I’m overjoyed for your family.🥰I have stage 4 cancer and so does my Mother. We are 50 & 71. It’s pretty much untreatable at this point for both of us. We enjoy your channel. It gives me peace. I lived in WV during my high school years down a holler on 83 acres in the late 80’s/early 90’s.

My mother, who grew up on a farm in Iowa, once told me that corn talks. She said to get into the middle of the cornfield, have a seat in the dirt, and listen to the corn “talk.” She was right. It was beautiful. I miss my mother’s stories of her life on the farm. So heartwarming.

I bet the Deer Hunter dreams at night about taking a hike into the woods and the 2 grand boys waddling along after him - proud that they can walk and follow him everywhere. I can imagine the big smile on his face. He has the best of both worlds. First he had 2 daughters and now a grandson with another on the way.

Oh I can hear that sweet little newborn cry. So sweet when they are so little their cry has such a different sound. The most precious thing. Such an amazing thing those little babies are. So much to learn for both mom and baby. So wonderful! Praise the Lord!

When my first great grandchild was born, I was astounded to see so many generations in his face. He looked like me, my mother and grandmother with our exact eye color, his mother by the shape of his face and eyes, his father by this nose and broad shoulders, and multiple great grandparents and great aunts and uncles by the reddish cast of his hair color and Irish ancestry. He is who we are and were, and it is a glorious thing to see. Again, I congratulate Katie and you and Matt, and now I eagerly await the birth of Cori's son and Ira's best friend. Much love to you all. Happy Resurrection Day. God be praised.

It was sweet hearing that newborn cry. I did think Matt looked kinda tired, though. You've had a lot of happy things happening at once. My husband said the same as Matt about being so busy after he retired. He said he'd never worked so hard. He was very active in our church, so it was true. He used to joke that he might have to go back to work to get some rest! 😄 But I think that's a blessing. Some people, and it seems more often to be men, have their whole identity so tied to their job that when they retire, they don't know what to do with themselves. They're lost. Matt won't have that problem. Watching your videos is the next best thing to being with family. Don't get me wrong; I have friends and we keep in touch online. But sitting at the table or being in the garden with y'all is like visiting. Because you post often, it reminds me of the type of friendship where your friend calls and asks, so how did that recipe for beans turn out? That everyday sort of thing. And I've come to truly care about y'all. Regarding corn pests, I've used that cassette tape trick to keep birds out of fruit trees, but crows are too smart. Though ribbons of mylar work a bit better because it's reflective. Don't you have core borer or corn earworm there? I had trouble with corn earworm. But I'm betting raccoons will be the biggest threat to the corn. They're so smart, almost nothing but dogs will keep them away. Though I did manage to keep them off my watermelons by coating them with ground black pepper when they got near to ripe and sprinkling it liberally around the leaves, too. But I don't know if that would be feasible where it rains as much as it does where you are.

Flowers in the garden draw pollinators, so if you want a good crop plant lots of flowers. Marigolds do repel bugs, but I plant the mini French Marigolds. I saw little Ira ! You will be amazed by how much he will grow and change by the time he's a year old. My great-grandson is 13 months old and he can walk, feed himself, and he's trying his best to talk. I adore that little boy and everything he does is so cute to me. Oh, you're going to have so much fun with your new grandson! Enjoy every moment, and you're so blessed to soon have two - double the love and fun !

I ‘ve been a subscriber for about 2 years now. My father was born in Elizabeth city NC. Back in the late 40s. Then migrated north to Maryland in the late 50s. (Searching for financial security about 20 miles outside of DC) your channel brings memories of stories told by my grandparents. And the meals bring me back to big Sunday suppers made by grandma from scratch. My father bought a cabin in the mountains in west VA. 4 years ago . Your channel has inspired me. Life outside of Washington is 1) expensive 2) so fast pace, a lot of people live to work not work to live. Not because we want to it’s all about keeping your head above water. Your channel shows what’s is for the most part missing here. Enjoying family and a sense of community and living off of traditions past down. We get a small sense of that at our cabin. Please keep your traditions coming. And lastly congratulations to you & Matt on becoming grandparents!! And to Katie on becoming a mom. And also to Korrie & Austin on there journey of becoming parents. As a father of 3 boys ages ranging from 19-26 Time goes fast! Don’t let life steal your time to make memories with your kids.

The best part about evening, for me, is when supper has been eaten and the kitchen is clean. On the subject of grand babies. My husband and I were at the hospital when our first grand child was born. When the nurse wheeled him out for us to have our first look at the precious boy, we looked at him and then at each other. And we said we couldn’t have known how in love we would be with this little bit of a boy! We knew we would love him, already did really. Seeing him brought us an amazing depth of love. And that feeling has been there with each one!

So excited for y’all to enjoy these little blessings. The joy of grandchildren is hard to explain until you experience it. Watching your child welcome her own child and gain experience as a parent is part of the joy too. Take lots of pictures that will make you smile in the years to come. I bet Granny is tickled about Ira’s arrival too. Continued prayers for Granny and that Corie will have a safe delivery and healthy baby boy too. God bless.

Watching Matt make the gravy.... one of my favourite things about taking cooking classes was learning that the way I'd been watching my mother make gravy all my life, with flour in the meat grease, is actually making a roux, one of the classic bases of some of the mother sauces of French cuisine. If you can make pan gravy, you can make a bechamel.

Many young people don’t have good qualities. But have to hand it to Matt and Austin new generation of good people. My sons learned from my Dad. True old souls. If there is an old timer around you will find my boys talking with them for hours. Makes me feel good they have that personality of knowing the older generations does have something important to say. Katie’s son will be blessed to have Matt and Austin to show him how true men should be and how to treat people with respect.

Im so happy for your sweet family. Grandkids do hold a special place in your heart . Enjoy every minute of it because they grow so fast. We have two and thry sre 15 and 13. Seems like just yesterday they were born. Tipper, I hate to spray anything on our plants but we had tator bugs and squash bugs so bad last year. My husband sprayed them with spinosad. It is supposed to be organic and it did kill them.

I have had the misfortune of being stung by a “pack saddle” and it is a terrible pain. Made me feel sick all over. We have bought those reflective strings at Lowes’s before and they work pretty well. Our neighbor tries all kinds of things like playing music and putting the owls that have red eyes that light up in his garden. He told my husband that he didn’t have any trouble with the deer last year and my husband said “no, they were too busy eating mine up” 😂. My cousin for the last 2 years had raised some of the best corn and he always raises extra. He always blesses us with several big feed sacks full and we have really enjoyed it this past winter. I know you all are so tickled with your new grandson. God bless you all.
