BREAKING DOWN How The Indiana Fever Have WON 4 Straight Games
The Indiana Fever just won a big time game against the Atlanta Dream. Caitlin Clark played AMAZING, tallying 16 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and NaLyssa Smith all played exceptional as well. In this video, I break down what has been going well for the Indiana Fever, and what they can still improve on.

    Agree! Sides is horrible. Plays her favorites - Wheeler and Wallace - too much, and her rotations are terrible. She seems to be sabotaging Clark by not allowing those who play well with her, like Samuelson and Hull, play as many minutes as they should. And Hull is a good defender, which Sides was always stressing defense. The team still looks weak on certain fundamentals, like boxing out (at least they did tonight IMO) and setting good screens. The coach’s decision-making is not very good, and I just don’t feel like she’s very professional in what she says to the press.

    Dude, I don’t EVER comment, but your stance on Mitchell having to make teams pay for leaving CC open is so on point… good job my man, this team if they ignore the outside noise and just make the right plays can be really good with Mitchell, Boston, Smith, and then Clark running things can be special. I watched Clark do this at Iowa for four years. In the right system, Clark runs an offense like no other, and makes everybody else better. Smith and Boston are high level players who can score huge points, but Clark is the key to keeping both of them scoring consistently. That team will REALLY look good when Clark gets fully acclimated, and her teammates get used to her passing. The more the offense runs through Clark, especially if the Fever play good defense and get out in transition, the better the Fever will be.

    46% of Clark’s made 3pt shots this season have been UNASSISTED , for context (Loyd, Ionescu, Plum, Connor have only had 20-22% of their 3pt shots be made unassisted). Their teammates set them up and feed them the ball. Only 15% of Mitchell’s 3pt shot have been unassisted and zero for almost everyone else have been unassisted -meaning they are being feed open or at least setup shots for almost all of their shots (especially 3pt) while CC had to figure it out mostly herself. This discrepancy is what will keep them from being able to perform like the upper level teams as you can see they assist their PG more. CC is on an island assisting everyone to help them shine but can’t beg for an assist back. She once again had almost more assist than the rest of the team combined. Every night doesn’t have to be a 20 shot night… but She was shooting 75% from 3 in the first half and they went away from giving her the ball. People don’t show up to see her average 11 shots a game and get iced in the middle of her rhythm especially on a night when she is Hot.

    I agree, and it is so aggravating! As Carter points out, there are so many times Clark is open, but her teammates are too selfish and don’t pass to her. I wish she would be a little more selfish herself and take more shots, even if they are unassisted.

  • @oldschoolsaint

    Very astute observation. It's very frustrating to watch, particularly when they run sets for CC and the screening action for her is horrible. They need to run more sets for Clark, the screening needs to get better, and Clark needs to shoot at least 15 times a game. You got a shooter like that who has great range and a lightning quick trigger, you got to get her more shots. You don't run an equal opportunity offense with a player like that.

    She would be a manager and the leading scorer if they ran consistent sets for her. Most of the leagues top 3pt shooters have and assisted rate of around 75% (meaning of their 3pt shots made 75% of those have a teammate credited with the assist) Loyd, Plum, Ionescu, many others are around that mark. The top 10 scorers also take between 18-23 shots a night. For Clark they have her clamped down to 11-12 shots per night and only 50% of her shots for the season (from 3) have been assisted. The top teams make it a priority to get their shooters assists for high scoring shots where as the Fever does not… Or they do but only for OTHER guards. Mitchell this season has had 85% of her 3s come from assisted shots. Wallace 92% and every other player on the team have had 100% of their made 3pt shots from an assist to them. It’s really shocking when you see how much they have put her on an island vs the rest of the team.

    If CC played like Mitchell, CC would have very few turnovers... but the Fever wouldn't be doing so well. CC plays the most minutes, handles the ball the most and should have the most turnovers. Though the TO's should drop as her team mates adapt better, as AB has. And I had to research this some, but I read that Mitchell is the veteran, with many accolades, on a team that is still lookin for a higher win/loss % than the .382 in 2019. Change is necessary. Mitchell has skill, now if she can learn to play better with others.

