    What a great ride! I did a similar trip back when I was young in Alaska on a 1985 Ninja 600R. It's an 850 mile loop to ride up Hwy 3 From Anchorage to Fairbanks crossing through Denali National Park and up through the mountain pass and down into Fairbanks, stopped for pizza and a beer, and then countinued down Hwy 1 on the old highway through Tok and Glenallen to get home to Anchorage. It was July, so there was 22 hours of daylight, and it was perfect weather, hitting 100f in Fairbanks due to the extremely long days. And there was only two State Troopers at the time, so only one on each side of this 850 mile loop of two highways, so as soon as you passed by one you knew you had zero speed enforcement until the very end of both legs of the journey. Took 13 hours (30-minutes of that was lunch), but I was flogging her pretty good wherever applicable. I like to feel that I'm was and am a gentleman sports tourer rather than a total gonzo sports rider, so I try to not be a nuisance to slow-moving RV's, as I don't want to spoil anyone's hard-earned vacation time with my two-wheeled antics, or risk their safety, of course, but I only had to pass a total of 20 vehicles in the whole 850 miles, and half were tractor-trailer rigs, so I had it mostly to myself the entire ride. :) Two years later, I drove an old beater 1967 Chevrolet pickup truck with a 235-cubic inch greasy 6 (inline 6-cylinder that were notorious for blowing out oil from everywhere) from Denver, Colorado to Anchorage, Alaska up the AlCan Highway through Canada. I drove the last leg of that journey from Whitehorse, YT in Canada, straight through to Anchorage, Alaska in 12-hours, about 750 miles. My butt never forgave me. :) Full disclosure: I drove for a living for 20-years up in Alaska, and 12-hour days on the road for work puproses, plus another 3 or 4 on the motorcycle every day in the summers was the normal day to day for me. So I love long rides, and I am a definite sucker for the kind of epic rides like yours was. Great stuff! Seeing actual vids of riders going for it, and doing it, really inspires me to hit the open road, so thank you for sharing such an epic ride! And I really enjoyed your Z900RS ride, too. :)

  • @KaiserWheelHelm

    @KaiserWheelHelm

    7 жыл бұрын

    Barry Richardson thanks I'm pleased you're enjoying them.. the toll tag can be ordered from www.saneftolling.co.uk/ they are car tags but you can use them on a motorcycle.. in the video I mentioned using the correct lane when you go through the toll. I'm unsure how the tag system recognises whether it's a bike or a car that goes through all I know from reading through the text on the sanef site is, on a bike you should not go through the height restricted lane (for cars only) because you will be charged car rate. motorcycles can use any other lane including a truck lane and be charged accordingly.. It's a useful thing, I wouldn't say it's essential but it stops all the faffing about looking for the correct change or using your credit card at these tolls. you then get billed from the account you set up at the end of the month. hope this is helpful and thanks for the feedback it's really appreciated

Like you I am 46 and I feel that getting such a fast bike could get me into trouble that you just don't need. I sold my fireblade for safety. Well, Honestly it all depends on your age. I did 1800km from Croatia to Poland when I was 22 on a Fazer 600, no problems, pure joy. 1400km when 28 from Paris to Warsaw on Fazer 1000, recently when I was 32 and I had to do 1000km on much better and more comfortable bike (SuperDuke GT) I was not happy :) Currently my daily maximum limit before riding for fun becomes anoying is around 800km and I think it will only get smaller as I age.

    @@KaiserWheelHelm Well, I would not attempt to do it on a sportbike for sure :D But IMHO there's really nothing practical in doing so many km anyway - you don't see much more than the highway and it's actually not very safe. GS is rather boring to ride on a highway as well, it adds useless millage and wear to the bike which starts to matter a lot after the end of the warranty. Last year I was driving around Spain but I shipped my bike in a van with 3 other bikes of my friends, it was 500 euros per person both ways (Warsaw to Malaga, 3000km one way) and it saved us a weak of riding on the highways. Maybe I'm getting old and spoiled but I really enjoy doing the 300-500km offroad on a gravel backroads,. It still takes the whole day but it just lets you focus on a different tempo of riding. I would like to note that this changes much when you go east (Russia and further) or south east (Balkans, Turkey) - than even a normal road becomes an adventure :)

    @@dexio85 Yeah I get you.. I just did this for something to do, a spur of the moment thing discussed in the pub the night before, not something I would normally do. I agree on the van and thats something I have been contemplating myself. I'm making some changes this year with bikes, still keeping the GS because the wife loves it, but thinking of getting a KTM SDR (if I can get the money together). if I do that, then a van makes sense. throw it in the back and get it out when the roads get interesting.. those French toll roads are just a means to get to the places I really want to be ;0)

    Made my mind up after a discussion with my mates in the bar the night before. Plus I had an Italian biker say I'd never do it. Suppose it was a bit of a personal challenge.. like you said fairly easy on a bike like the GSA. The tag is supplied by Sanef tolling (link in the description) no faffing involved with gloves, money, cards.. The Toll card is really aimed at cars but as you can see easy to use on a bike, The TAG company needs to look at making it better for bikes if i'm honest. Yeah the crazy things we do. did the Bol D'or in 95 on a RD350. that was a character building journey, not in one hit I will add. ;0)

    Oh well that explains a lot, a challenge from Italian to prove them wrong yet again, still your journey down looked fun! I forgot mention that it pissed down all the way back to my door from Munich! I have done most of the passes now, the last couple on a GS, probably the best bike for the job powering from hairpin to hairpin, a lot easier and more enjoyable than before on a sportsbike chasing the revs.
