Public transport gives you time to enjoy the scenery and architecture, whereas driving requires full concentration on the road ahead with no time to look around.

Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Riding a tram is a peculiar experience, rather like a train on a section of track shared with road users, except trams are far more agile than a trains, they accelerate and stop more rapidly.

Glad you enjoyed it, driving the old tram looked very different to driving the new ones, no seat for our driver.

I don't think he minds his legs aching as long as he is at the controls of this delightful tram.

Hello Tim, this time we already know where the ride takes us and we get more of mood on street as well as in tram. Compared with Germany's cities both seems to be very relaxed. - Heinz

Does the car have only the hand brake, no air brakes?

Hi, I checked the internet for more information, with little success. I could not hear a compressor, which suggests no air brakes, but I could be wrong. The tram appeared to slow when the driver reduced speed suggesting the electric motor was acting as a brake, when the tram stopped the driver sometimes used the hand brake, it certainly looked hard work to drive.

Yeah, the reason I asked was that he appeared to have his right hand on the hand brake the whole time, and I didn't see any air brake stand, which would normally be next to the controller. From the way he was using the controller, it sounded like a simple power controller (you usually step up the power gradually, but move rapidly to the off position to avoid arcing), but it could have had some dynamic braking points beyond the off position.

I think the brake handle's right in front of the driver (you can see it at 12:12). The large wheel is the handbrake.

Yes, I see it now. I guess he's just using the hand brake control as a hand rest while the car's moving. I used to volunteer at a trolley museum, and was trained to rest one hand on the brake to be ready for an unexpected stop. Good eye!

Looks rather hot for the driver with a lot of glass and only two small windows you can open. That looks rather tight at 5:35, typical van.

Just about all the signs on the stores are in English.

It does seen strange to use English for the signage in a country where English is not widely spoken.