    Kinda funny listening to your analysis. You literally described the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kelsey Mitchel needs to be more like Kate Martin. This is why the Hawkeyes were as deadly as they were, despite having a team full of players who won't be drafted in the WNBA (aside from Kate Martin, which was a surprise pick.) Defenders have to guard Clark out at the logo. And every single team is going to go after Clark. So this is where the team needs to also make themselves a threat. The Fever have been winning lately, and just looking like a better team these past few games, because they are looking more like a team. Mitchell is a phenomenal player, and I don't think I've ever seen a player as fast as she is. But damn, she needs to pass the ball a hell of a lot more. Fever seem to run this 3 guard offense, which is fine when you have good shooters. But it doesn't really work when one of those shooters isn't molding with the rest of the team.

    Running sets for CC off the ball makes sense. She doesn't have to bring the ball up every time. 12 shots a game just ain't gonna make it. You got at shooter like Clark you got to get her more shots....at least 15 a game. You're on the money with the turnovers. Clark is already settled in. She's deferring to others because she's a team first player and because she understands the need to build the trust and support of teammates. There will be a point where it becomes clear that she's the straw that stirs the drink. Look out when that happens.

    @exousia20025 күн бұрын

    @5:40 Some of these players don't know the meta-game of basketball. Sometimes 2 points or 3 points is not just 3 points. In this case, CC is not just a regular shooter, she's a Steph shooter. If you give CC a wide-open 3 and she splashes it, her shooting target becomes locked on and she can shoot harder and harder 3s even off the dribble, which will be exponentially more important in the clutch moments. So even if Mitchell can make that 2, getting CC an open 3 is more than just a 3, it increases your winning chances because it unlocks even more firepower from CC, which is worth more than just those points. And, if CC goes into bighead mode, they have to double her and change their entire defensive game plan and pick her up earlier on D, which makes it easier for the entire team to score for the rest of the game. If I am the defense, I am HAPPY to let Mitchell hit a tight contested 2 because that 2 doesn't really "unlock" more scoring potential and I don't have to change my defensive game plan. Mitchell, who, of course, is skilled, is more like a Kyrie in the sense that she can score, but people don't really double her. If she beats them, so be it. Whether she scores or not, the defensive game plan doesn't change, and she doesn't really make the team much better (then you have to factor in her overall value because like Isiah Thomas, it's tough for her on the defensive side). But if CC starts scoring those long 3s or easy drives, the Fever will get much better because of her passing, and the D will change up. Although CC is like a stick physically, she does enough on D to not be a big liability; she gets steals and timely blocks to compensate for her lack of size. I've don't think i've seen Mitchell get any blocks or contest in a way that offensive players feel uncomfortable shooting.

The last couple games it seems they are trying to get it back to her via passes/screens. Today Boston was having a battle in the paint with that Big Vet which gave her trouble getting open and scoring. Both sat out on fouls.

    Christie Sides is a terrible coach. All she needs to do is 1) allow Caitlin run the offense, or ship players out and 2) teach these 'professionals' how to set a decent screen!! I'm yelling at my TV half the time watching this team!

    Pass her back the ball after the first pass in, and set a proper screen and she will dominate. You’ll win most of your games, get your easy stats and the game will grow. What worries them though, is they know if the game grows and the money gets bigger, so does the competition. Most of them won’t be in the league in a few years as younger players work on their game. The woke angle just keeps them employed.

    I actually like when Erica Wheeler or Kelsey Mitchell bring the ball up the court. However, after they pass backcourt, I need them to pass the ball to Caitlin for her to run plays. I prefer Erica/Kelsey to bring it because so Caitlin can rest. She's getting full court press and she has to play 30-35mins. She has to do mini sprints just to get pass the half court sometimes which is tiring.

    playing wheeler and mitchell together is redundant because mitchell can do anything wheeler can do and also shoot or drive, they should never play together. it also takes away the ball from Clark's playmaking. I think Wheeler has no place in this team, she has no weapon, she can't drive or have a reliable shot. They should play wallace, hull, berger or samuelson as the fifth player to Clark, AB, Smith (or fagbenle), and Mitchell.
