The Red Tram along The Danube | Bratislava Tram🚋🇸🇰 (Bratislavská električka) | Urban Transport #8

The tram network of Bratislava might not be Europe's largest or famous networks, but it does a good job in carrying passengers within the Slovak capital. With the nice "Old Bridge" the tram crosses the Danube to the district of Petržalka. Operated by multiple types of trams from Czech origin, such as the well-known Tatras, it has an important role in public transport in the Slovak capital.
This video is the 8th episode of the series Transport, which describes various public transport networks (for now in Europe).

*Sidenote 1: Line 7 was not active on the days of filming. Also the Tatra T6A5s and T3s were enjoying summer holidays at the depots while I was in Bratislava. :)
*Sidenote 2: Line Network as of January 2023.
*Sidenote 3: Museum trams are not included in the current fleet calculations.

Interesting and informative. I only want to add that I am surprised the new line to Petrzalka district is not a fast tram (like some lines here in Poland in Poznań, Kraków and Szczecin) but has some level crossings. On the other hand this capital is a rather small one and maybe it simply doesn't need it.

There was a project without the level crossings, but in the end project with level crossings won, because it was cheaper and quicker to build.

Appriciate pronaunciation and those clips are so good. I love those low-floor trams (Škoda 29T or 30T). Oh.. I almost forgot "no way, Slovakia got mentioned?!"

Thank you! Still nice to see my older videos getting views😁 I’ll try to come back to Bratislava in 2025 for the trolleybuses and check out the new trams and hopefully the mentioned extension🇸🇰

An important thing on this tram system is that some years ago it was much better and nicely thought out with 9 lines: 1 Main Station - Petržalka 2 Main Station - Nové Mesto/Zlaté Piesky 3 Rača - Petržalka 4 Dúbravka - Zlaté Piesky 5 Dúbravka - Rača 6 Karlova Ves - Centrum 7 Centrum - Rača 8 Centrum - Astronomická 9 Karlova Ves - Astronomická In my opinion 2016-2018 was the best version of the Bratislava Transit and they shouldn't have done anything like this to the trams nor the trolley buses. Fun fact: there were ~13 tram lines 16 years ago and this number has only been decreasing from there, they might even remove line 7 next.

Luckily they have decided to buy new trams and build the extension. It does not appear as if it is going to disappear any time soon. Bratislava’s population grows as well, so it makes sense to keep it around and build upon it. The main thing is, as long as the decrease in lines results in higher frequencies on the other lines, it may be okay. However, I think there is much more potential. Hlavná stanica needs more than just 1 regular line and a peak hour line.

@@realdronthego Yeah, hopefully and probably this system has a bright future, Bratislava MHD is not bad that's for sure.

yeah, there were more lines because they ran from each branch to almost all other branches, but they didn't run too frequently. so they changed up the lines so that each branch only directly connects to just one or two other branches and you can still to anywhere on the tram network with just one interchange, but the trams run way faster

Looking at the map there seems to be some huge gaps in some areas. They should add two more routes, then it will be perfect

Regarding the trams, yes, there are quite some zones without trams… However, Bratislava also has quite a trolleybus system, which also covers parts. Sometime in the future (I do not know when), I will do a video about the trolleybus network too 😁

Could you one day do a video about high floor trams being modernized to have a accessible entry? Examples of these are Tram 2000 in Zurich, many modernized Tatra Trams with added low-floor sections in Prague, Cottbus, Basel etc.?

Perhaps :) I am thinking about some more vehicle-focused videos too in the future. But I will need to get a bit more footage from several cities first.
