    Thanks for the great video. Regarding the daily clear water back flush - I agree it's time consuming to do it 6 times, but why not do an automatic 'clean cycle' but without the cleaning tablet. This will do the wortk for you in 6 minutes - daily or weekly as you prefer

    When I had my Sage Oracle I done a clean cycle every night after my last cup of coffee. I just done a clean water cycle and once every two weeks I done a clean cycle with a Caffiza tablet. I had my machine for nearly 3 years and it sold no problem, person who bought it still does the same, machine still running perfectly.

    Thank you for these maintenance videos. Even with this maintenance, the Oracle Touch is easier to care for than most. I had a Gaggia Classic a few years ago and you need to be mechanically inclined to maintain it. The Oracle Touch is much more user-friendly.

    Thanks for the wonderful contents. I,m wondering if you’re supposed to be changing the single and double filter depending the single and double shots you’re making? I noticed the amount of coffee dose is the same and only the amount of water changes. thanks

  • @CoffeeWiser

    @CoffeeWiser

    You are correct, since the single and double buttons control the length of extractions (25s for single and 30 for double by default), only the amount of water dispensed changes. I’ve never used the single filter basket. From what I understand from lots of forum discussions, it is less consistent, thus more difficult to get a good espresso from the single basket. Also, I am not sure when to use a single basket: cappuccinos are two ounces, so you need the double basket for that. A 12 ounce standard latte uses 2 ounces of espresso as well, so again double basket. Since I use only the double basket, I don’t use the single shot option on the screen because the brew time is too short (25s) for a medium or light roast (that is mostly what we drink). It would be fine for dark roast. For medium and light roast, you definitely don’t want your extraction to stop at 25s, medium roasts need between 25s and 30s and light roasts even longer extraction. What you can also do is easily customize the single dose button and double dose button to be exactly the amount of time you want. It’s in the settings.

    Thank you for providing such excellent and detailed instructions. I descaled and changed the filter in my machine yesterday for the first time (new machine). Today it will not brew the coffee and the water tank continually empties. It empties above the tool tray area. I have tried the troubleshooting in the book that accompanies the machine but to no avail. I wonder if you have any suggestion that might solve this problem please? Many thanks.

    Thanks for the worthwhile review :) I am also a happy owner of a BES990. How often do you change the water filter? I'm living in a area with high water hardness.

  • @CoffeeWiser

    @CoffeeWiser

    4 жыл бұрын

    With high water hardness, you should change the water filter every 3 months, and descale every 3 to 6 months (probably closer to 3 months). If you have set your water hardness level in your machine, then your Oracle Touch should tell you when it’s time. If it doesn’t then between 3 and 6 months. Have a great day!

    Might want to put a kettle on at night and fill the machine up with that in the morning, that way the the vast majority of hard water limescale will be in the kettle not the breville filter, not sure if it's possible to adjust water hardness to coffee type/roast on the breville, but if it is potassium bicarbonate is awesome, especially for light roasts.

    Thank you for your comment. Both machines are great, and the internals are the same. Having the touch screen is really nice I have to say, and makes customization of drinks and maintenance much easier, but you will get equal quality of drinks from both machines. Also, I think the Oracle has a volumetric setting in the hidden menu (to shots by specific volume, instead of time or by weight). The Oracle Touch does not have a volumetric option. I think it really comes down to if you want to spend the extra money for the fancy screen and the convenience it offers. I hope this helps. Have a great weekend!

    Howdy! I am changing machines ( Pro to Oracle). Took 2 months! Good Grief!! I don't see anything about emptying, washing and drying down water tank with paper towel/towel. It can get gross in there quickly. Appresh your input, and on tank.

    I recommend washing the water tank at least every time that you change your water filter. I mention that in the water filter video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mJ-VzKiHqarYpbg.html). But I like your thinking, washing the water tank should probably be a monthly task. What do you think?

    To expect anyone to do the back flush five times a day, after making even a single cup of coffee, is absurd.

  • @petegalindez9961

    @petegalindez9961

    Agreed. I do it as often as I can though. I’ve had my Oracle (the original, not the touch) for 8 years now. I had issues with the steaming and brewing in after about 3 years. Breville provided me a no cost box to mail it back (free), and they returned it back to me in perfect working condition. I had to do that again after about the 5 year mark (they serviced it free of charge again!). Since then, I’ve been doing the daily flushes (twice a day since we have espresso in the AM and PM) and de-scaling every two months. It’s worked perfectly since then and we love it!

    Do you do a clear water back flush after every use ?

  • @CoffeeWiser

    The manual recommends that you do it after every use. I flush the group head and wipe (x2) after every use, and I do a clear water backflush (x5) once a week. The manual recommends 5 clear water backflush after every use, but that is not something we are willing to do every day. I hope this helps!

    Coffee Wiser Thank you 🙏 Thanks for rhe reply and your time for this information its appreciated. Another thing is that on my sisters machine a clear water flush is done on a normal non pressurised basket and the rubber that sits in the portafilter has no hole. The oracle model she has gets pressure in the back flush as the rubber has no hole in it. On my sage barista express using a normal single basket non pressurised I noticed no pressure in the pressure gauges with water leaking out the portafilter as my rubber has a hole in it. Only when I set it to clean me mode with the tablet it brings the pressure up with the cleaning tablet during the back flush with the non pressurised basket. I noticed that with the dual wall (pressurised basket) that the clear water builds up pressure too with the clean me mode enabled. The question is that I noticed many people cleaning the same model as my machine recommended using the non pressurised basket during the back flush. It you could shed some light on this Id appreciate it.
