I often notice how much he loves her. It’s so obvious. So nice to see. I had a wonderful husband like that and he’s been gone 10 years now. I was 45 at the time. I tell ya, you sure do notice little things. I often sit and eat the salad bar at the grocery store here and you can sit and look out the window and enjoy your lunch. I often notice older folks still holding hands, as they walk in… it’s nice to see.

I love all your vlogs, but I especially loved this one. It was really fun to learn more about the family. Heck, I feel like part of your family anyway. I think we kin from back in time anyhow. I think you and Matt are so cute and sweet together. I’ll take more of these vlogs any day, and I hope you write a book. I’ll grab it as soon as it’s published. ❤

I turned 70 this year and guess what? I feel 40 or so....I enjoy life, laugh daily, love the Lord and truly look forward to each day. Age isn't the issue. Loving the Lord and enjoying each day keeps a heart and mind young. Look forward to aging...it's a blessing many don't get to enjoy:)

Amen ma’am I’m 60 years old this month and my parents died in their mid and late 60’s and I think they were young and had a lot more life to live until they got sick but I thank the Lord for allowing me to have them as long as I did . And every year that I get older I thank God for every single day of my life no matter how many years, months or days that he gives me . I hear some people complain about the gray in their hair but I always tell them that I thank God for every one of mine .

Gratitude can be a core strength for all of us. We are all so blessed - to have a roof over our heads, a bed, electricity and food. God has blessed us so much. What is wrong with eating cucumber sandwiches? They are delicious as are tomato sandwiches. Like Tipper, I, too, am mostly Scottish. Also Irish and English. Eating cucumber sandwiches is not a class thing, but a cultural thing. My family also always stuffed a chicken or turkey with Scottish dressing made with kidney suet, oats and onions.

You both should try southern cucumber sandwiches. Recipe: Slice a ripe but young cucumber, and slice some onion. Place both in a mason jar with salt and pepper to taste. Cover with white, distilled vinegar. Leave overnight in refrigerator. When you’re ready for a sandwich, butter two slices of your favorite whole grain bread. Line with sliced cucumbers and onions from the mason jar. Eat as is or top with any other fresh garden veggie (aka tomatoes, Matt). Every time I eat sliced cucumbers, I think of my mother and her southern cucumber sandwiches. (And we’re all the same “level”) Thank you both for the glimpses of beautiful Appalachia. Blessings.

The neighborhood where my dad’s side of the family lived was mostly filled with relatives. It was a wonderful way to grow up. Most of relatives are gone now, but the streets are still named after them. There was always something going on. Aunt Mildred let us make homemade pie crust and play dough. Uncle Oscar taught me all the names of the trees, flowers and birds. Aunt Lila made cookies and told stories. Uncle Jerry fixed clocks and Uncle Britt played us music. Grandma babysat us and taught me to sew and do embroidery. There was usually someone to amuse you or cousins to play games with you. Thank you sharing your lives with us. You feel like neighbors just next door.🤣. I wish the world could just slow down and talk like this together. Maybe we would understand each other better and love each other more. God bless.❤️

I love living in the mountains of North Carolina and can't imagine living anywhere else. But I too, love going the ocean. It is amazing how calming (and healing) the crashing of the waves can be. I always think of the verse Isaiah 40:12 “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?"

As a tree worker on break one day, I helped an 86-year-old lady with a scooter and an ankle brace take brown bags of lawn clutter to the curb. Long story short, she said she was doing the work that we were doing that day. She explained to me two weeks previous, that she got on a step ladder and cut her neighbors low hanging branch off for her with a f%£#¥£g chainsaw. 86 years old. Never use a chainsaw to cut the low hanging limbs, as a former tree worker, (never got qualified to be an arborist) that is a super dangerous!!!!!

My husband, of over 40 years, passed away a few weeks before this past Thanksgiving. He used to tease 🎉me about some of my extended family members. You and Matt could be my children since my girls are 56 and 52 now. I’m almost 75 and have no idea where all the years went. I’m just now starting to realize and feel I’m getting older. My hair is very gray now. What happened? Many of my friends have let their gray show as well and we’re all so pretty! During lockdown salon hair color became impossible. I felt so free not having to get my roots done!! It’s wonderful!

On being content - this single quote caused a paradigm shift for me that has helped reduce my life-long anxiety enormously. So I hope it helps someone else: " If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present. " Lao Tzu. 💖

You are such a humble couple. You are far from being boring. The simple life in the country is the best life there is. I agree with you Matt. Not getting on a plane. If you come to the beach in NC, look me up. I'm on bogue banks south of Cape Lookout. There are 7 lighthouses here. Some you can climb to the top. Cucumber sandwiches are wonderful. Can't wait for part two

I could listen to you two for hours. You just needed your popsicles. The wind sounded so soothing, I would love to have some of that up here in PA - it has been so hot and humid here. I just found out that most of Pennsylvania is considered to be in the Appalachian Cultural Region - my home is at the foot of the range, on a beautiful ridge. That explains how a lot of the things you talk about are familiar to me. I’m glad you mentioned gratitude - with the world the way it is now, gratitude and faith are the most important tools to live a contented life. Sending you all love and blessings❤

Speaking of Matt's finger... we have a trait on my mom's side of the family that the pinky finger is much shorter and tapered on the end of it than the other hand. Usually the left pinky finger. We call it the "Curnew" finger because the first known relative that had it was a "Curnew". Thank you for answering everyone's questions! You all are wonderful. You feel like family to me. 💜

I never once in all this time noticed Matt's finger. I've thought he has hands of hard working man tho. The smile of a little boy about to get in trouble because he can't contain the mischievousness spilling out if him. Tipper, you looked so pretty enjoying the wind with your fellow on glorious day. I liked this talk lot. Sweet. P.S. I am always thankful for the small but hugely precious things in life too. Forever grateful.

A friend of mine has twins, a boy and a girl. Only mom and dad know who was born first. They have no plans of ever telling them. The twins are 11 now. It is interesting how people always ask who was born first. The twins promptly answer they don’t know. Their mom and dad decided not to tell them so that neither one holds it over the other and they also hoped it wouldn’t effect any birth order stereotypes. I had never met anyone who took this approach.

Really enjoyed this Q & A, Tipper. Matt's such a mess, and I love that he's gotten more and more comfortable with the camera, because he's got a lot to contribute. I was impressed once again with the good-humored give-and-take of your relationship. It's obvious you love and respect one another. I hope younger folks watch your chats and take heed. BTW, I'm going to blame it on Matt that when I went to the store recently determined not to get any junk food, out of habit I looked at the Little Debbie's display. There were those peanut butter cookies he raved about awhile back. I just had to try them, and although good with a glass of milk, they were extremely sweet. Learned later that one cookie was supposed to be three servings, lol! God bless you both for the positive, common sense values you express on your channel. You're such a joy to spend time with.
