Break Free: How to Stop Living in the Shadow of Your Past | Eckhart Tolle

If we came across some sitting on a bench ranting to themselves about everything that is wrong in the world and how awful everything is, we'd call them a troubled person with a troubled mind. If we came across someone sitting on a bench openly showing their appreciation of all that is wonderful in the world, we'd call them enlightened beings with enlightened minds . 99.9 % of our peace and happiness, and suffering and unhappiness is a direct result of the stories we tell ourselves 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I saw clearly, as he spoke, how the past is all in our minds, as memory, and what could happen in the future is also merely a construct of the mind. We are always only truly in "now." And this is presence.

God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness to us all. Even as we are faced with our toughest battles God is there for us. That’s why I keep faith as I struggle to provide for my children. I’m a single mom. Both of my sons are special needs. I started homeschooling them so my hours to work are limited. As I struggle to buy groceries and as I struggle to pay my rent I know God is with me. He’s the only reason why I made it this far. Lord continue to keep us safe.

"When we cannot find a way of telling our story, our story tells us." (Stephen Grosz). Our thoughts, especially subconscious thoughts, tell stories that we believe to be true; yet thoughts are just thoughts. The mind does an amazing job creating imaginary problems that fit the old thought narrative (the old story). Eckhart is wonderful in teaching mindfulness, to still those waters, to take the power away from the old narrative. I also like simple mindfulness workbooks like the one called 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety by Harper Daniels. We cannot out think our minds. Observation and compassion for self.

Thank you Eckhart for the wisdom shared. Social media has actually hired psychologists to engineer an addictive experience to keep users on their platforms, using the reward part of the brain and the withdrawal symptoms are hard for most people to ignore. The way you speak about these things puts it into a perspective that is so freeing, and quite amusing. We don't have to participate in it despite the pressure, and at the end of the day it really is a silly thing to give so much importance to. Thank you!

Thank you dear sweet Eckhart ❤ After a year of meditation I'm conscious most of my day now but I still fall unconscious when angry people or stressful situations arise. But I'm catching myself during the unconsciousness allowing it to subside quickly. There's three levels of enlightenment/awareness. 1) The lowest (but still an enlightenment!) After the fact. After the unconsciousness event one becomes aware and sees the unconsciousness and understands. Example; a year after I dated that same co-dependant person and broke up, I became conscious/aware that I had a need for this co dependant relationship. 2) Second level; Becoming conscious during the event. I started going out with the same type of person again but catch it WHILE we're dating .. but not too far down the road and back out. And the highest level of enlightenment; 3) BEFORE I go out with the next co-dependant person, I have a realization that I'm drawn towards this person on an unconsciousness level but I don't have to go down this road again. As soon as we meet, I don't even go on a date. This could be with anything, the same job, any problems etc. Arguing with anyone is a great test. 1) Right after we argued I became conscious and pondered this unconsciousness. 2) DURING the argument I stop and become the Aware Observer (conscious) and just stop arguing and 3) Before I start arguing I stay conscious and avoid the argument all together. I'm not at this highest level yet but somewhere in the middle. Practicing mediation daily is the key. (Who's running the show? The unconscious ego or the soul?) How's your journey going? Have a great day. Namstate 🎶

But it could be disappointing when those things we plan for the future don't work out. So by living in the present moment without future expectations we can never be disappointed. If my plans work out, brilliant, but if they don't, well atleast I'm happy with every moment that I spent living in the now. It's about having a certain mindset towards life I believe.

