Driver’s Eye View (Czech Republic) - Praha-Dejvice to Lužná u Rakovníka - 4K

In this video we visit one of Prague's smaller stations where we were due to catch a train to Lužná u Rakovníka to visit the museum and heritage locomotive depot before joining a steam hauled charter. The friendly driver was intrigued to find that most of his passengers were visiting the Lužná museum on a day when it would normally be closed. He gave me permission to mount a camera in the driving cab so that we can all enjoy the view only he normally gets to see. Although the route is mainly single track, there are frequent passing loops allowing a surprisingly frequent service. Our diesel multiple unit train passed though pleasant countryside to reach Lužná. Please join me on this unexpected driver's eye view along a line rarely featured on KZread.

Hello Hans, I've been very busy since I returned from Italy, causing me to be late with replies. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, after a week away from my computer enjoying the company of my travelling companions and one or two beers in the evenings, I'm home to reality. The grass needs cutting, the house needs painting and I've got a mountain of Emails to answer. I'm going to need a few beers this evening. Cheers🍺🍺Tim GB.

Thanks for that nice trip Tim. For those who are interested, there are lots of Czech cab rides available on KZread. For example, Merond22 (with many now disused routes) and Pohled z vlaku. Also there is a monthly vlog Pozor Vlak, which is given english sub-titles about a week after release. Czech has a good mix of slow and fast routes, and is spending a lot of money upgrading routes and stations (eg Kladno in this video).

Hello, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the additional information about the availability of cab ride videos, I have just checked out www.youtube.com/@Merond22 and pohledzvlaku.cz/ they both post some really good videos. I love visiting both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, it's good to see money being invested in the railways, although it is always sad when a line closes.

Hello Graham, I'm glad you liked it, I really enjoyed the tour, it was very successful, giving me plenty of excellent material to share over the coming months. I spoke to Stuart who I believe you bumped into shortly after leaving the airport, he told me about his awesome upcoming adventures, I'll be joining him for one of the tours, it looked too good to miss. I hope we meet up again. Best wishes. Tim.

@@MikeRailHello Mike, I'm sorry to hear that it’s been a while since your last outing. I didn't get to travel on one of the Te Huia sets on my last visit, I have seen videos of the Te Huia sets, I believe you sent me the links and they looked smart on the inside as well as on the outside. I read somewhere that the new trains will be Hybrids capable of running on 1500 volts Dc, 25 kv and diesel. This combination is common across Europe, many of the UK's trains are hybrid making use of the 25 kv OHLE or 750 volt DC conductor rail where it is available and completing their journey on diesel. We will shortly have electric trains capable of completing the journey on battery power a system already used on some tram routes in Europe. Maybe one day the Northern Explorer will be a hybrid unit. Take care. Tim.

@@Timsvideochannel1 Tnx again for the info Tim. Yes there has been lots of discussion and planning roughly in that direction for many of the urban extensions etc but with our recent change in govt I would not be surprised if that all gets shelved for years again. We dont seem to every have multi lateral plans that eventuate mate...... 🥲 But lets live in hope 🤔

@@MikeRail As a regular tourist to New Zealand, I'd love to see KiwiRail introduce tourist trains, they don't have to run daily to be available for rail based holidays, something that is almost uniquely not available in New Zealand. We can only live in hope, the rails are in place, sadly the will to run trains to more destinations isn't 🤔.

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess it's a version of the UK's dead man's handle/pedal. If the driver doesn't respond to the sound, the train will stop automatically. I could be wrong.

The Czech Republic, along with Slovakia are two of Europe’s hidden gems, both countries are beautiful, the people are friendly and they didn't close their rural railways as happened in the UK as recommended in the Beeching report. Travelling by rail in both countries is like slipping back in time to the 50's and 60's in the UK. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Hello Anna, it was nice to have your company on this tour. I spent a week or so touring the Czech Republic and Bremen in Germany, it was a very successful tour. Last week I was in Italy, I didn't travel much by train but the scenery was beautiful. Next month I'm off to South Africa for some steam action, it should be a lot of fun. I've also got to find time to mow the lawn, paint the house and go to work. That free travel in NZ is well worth having; does it cover the TranzAlpine and Coastal Pacific? and is that the Clint Eastwood "Good the Bad and the Ugly"? Best wishes. Tim.
