Asides China being a sworn enemy, the capture of Taiwan would spell disaster for Japan, militarily and economically. Therefore, Japan is commiting massive resources to ensure Taiwan remains sovereign. Defense budgets are doubling, stronger ties with the United States are forming, and perhaps most importantly, an Izumo-class aircraft carrier is coming.