Thank you dear sweet Eckhart ❤ Its all an illusion and As long as we live in our minds/egos it's freaking unbearable! Trapped in the illusion of consent thoughts ... But I've found some truths i can try to share. I try to separate myself from thoughts by simply saying, "That's a thoughts .. Look at all those thoughts etc" Not believing every thought. To try to simply be the observer of each thought. I try to meditate 5 min each morning and just focus on my breathing and quickly thoughts will start, so I'll gently bring it back to my breathing. The MOMENT I realize I'm back to thoughts I'm the observer! There's the real "me", the observer, my soul and separate me, the crazy, upset, unhappy ego! But unfortunately The suffering is necessary to motivate us to go through this process. Even though this 5 min is a quick easy way to get out of the unhappy ego/mind and to find some freaking peace in this crazy world, it's still the hardest thing I've ever done! You've got to want it bad and realize the ego is a frighten child that doesn't want to let go ... To let go and let this shift in consciousness happen ... But its exciting that so many are watching this video to ask and learn of a deeper meaning and it's even more exciting because it's happening all over the world! (Eckhart Tolle is A true living spiritual master!)

I’ve realized, in the last month or so, that I’m kind of addicted to the sensation of drowsiness and falling asleep. I have always had difficulty with sleeping through an entire night, at least in my adulthood. For about 30+ years I wake every couple of hours. I think the most I sleep is about 4 hours. I think it’s likely that this is part of why my health is poorly. Maybe I like the sensation of falling asleep so much that I keep waking in order to to do it over and over. That can’t be healthy. Oh well, yet another thing to be aware of and work on.

I have the same and for me its the good sensation that you feel by "almost falling asleep", a state of beeing still away but "so far away from the world and its problems". I would say that you have "so many Browser Tabs open" in your daily life and it just feels good to have a moment without the need to worry. But thats exactly what meditation is about. Dont feel bad for "drowsiness", thats sometimes a time of regeneration. Try to implement more moments of "peace" into your life, especially when you are awake. Often even small moments are very beneficial. Try to exercise more, best case do a long peaceful walk trough nature, exercise a little bit and then fall asleep to light music.

The sleep in the morning after you decide not to get up for school is the beat sleep in the world to me. I dont like the going to bed sleep although I do go to bed once I've exhausted every excuse and the dishes are the only thing left to do and bed is better than dishes...but I lie there untill something puts me to sleep. Then the sleep I have in the morning after I have opened my eyes at the alarm and decided its far too cold and busy out there...oh my. All my life apart from maybe when I was very little I have liked this sleep. Lack of vitmin d and magnesium severely depleted for me for a time. After trauma made me unable to sleep a full night. I went to a Chinese herbal doctor md and whatever she gave me herbal tea stuff I was sleeping 8 hours in 2 days of drinking the tea after years of a few hours and then a few more. I cant live on just a few. I have to have that second sleep. Now I can sleep fully for 8 hours or 6 and then another 1 or 2 to avoid the horrible morning. 😂 so maybe try vitiman d but also take magnesium with it because it depletes magnesium. I'm pretty sure I've had dd deficiency my whole life.

As I sit with Eckhart each day, I find that I struggle with the life long habit of going below consciousness by falling asleep. I think that this has been my way of, throughout my life of finding peace. I can become still and conscious, by being in nature, by being with children , and by listening to and playing music and by listening to others in a compassionate way, But when I sit with Eckhart, I feel the deep pull of wanting to sleep. Is this because I am trying, rather than just being? Just thinking out loud and working this out!! 🧐

Set your intention to not fall asleep, and take a position of seniority over your mind - helps me always. Hth

Falling asleep is not bad at all, it means that you are really relaxed, try to listen to Eckharts voice while walking trough nature, or do a walking meditation :)

How to end fear. To end anything you must get to the root of it. The question one asks is, what is the connection to fear and psychology time? Are you and fear something separate than each other or are you fear? To get to the root, takes all your energy and attention, then you can see things clearly for what they are, not what you think they are.

Thank you so much for your videos. I just can't tell how helpful they have been to me since about three years. I wonder if Eckhart Tolle has ever said anything about people who, following an accident for example, suffer from amnesia. Given that they lose touch with (or, in a way, liberated from) their past, can this be a factor of awakening?

The body lives from the past though. It reacts to triggers and old traumas. Trauma sure is an interesting way to stop one from truly awakening
