humane, unpretentious and highly gifted man he is. Thank you for posting this! I was inspired and deeply touched.

I would add to what he said. We don't have to make many assumptions about what animals feel. We share 98% of our DNA with all mammals as we ARE mammals. It's a strange assumption that we are somehow separated. We KNOW that the central nervous system of a cow, horse or even fish is almost identical to ours! We KNOW they feel physical pain in the same way we do. We also know that particularly mammals (and some fish) share many of the same emotions as humans. In this day and age, especially with our understanding, it's utterly repugnant that we still treat other species in the way we do. We can no longer use the excuse of ignorance! Needing people like Brian May to state what should be obvious is just a sign of how backward people really are! I have to finish by concurring that he is indeed a great guy!

I am not an ecologist at all, in fact I make fun of them, ( I recently became a vegetarian, but for health reasons, not for animals reasons)but having said that, Brian makes a brillant point about animals having feelings. I have 3 dogs, and they know when I am sad, they know when I am hurt, they are sad when I leave them alone to go to work, they are hysterically happy when I come back from work jumping on me and leaking me to death, I can see all the emotions of a human being in my own animals. and I am sure if dogs are like that, the other animals in the kingdom feel that way too.

Thank you Dr May. A genuine kind soul. We have a responsibility to treat all sentient beings with care and respect. Our "problem" is that we are not advanced or spiritually connected enough to comprehend what animals & plants feel. We have lost our contact with the Earth. We "protect" ourselves from the elements. Those of us with pets know they show the full range of what we call emotion. I've been sulked at for going on holiday (either filling or emptying of a suitcase), kept company through years of chronic and acute illness and comforted when my mum passed away just for starters. Watch any wildlife documentary. Animals feel loss. End of chat. We need to live with the Earth again. Peace and love to all.

rufio'smousse no it's fucking not. A baby antelope being eaten by a lion is natural, horrible yes but you have to know the ecological system to know why it's important. It keeps predator and prey under control. What humans do is fucked up, we breed chickens and inject hormones that are incapable for them to live. Their bones are not able to support their bodies because people demand less bone, more meat. They live in fucked up place because their is little regulation and care about what happens to them. It's disgusting. Comparing actual animal abuse to natural instincts of a lion is ridiculous.

The value I extend animals is that we should not inflict unecessary suffering on them. I think that's fair. Beyond that, I'm not obligated by neither mine nor society's standard to place the same value as I do a fellow human. Killing an animal will never be comparable to slavery and the holocaust (and if you think that seek medical attention), and will never hold the same moral weight as killing a fellow human.

I like Brian May he is great interesting points that he makes and it's very good to listen to him because then I study him in my point of view of animal rights activism I think that's kind of false animal rights activism is and I'll give her a reason why. I like to give my reasoning and I'm going to share with you now people say that you know that animals should have rights let me just stop you right there if an animal is supposed to have rights okay so does that mean we should have an animal vote does that mean we should allow animals to be in the Army and shoot people another example is a lion getting arrested for killing an antelope that was murder she is just stupid so so you're telling me that animals have the right to vote so you're telling me they have a right to bear arms they have a right to sit in Congress and everything that's bull crap that's stupid that's the most asinine bull crap I've ever heard in my life, and let me just explain it another way to as well if a animal goes and kills another animal you're not going to go out and put its arms behind its back and arrested and say you have the right to remain silent it's going to look at you and think what is this moron doing is that even going to think that it just eat you or like if you stuck a gun up to a dog's head it's not going to beg for its life it's going to look for its life that's just the kind of crap that goes on in this world. So somebody saying like Brian May himself is saying animals have rights no they don't have lights if animals had rights then they should have the right to vote then they should have the right to go into Congress then they should have the right to go into the army and they should have the rights to get arrested for killing another animal it's just foolishness it's just stupid ignorant foolishness doesn't make any sense so in my opinion on that because God said to Adam you will have control over the beasts of the field you will be higher than they will be because they're stupid animals are stupid like if I go to a gorilla and I flip it off it's not going to directly flip me off you have to teach it to flip you off or if I have a parrot and I say hello it's not going to say hello back you have to train it to say hello or it will listen to other sounds and then copy those sounds so or if a lion goes out and let's say eats a zebra they ate the zebra they ate the zebra there's nothing you can do about that. I don't like it as much as anybody else does so let's throw these little baby chicks inside of a grinder and kill them and eat them that's disgusting or lets you know take a Hogs nuts and pull them off that's just gross why would you do that to an animal but in my opinion we're supposed to eat the animal we're supposed to eat them we are supposed to eat them and many people have been doing it for billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of years we've been doing it for billions and billions and billions of years eating animals and killing them the same way except I don't believe we had grinders for chickens back in like 90 BC I don't believe that but Brian May is wrong in my opinion animals don't have rights to do anything they don't have any rights to do anything whatsoever they don't have any rights. Leslie my last point is we're not identical to animals that all animals are not identical to us nor will they ever be because let's say we're not identical to animals that all animals are not identical to us nor will they ever be because let's say a person went and murdered another person the person that murdered that innocent person is going to jail and then put on trial to see if he did it and then they have evidences and stuff like that they have a jury that go and talk about it and see if this man actually did this animals don't do that they don't gather around like a freaking cartoon and go hey you know this lion killed that antelope that innocent Antelope it killed him so now he's being judged by the high lion for killing the antelope that was our friend and we refuse to eat any other animal it's just stupid it's just like a cartoon the cartoon lion is a judge and then or like a crane is a judge and then the lion is the the culprit then you're not going to see the antelopes family sitting there wishing that he was dead that's not how that happens in the real world when animals kill another animal and they eat them for food that's how that works you're not going to take them the jail and you're not going to stick them up in front of a judge and say Hey you know you are in trouble you're going to spend the rest of your life in jail know if you tell a lion that is going to spend the rest of its life in jail it's stupid they're not going to understand you the animals not going to understand you

Also, "We hold these truths self evident" is from Thomas Jefferson, not Martin Luther King. Would be great if these animal rights people cared as much about human suffering as animal.

But like I said so everybody keeps telling me Oh yeah we're the same as animals or gorillas and humans are the same we came from Gorillaz let me just say something I believe in creation I don't believe in evolution because if an evolution we came from an animal then why is it that Jesus came as a human being how come God came down from heaven and he became the Lord Jesus Christ and the Lord Jesus Christ was a human and everybody that God made were humans and he said we will make humans from our image and then when God came down from heaven and put himself on the cross to die for the world and you know what I mean by that because Jesus is God come in the flesh and what I'm saying is and what was Jesus a rat no Jesus was not a rat he was not a monkey he was not a goose he was not a ferret he was not any of that he was a human being and that's who God created was human beings in Jesus is God so God created human beings out of his own image so that's what I'm saying it's just stupid it's false. So you're telling me that Jesus is King Kong and he looked and you said that humans look like gorillas I've heard several atheists say that to me it's full of s*** stupid we never came from animals ever we came from human beings that's where we came from where anybody gets the idea that we came from an animal this is where atheists will say to me all your Bibles mistaken it was not mistaken because God created human beings and Jesus or God coming down to this Earth as a human being instead of a monkey that's what it was he was a that's what it was he was a human being who died for the sins of the world that's who he is was he human and never says in the Bible that God came down as an ape in the Apes name was Jesus so his name is Jesus calling and in Jesus Calling apparently died for the sins of the world and died for all of ape manatee that's just stupid so you're telling me that my Lord and Savior is a gorilla when people say that hey you know if humans were made from monkeys we all came from apes no he didn't we never came from apes where do you get this crap at and you want to know where you guys get it Darwin atheist scientist and also and as a Christian man in my opinion Richard Dawkins is a brilliant man he's a brilliant physicist but he is also arrogant and he wants people to believe what he wants them to is a brilliant man he's a brilliant physicist but he is also arrogant and he wants people to believe what he believes and he's very rude and arrogant about what he says and as a Christian man I'm going to have different views and he is as a Christian man toward Brian me I'm not saying bye Amazing Atheist but my views as a Christian man toward Brian May are going to be completely different than him to it's going to be completely different so as a Christian man I'm just going to tell you this is completely false it's ignorant it's stupid even say that a human being comes from an ape that we all came from a monkey or a fish or something and I don't believe we came from fishes or Apes at all. or it's like these bug rights activists go out and say oh I don't kill the bug you didn't do anything to you let me just say something if a poisonous spider comes up and bites my son and possibly killed my son you're telling me I can't stomp its brains out all I'm going to so I'm just supposed of course I'm going to kill the thing because it Cayman killed my son and was poisonous against my son and killed it there's no spider that really did that I'm just saying this as an example but I'm what I'm saying is I'm not going to let just a random poisonous spider come up and kill my son and just stand there and let it hit him several more times and not stomp his brains out and in my other opinion is is when he said yeah we should be kind or animals and stuff yeah that's true we should be kind to our pets and everything that's true have you seen Cujo oh yeah and so you're telling me that if a dog gets rabies and it comes up and bites a human being in the human being gets rabies who fault was it the first place was it the humans or was it the dog it was the dog and what are we going to do to keep people safe from this dog that's easy we're going to shoot it and kill it so it does not kill other people and make them sick that would be the other reasoning that I have if a dog goes and has rabies and it goes up and bite somebody and gives that person rabies I'm not going to let it run around I'm going to shoot it.
